Yes, but we weren't really using play action off it.

A response from the author of the article to this thread:

@smartfootball .@theBGrass Chan Gailey made a half hearted effort to use the pistol formation; he did not use Ault's offense as is being done now.

@smartfootball @theBGrass I considered addressing that misconception in the article but cut it for space. Didn't catch on b/c he didn't do anything with it

LMAO

We weren't really doing anything with it.

It'll be known as "the pistol whip offense" in the NFL :D

It worked for Thiggy because he couldn't play from under center.

I don't think you draft Geno Smith to run the ****ing pistol. Just because he's black doesn't mean he's a 'running QB'. This ain't Vince Young.

And I don't think RG3 is gonna last long at this rate, I really don't. He needs to learn to ****ing slide or he won't see a second contract.

I think elements of the spread are definitely here to stay. I think the Pistol will fade away.

.

Yes, but if you can make it a part of your offense it just makes everything that much harder to defend.

WVU runs a crap ton of plays from the pistol, too, unless I am mistaken.

Well, I mean, there's the FORMATION, and then there's what people tend to do with it, I guess. I just don't see running a lot of designed QB runs with Geno Smith in the NFL.

That offense was arena football compared to the last 2 years.

The formation is basically custom-tailored to run the read option. While most people use it to read the defense to decide whether to hand off to the RB or run with the QB, there's no reason you can't just remove the QB run and replace it with a different post-read option that is a pass.

This is actually a decent read from bleacher report detailing Geno in the pistol.

And yet, the best teams in the NFL.....NE-Hou-Denver-Balt.....all run out of tradition pro style sets. The other two playoff teams in the AFC also do. Amazing, no?

When Atlanta & GB move to this, let me know.
