Not that I care about the PS3/360 battle that goes on, but I would think that a system (and I'm sure PS3 does it as well) that regularly bans people that cheat or mod systems and generally **** shit up for everyone else playing would be a reason to go with a system....unless you are planning on being one of those guys.

Doesn't sound like all that stuff is modded systems. Sure, some of it appears to be - but the gamescore offline thing is pretty benign and can be done on accident.

Ultimately there seems to be a hell of a lot of trapdoors placed throughout XBOX Live that I don't feel inclined to deal with. PSIII has always had a far more user friendly online interface anyway.

This just kinda puts that fact in print.

M$ normally investigates these things pretty thoroughly and they make sure they are right if they reset a gamerscore.

I'm going to side with Xbox on this one, the kid probably cheated.

I'd venture to guess that if you looked up Xbox 360's TOS & PS3's TOS you'd find that they are similarly worded and protect against the same things. I'd also guess that PS3 has a similar forum dedicated to people that have been banned from the network, or gamertags banned, etc.

I'm not saying Xbox Live/Microsoft are 100% correct all the time, but I'd venture they are more correct than wrong. But I can tell you that when all the MW2 hacks were out, them banning those dipshits didn't fix the entire problem, but it made a difference.

I like my 360. But I'd have no problems owning a PS3 as well. There are some games that I'd love to play on the system, but I just don't have the money to get one....which I'm sure I will at one point.

Count me as highly skeptical of anyone who claims that they were incorrectly labelled a cheater. I'm sure mistakes could be possible, but they really do try to make sure you cheated before resetting, because someone who is wronged would obviously flip the hell out and go to another console.

BANNED AND NO REASON FOR IT! TELL ME THIS IS A BAD JOKE

To Whom It May Concern, I have recently been banned from Xbox live. Your message informed me that I would receive an email explaining why I was banned but I have yet to see anything come through. I have not been on for over a week and I guess my old email address has long since expired thus I was never informed on this permanent banning you have given me. Please explain why my account under luvz2splloo0gee has been suspended until 12/31/9999. I would be willing to change my name to something different if thats what it comes down to. Thank you
lol

How the hell would you get online-only achievements when you're not logged in? Yeah, I'm going with Microsoft on this one. Cheaters absolutely need to be banned, and they're right to do so.

BFD...I got banned from servers all the time because they thought I was a cheater, but I wasn't.

Whatever, who effing cares?

Other then he was actually caught cheating??

Real issue should be his hygeine and his mom allowing him to play that many mature games.

Edit. Damn phone.

That's what I want to know. Can anyone put in plain English an example of this? The vagueness here and in those X-box forum posts is driving me nuts. I believe these people are probably cheating, I just want one concrete example of how they're doing it.

An example of an online achievement might be something like "Get a kill with the knife, the M60 and the RPG in one ranked multilayer match" or something like that. Obviously, it is impossible to get that achievement offline so if you somehow did get it offline, it wasn't exactly legit.

The XBL division of M$ prides themselves on banning these assholes. I wish they would just brick the damn console instead, that's the only way to teach those pussies a lesson.

They mod their Xbox so that they can get these achievements offline that there is no way to get them unless you playing online.

I saw one a week or two ago, kid went onto the forums and bitched about getting his gamerscore reset. "I didn't cheat", "I got all of my achievements fair and square", "I'm taking my money to PS3 if I don't get it fixed", blah blah blah.... Mod came on and just said "You received 765 achievements on 12/10/2010 while offline. Of those achievements, 400 of them you can only get while playing online."

I meant to ask how a legit user could possibly do that. There are 3rd party tools somebody could use to hack their account.

You can't do that legitimately.

That was my point. I was responding to a poster that said it could happen accidentally.
