Jim Zorn.

Outside of Muir, who should just retire, we have a pretty good coaching staff at all positions for the most part. Get an offensive coordinator and o-line coach and we could be cooking.

The Packers QB coach, Tom Clements would be a good consideration, IMO. He already has experience in KC and has done a damn good job at getting the most out of QBs. He should definitely be on the short list of candidates.

Zorn's got that look that is just a bit too big time to be a "qb coach". I say bring him up.

I have a feeling he was brought here with that in mind.

FloridaMan88 12-19-2011 02:14 AM

Norv Turner if San Diego fires him.

BossChief 12-19-2011 03:15 AM

haha

Charlie Weis

Seriously though, Tom Clements would be a fantastic hire.

Been saying that for 3 years now.

I personally would rather see Zorn get promoted than see us get McDaniels.

me too.

Promoting Zorn and bringing Nick Sirianni up as the QB coach would be a good direction, IMO.

I'm not in love with him as a play caller, though. He was terrible in that role in Washington, but to his credit they really didnt have any talent to call effective plays with so he may be better in that role with us.

I'd be okay with Zorn. Brings a sense of continuity and I don't see Pioli/Hunt wanting to take too many chances now on new hires. One coach that really needs to go is Hoffman, the ST's coach.

TimeForWasp 12-19-2011 07:01 AM

I still like Marc Trestman though. Maybe for some position, QB coach or maybe OC.

Go slow with Romeo

It's probably not possible to overstate how much the Chiefs helped Romeo Crennel's cause by beating Green Bay yesterday. The Chiefs looked every bit the team they should have looked like all season. The way they played speaks for itself, and for Crennel's bid to become the permanent head coach. The players clearly responded to their new leader in ways that surprised everyone, perhaps even chairman Clark Hunt and general manager Scott Pioli.

But there were other things that maybe you missed that support removing the interim tag from Crennel's title. Offensive play calls were so efficient the Chiefs were getting to the line of scrimmage with 15 seconds left on the play clock. Substitutions on both sides of the ball were timely and smooth. Those are functions of the head coach, or perhaps in this case the head coach getting out of the way.

There was so much to like in there it's natural why the Chiefs don't just go ahead and hire Crennel on a permanent basis right now. That's not going to happen for at least a couple of reasons.

First, it shouldn't happen now. The Chiefs won't, and shouldn't make a decision based on one game, however good or bad. When Hunt and Pioli fired Todd Haley, they cited the Chiefs up and down play as a big reason. If the Chiefs return to the tank in next week's game against the Raiders, how would Crennel as the permanent hire look then? The Chiefs instead need to see similar things from Crennel and the players in the final two games for true validation of Crennel's impact.

Second it's not Pioli's way to make such a quick move. He's got to get this decision right. Moves made at an emotional time like this usually don't work out. He'll want to talk to a few candidates, a good move even if only to validate the eventual hiring of Crennel.

So this is going to take some. Almost certainly the Chiefs won't make a move until the season is over. It may no immediately happen after that.

But sometime in January the Chiefs will have their new guy. And if the Chiefs continue to play as they did Sunday, then and only then should it be Crennel
