I picked the first one, but I haven't ever been critical. NFL refs do a pretty good job, all things considered - anyone who needs convincing of that just needs to watch a World Cup soccer match or two for comparison.

Yea but think about it, that play had to be reviewed by the real review teams and was let thru as well

Which is one of they very strange things about that whole deal. The retired NFL ref guru in the broadcast booth that night (Austin?) said that the review guys could not review possession. This, of course, is very misleading since they review every scoring play, each of which involves possession.

However, in the statement released by the NFL the following day, they revealed that the review dudes could, in fact, review possession in that situation.

So, it's possible that the review dudes did not know what the hell to do and simply said, "Inconclusive" and sent it back to the field. Of course, if the field officials had called touchback, they would probably have done the same thing.

I'm not sure you could write a script that contained as many screw ups in one play as that one. And to top it all off, the offensive PI wasn't even in the conversation. Muff Boudain couldn't have done a worse job.

They got it wrong.

I must have missed that one. So you're saying that it shouldn't have been overturned? Was the player touched down?

Correct. It was a TD. The ball didn't touch the ground. If it did, you couldn't see it.

I can't find video of it.

No problem. My CD should be here any day so I can get caught up.

Thanks for the information, though.

I kinda wish this had dragged out longer, as I revel in the chaos. It definitely wasn't a good product to watch, but I'm used to watching a garbage product on Sundays already, what's a little more incompetence going to hurt?

I thought the MNF thing was pretty funny.. during the review one of them was probably like probably like "look... do you want to leave this stadium getting your dick sucked and going to get lapdances and eat a nice complimentary steak, or getting beer and piss and garbage thrown at you? easy call. Touchdown."

It probably does take a lot of moxy to be out there trying to control that game of huge egos under time restraints in a stadium full of people screaming. It always baffles me how people can blow obvious calls, it must be some kind of blinding pressure you have to experience first hand. The stage was too big for some it seemed, others didn't do that bad IMO. The real officials back will be good for the Chiefs' draft position though.

Pierre Thomas as I recall,I looked as well and found nothing.

They wanted a large increase in compensation. I think we should expect their performance to be better than ever.

GloryDayz 09-27-2012 06:08 AM

Nope. Next time Ed H. throws a game, I'll be all over him. I'll find it funny when the excuses flow freely for missed holds, and every other missed call that we seem to have forgotten then folks make. The replacements didn't get a break, and these guys will get plenty of them. Just watch, tonight we'll be hearing them offered excuses for them being rusty... Sure! These guys should be allowed to get away with the same number mistakes as the replacments got - zero... But alas, there's little justice in this world!

Frazod 09-27-2012 06:10 AM

No. Frankly I prefer suck to on the take. I'm sure the "right" teams will be getting all the breaks now. As usual.

Exactly! They didn't have the benefit of the preseason to get back into the swing of things, so it could be rough for a few weeks, and then back to the standard level of ineptitude.

007 09-27-2012 06:14 AM

after all they are just refs. Part time employees. WE can't expect them to be perfect.

LMAO

EDIT

Part time employees that want to be paid $173,000 per year.

Predarat 09-27-2012 07:44 AM

Maybe for a week or so but soon after I will be back to normal.

Pasta Little Brioni 09-27-2012 07:47 AM

I just wish they'd call a consistent game. Nothing pisses me off more than seeing Tamba manhandled on a play with no call, then on the other side of the ball a big gainer is brought back due to a ticky tack call totally not having anything to do with the play.
