yep. 250gb per month. Because of this leak we surpassed it last month. At this point Cox doesn't do anything about it but someday they will.

Lot of zombie exploits out there install processes on network devices so that it takes up a bunch of resources to mine bitcoins and send the information back to their server. This is more with CPU resources on the device as opposed to uploading though.

wow. screw that.

Here's some more info on tomato. One way to approach it would be to just turn off the internet for everything during those times when you aren't around.

If you're feeling more aggressive (this is your network..you can do what you want locally) then just keep an eye on the real time bandwidth monitoring. When the traffic spikes, fire up wireshark and figure out what's going on.

If you're feeling even more randy, break out Driftnet and if they're looking at pictures or movies, you will too.

Honestly it's hard to tell what your comfort level is with some of this stuff, but if you're smart enough to be using DD-WRT then you're clever enough to figure out how to get Wireshark and/or driftnet going.

I'm already shutting down the internet when I am gone at night and during the weekdays until 4pm. But I wasn't seeing a lot of traffic during those hours anyway because the kids are sleeping or in school. I'm trying to nail down which device is taking all the bandwidth without just confiscating all of them.

Blame your kids and Netflix :D

Then I'd get familiar with how to use Wireshark.

Or move. Google Fiber's great.

I'm starting to think Youtube may be the problem on my daughters tablet. I have to monitor it for a couple days and check the stats on the tablet and see. If my suspicion is correct, I'll have to make a rule on the router to block youtube on her device.
