Yeah, I think the coach got a raw deal. Although I would like more explanation on the part about pointing the gun at the crowd. Was it just the crowd of thugs that had attacked him? Or was it a mix of parents, kids, thugs, etc.?

Who cares...he'd been beaten with brass knuckles according to the article.

And something tells me there are considerable details missing from this story.

Apparently you need a firearm to coach in that league.

There is something about some parents & youth football. I don't know what it is. Parents yelling at refs, kids, coaches from the stands and in practice. It's crazy. As a parent of a 4th grader that has played tackle this year & last, you run into some of the worst human beings when you have a kid playing youth football. Most parents aren't like that, but the ones that are make sure you know it.

I would imagine the latter are looking at their kid as a meal ticket.

Back when I was coaching Pop Warner, if the parents did show up, I'd take note of how tall they were and if dad was under 6', I wouldn't really play his kid cause he probably wasn't going to develop into anything anyway. Plus, if dad had beef with it, I really didn't have much to worry about.

Haha.
What's funny is I am 5'8. My youngest is 6'5. He played football until his Junior year.

Just a feel good story all around.

victim blaming. Gotta love america.

If one of the coaches' players or a parent had a gun pointed at them in the process of him allegedly pointing it only at the attackers, aren't they victims too?

And again I'll say that we don't know who was in the crowd that he pointed the gun at, so the point could all be moot if those details are revealed.

Gotta get my wife to read this article so she knows the level of protection I expect from her.

I guess I didn't make that as clear as I could have. I meant I'm not sure I would have been okay with him pointing the gun if the crowd was full of parents and family of the other kids on the team. If he was just pointing at those 6 thugs and whomever was with them then I have no problem with it. A man has a right to defend himself.

My son was in youth football from 2nd grade through 5th and I can relate to this. I saw a couple of parents get into a fight after a game. Several of us other parents had to break them up. :shake:

I would bet since no one tried to help him he probably felt like it him against the world. I know I did when I attacked but a bunch of people. Either way, I think this "league" has done him a favor.
