there's laws banning assault with different degrees of severity. That should be enough.

I think banning guns would be an interesting idea if no murders had ever occurred prior to their creation, if it wasn't unconstitutional, if the banning included all governments being banned from having them, and if nothing else was available to kill people. I don't think that's the case, though.
