My wife and I have started something I like over the past couple of years. We just buy something we like and then thank the other for the Christmas gift.

Obviously there is jewelry and designer handbags and that crap, but one less obvious one thing that is always appreciated by my wife is "things that help her get/keep/stay WARM".

Things that have gone over well in the past like:

1. Heated mattress pad for the bed (huge win for New England winters!)

2. nicer, warm slippers.

3. good coats. More expensive than what she would typically buy for herself. Not fur, but North Face or whatever.

4. (her request, I would never have thought of this) alpaca wool socks and a some kind of poncho type thing. Ordered the stuff from, errr, Peru? Someplace in South America. Somewhat pricey, but not completely ridiculous.

My wife is pretty practical, so what ends up happening is special occassions are opportunities to buy her something that she wants, is useful, but she wouldn't spend the money on herself for.

We do that for everything but Christmas. I'm currently a few birthdays ahead, in fact. :)

However, her family has always done 'adoptables", where we buy stuff for us and/or the kids and they'll buy them from us and then give them to us as gifts. It kind of sucks losing the element of surprise but at least you get what you want.

Yes---your actual thumbnail at the end of your appendage.
I guess I'm only used to seeing mine and maybe I'll notice a females if they are painted all fancy. Mine look like horrible compared to yours. You could maybe be a hand model or something like George Costanza.

My wife loves our heated mattress pad. In fact, she uses it year round.

Women are absolutely obsessed with being warm. I'm surprised any females at all live north of Texas.

Yeah my wife is always cold. That's why that blanket is such a homerun. She uses that thing like a child uses a binky

Depends on how much faux outrage exists.
