Nothing.

Even Harley-Davidson has parts from Taiwan on it.

This poll sucks. Who in the world buys only american or only by price?

houstonwhodat 01-26-2013 06:05 PM

Obama wasn't made in America.

110% no I do no support workers in america. I buy quality whether that is made in the USA or made somewhere else does not matter.

Why the notion of made in the USA is a delusion and one that becomes a greater deception year after year.

Here is the truth, in the very near future, nothing, worldwide will be made by human hands at a production level. Everything will be made by machines, not because machines are always the 'best' but because machines are consistent. If you don't get the quality you want out of a process you find a new process and people are becoming very good at designing processes to mass produce consistent quality goods.

Bringing back manufacturing to the US will bring back few if any jobs. Machines will build the products not people.

Technology now is obsoleting jobs at record paces, you can either artificially employ people by forcing people to be employed doing jobs that are better suited to machines and make that business less competitive. Or you can change your educational system to prepare people for the reality of our near future employment.

I always say if you go into work and know how to do your job a machine can do it for you. Humans excel at dealing with the unpredictable, solving problems and creating new and novel things. That is what we must focus our educational system on. Enabling everyone to be able to compete in those jobs. If you don't, expect unemployment > 50% to be the rule not the exception.

So no I have a general rule I do not enable bad behavior. Something that says 'Made in the USA' has no bearing on if I buy it. The world is changing with technology and the sooner people realize that sooner they will be able to adapt to our future job market.

The simple rule is, if you want to be prepared for the future job market who cares where it was made. What you care, is where it was designed.

There's also a clothing store in the KC area that sells jeans that are 100% USA made. The workers who fabricate the jeans from start to finish are well paid with full benefits. A pair costs $200.

Walmart recently said they're moving back to the Made in the USA when possible. That will be a rough road.

Ooooh, Stickley.

I'm not hugely into the mission style that is their signature, but they make some inlaid wood side tables that make me swoon in a manly manner.

Oh, and since I'm on a roll, I'll note that I buy based on value, not price or nationality. I like it when the best value is American.

I just want the double ply stuff. Like crushed velvet on my cornhole. You can't get that kind of quality out of a union shop.
