Bottled-water donations will be accepted in Lot C on the east side of Arrowhead Stadium Tuesday from noon until 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

In response to the tragic tornadoes that touched down in Joplin, Mo. and Reading, Kan. this weekend, the Kansas City Chiefs will contribute $35,000 to disaster-relief efforts. Additionally, they and their media partners are teaming with the Salvation Army – Midland Division to hold a bottled-water drive at Arrowhead Stadium for individuals in Kansas City to assist victims in the tornado-ravaged areas. The Chiefs will also be accepting financial donations for Heart-to-Heart International.

Bottled-water donations will be accepted in Lot C on the east side of Arrowhead Stadium Tuesday from noon until 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Those wishing to provide donations of bottled water may use any entrance to the stadium and may learn more from Chiefs broadcast partners KCTV5, 101 The Fox KCFX and Sports Radio 810 WHB, who have joined the Chiefs in supporting this important effort.

All bottled-water donations will be distributed by the Salvation Army at their four mobile feeding kitchens stationed in Joplin. Fry-Wagner Moving and Storage is transporting all of the donated water to the Joplin area. Chiefs executives, Cheerleaders, Red Coaters and Ambassadors will be helping collect donations throughout both days.

Cash and check donations will also be accepted in Lot C during the above times. The Chiefs are partnering with Heart-to-Heart International for all monetary donations. All checks should be made payable to Heart-to-Heart International. The donated funds will be divided between the recovery efforts in Joplin and Reading.

State emergency management officials have identified bottled water and monetary donations as the best ways to assist immediately.

“The Chiefs Kingdom has been greatly affected by the tornadoes in Joplin and Reading. Our hearts and prayers go out to the people affected by these disasters,” Chiefs President Mark Donovan said. “We were informed that bottled water is the most pressing need at this point. Our hope is that our efforts will assist in meeting the immediate needs of those impacted. Our entire organization stands ready to help in the days and months ahead.”

Donation Items Accepted:

Cases of bottled water
Cash
Checks made out to Heart-to-Heart International

Fans are also encouraged to stay tuned to the Chiefs official broadcast partners who will be actively involved in promoting the relief efforts and updating viewers and listeners on how to stay involved in the recovery efforts.

KCTV5 will have a one-hour special tonight airing at 9 p.m. and will be accepting bottled-water and monetary donations Tuesday and Wednesday at its studio.
101 The Fox KCFX will broadcast live from Lot C Tuesday afternoon and during the day on Wednesday.
Sports Radio 810 WHB will broadcast live from Lot C on Tuesday afternoon and during the day on Wednesday.

Apparently the Carthage High class of 2011 threw their 11k in project grad money to charity.

As much as you can never undervalue donations, it's kind of sad in a way that the Chiefs only came up with 3x as much as a high school class. Hell, Wal-Mart's throwing in a million.

For people in Springfield, Springfield Public Schools are taking donations to Joplin throughout the week. Please see a list of specific schools participating:

If the Chiefs donated any more, it'd look bad for the owner's case against the players.

I plan on donating something myself. Just kinda mulling which organization to do it through.

ReynardMuldrake 05-24-2011 06:50 AM

BUMP for Joplin.

gblowfish 05-24-2011 10:45 AM

The company I work for will donate $1 for every order we process between now and Memorial day to Red Cross Joplin. That should net a couple hundred bucks.

Randomly saw this on Twitter from the Ozarks Food Harvest:

Quote:

FEMA has asked that we spread this message: Joplin is overwhelmed with UNSOLICITED DONATIONS & in dire need of discouraging folks from sending unsolicited donations. As emergency management professionals, we know the secondary disaster this can create & redirect valuable life-sustaining resources to sort, package, transport, warehouse & distribute items that may not meet the needs of disaster survivors.
Just reinforces the idea that there are processes in place to put donations and volunteers to work. Go through those or else you'll just muck up the system.

It's true. Go through the proper channels. The warehouses know what they need. In Tuscaloosa, we saw a lot of unsolicited donations of useless shit like used underwear and assorted shoes without matching pairs. It takes a lot of manpower to sort through those donations, oftentimes to little positive end.
