Special teams sucked bawwlllllls last year. They got a couple of returners, one helps on defense and the other helps on offense as well.
Offense was horrible until JC emerged. They got a OG to help the line, a tight end and a back/returner/slot and an OC as well.
Did they solve all the problems? No. Too many problems for 1 offseason to fix. Steps in the right direction, I think so.
A far as Claussen goes, they had multiple chances to get him and didn't. I don't think it's an indictment of Pioli as much as CW saying he wasn't worth as much as some of the experts here seem to think he was. I'll go with CW on this one.

QFT

There are just too many holes on this team to think that you were going to fix all of them. I have my doubts about some of the pics, but I do think the team got significantly better. We went in the to draft needing (in no particular order): WR, TE, OG, OT, NT, ILB, OLB, PR/KR, S, + bodies for special teams roles.

I'm hopeful that we now have long term fills at S, TE, KR/PR & OG.

NT: Ron Edwards is serviceable and maybe Shaun Smith can be serviceable in the rotation.

ILB: hopeful DJ can take this over and be a force here, but next to him?

OLB: Hali is a stud, but after that the drop is steep. Maybe Sheffield will surprise or Studebaker will have a miraculous offseason.

OT: eek!

WR: Chambers & Bowe, + McCluster in the slot. Not that good, but should be serviceable.

Pickup a serviceable RT and ILB in free agency (or have a miracle offseason improvement), and this team is maybe all the way up to average. Unfortunately Weigmann, Waters, Edwards, Chambers are all getting long in the tooth and shouldn't be counted on to man their spots for long.

d'oh! I momentarily fogot about Lilja signing, so OG wasn't as big a need as I thought.

But I don't want to get caught up in that misery of constantly thinking about it. Id like to shift my thoughts and focus more towards the overall team. Overall as a team I think the Chiefs definately improved. Im coming to accept the reality that not all of our holes are going to be addressed in one night. But the players they drafted are going to contribute and help this team in some form or fashion. Which is always a good thing.

I think the Chiefs just got a lot faster as a team, more mature by adding high charactered guys. And to top it off, the guys they've added have playmaking ability and we all know this team lacked playmakers from the very start. I like what they did in drafting guys out of the SEC. That's where good talent lies and it's just good to see them do something different from the past. Pioli seems to emphasize a lot on character which is great. Championship teams have tons of those guys and obviously we needed more. But it will benefit the team in a way where I thought they could use a change in culture there. Love the fact he hired Crennel and Weis, and some solid assistants to go along with that. We have a lot of guys on this team right now that have underachieved and not lived up to expectations yet. I think good coaching will be the cause for better player development. I consider that just as important as drafting.

*It's obvious Scott Pioli has a plan in place. It's a solid one and Im glad he is sticking with it.

I'll root for that.

we shall see.......there is still the Cassel thing in question. He chose not to create a controversy with 2 multiple chances to pick Clausen. Either Clausen isnt that good or Clausen is..........Pioli wasn't going to risk that so he could admit to another mistake.
I hope I am dead wrong about Cassel.

Here are my thoughts, Pioli shit the bed yet again. He gets no credit for drafting Berry though.

Of course, I get a lot of compliments on it. But, I also get the unfortunate few that wish to have it removed.

The Chiefs draft is a bit of a gamble. If McCluster can truly transition all of his ability into the slot, it will be a solid pick. He could also get some carries in different situations as well. Is Tate, etc a better more natural fit??

I love Javier Arenas. He solves the return issue and he is an instant upgrade at nickel. Anyone that has watched Brandon Carr or Maurice Leggett can feel good about our CB situation.

**** you. nowhere have I ever said I'm going to root for another franchise.

let me tell you a little story. my great grandfather was louis gier, the guy who ran the chevrolet plant in kansas city during the 40's through the early 70's (when he retired/the plant closed down). he was one of a group of guys who was on the team that recruited lamar hunt to move the chiefs to kansas city. my dad, before he was ten years old, had sat in the owner's box because of who his grandpa was in relation to the chiefs. the chiefs are in my ****ing blood, asshole. I was a chiefs fan from the second I first made congnizant thoughts (which I'm not sure you can do in the first place, but that's another matter entirely). nowhere have I EVER said I'm anywhere close to packing up shop and leaving.

the issue is this: when you care for a team as passionately as I do (and a lot of the other 'negative' people), it's bound to stir up strong emotions. you remember the playoff loss to the colts in 1995? I literally ****ing cried. I was twelve years old. I was down for months after that. the 1997 loss to the cheating scum of mile high? I didn't leave my bedroom other than for meals and school for a month straight. the chiefs have given me extreme highs and extreme lows.

up to this point, they've given me everything except that ultimate of sports payoffs: a super bowl victory. in my 23 years of fandom, we've won exactly three playoff games and advanced to the championship game exactly once. is it too much to ask for a competitive team? that's the issue here: while I appreciate that there are 100 ways to skin a cat, I'd like to see results. I don't see that happening with ****ing cassel. I'll eat my words faster than you could imagine if he turns into anything worth a damn. ****, I've wanted a franchise qb in the worst way since montana retired. I've pined for, at different times, brady quinn, byron leftwich, joey harrington, jimmy clausen, matt stafford, mark sanchez and even david ****ing klingler.

the point I'm making, I guess, is **** you. sports fans aren't ****ing robots (although 'true fans' seem to be, which you apparently are a member of). they're allowed to question the leadership. ****, when you've not won a super bowl in 40 years, how could you NOT be ****ing pissed at this team?

so go ahead, drone, keep going along with the party line. I'm allowed to be as pissed as I want to--I've put my time in. it's about ****ing time they pay me back for all the shit I've gone through as a chiefs fan over the years (****, I'll take a playoff win. that's all I ask anymore).

and let's not get it twisted: my main message? **** YOU, ASSHOLE.

You sure are slinging the asterisks.... I think you should wash your keyboard with soap. :shake:

I guess noone in the front office noticed that a RB from Clevland put up 300 yards on us last year.

One thing to consider is Dorsey and Jackson will be more matured this year AND Crennel will make a world of difference. Crennell will get the most out of Derrick Johnson. We now have a play making secondary. Our D fence will make great strides this year.
