I look at this as a pairing of GM and HC. The guy in the drivers seat is Matt Cassel. I think they need to show improvement. This team needs to show it is competitive and Matt Cassel is at the center of such a showing. Next year will be the year I'd be looking for certain accomplishments.

What's funny is the reasons Laz dislikes him are unfounded.
It's usually some BS rumor he runs with.

I think they're still building. A major step back would be bad but not deadly for me concerning Haley unless his behavior is erratic on the sidelines (more than usual) and in practice/preparation. If it is and we tank I might look at someone else. It would have to be really bad this year though. I still believe he's a good man for the job and he'd really have to go insane this year for me not to bring him back at least one more time.

Unless he physically assaults a player on the sideline or something like that, Haley's not going anywhere unless Pioli starts to feel his seat getting warm.

The interesting thing about this question is how closely Haley's fate is tied to Cassel. They both came to KC at the same time. If Cassel were to become one of the best game managers in the business, we could become a consistent contender and maybe win a SB or two and Haley will be able to stay as long as he wants. If Cassel tanks to the point Pioli finally gives up on him, it seems unlikely that Haley could stick around long enough to develop and win with a new QB. Winning quickly with Stanzi or some free agent/trade veteran QB are the only options for Haley keeping his job if Cassel tanks. Geez, no wonder Haley always seems so high strung.

IF we finish below .500 I want him gone. OF course, I never wanted him here in the first place so I'm biased.

Oh, and I don't give a crap if our losses are due to Cassel being injured or not.

Who would you want, realistically, in KC?

Game managers don't win Super Bowls. I share the same opinion as Steve Young and that is the only coaches jobs that are safe in the NFL are the ones that have franchise QBs. I have thought that from the moment that I came to the conclusion that Cassel isn't a franchise QB that he would get Haley fired. A franchise QB and a well rounded team with talent around him makes the coaches job much easier. It's not that I don't like Haley it's just unfortunate for him that Cassel isn't going to cut it.

Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson are on line 1 for you

Can you name any recently? Exactly. And those teams had monster defenses. Don't kid yourself. They were the exception not the rule.

All I was saying is it's happened. Is it best to have a dominant QB? Of course. I have no doubt a game manager will win it again sometime.

There is no way Haley is gonna lose his job unless he goes off the deep end. The team will be improved to the point we will be recognized by the league as up and coming. The easy schedule from last season is not in play anymore. We will sneak up on some good teams and probably lose a game to somebody we shouldn't. The important thing is to start fast and get a head start.

I wouldn't bet on it happening anytime soon or ever again. But us teams without franchise QBs have to have something to hold on to so we throw out the Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer cripple argument.
