Big slow white Mormon.
He's OK on special teams.
Andy will want to keep him because he's a BYU guy.

I'm not sure restructuring Houston is wise.

In 2018, if they don't restructure him, they can walk away from him and save $15 million in cap space. If nothing else, that should provide some incentive for him to go out there and play some goddamn ball next year.

Because a healthy and productive Justin Houston is a hell of a lot more valuable than anything you'll get from holding onto Dan Sorenson.

If you restructure him, you're stuck with him for at least 2 more seasons after this one even if that knee doesn't respond. And as much as we love the guy, let's not ignore the fact that his best seasons have been during contract drives. He may well be a paycheck player and yes, his paycheck is on the line in 2017.

I wouldn't restructure him. The Chiefs have a TON of flexibility in 2018 if they just ride out this offseason. They'll have Smith, Maclin, Hali and DJ as potential/likely casualties and they'll be at a place where yet another lost season from Houston would allow them to pull the trigger on him and walk away. They could completely re-make this football team and at that point it may not be a bad idea.

The extension has already failed and they can't do anything but mitigate the damages. Don't do anything that might prevent your ability to escape it.

Well then....by all means....get rid of Reid. We can draft an OT in this draft that provides the same thing that he can do. And considering how deep this TE class is, I'd love to draft another TE and dump Harris.

Considering how deep this S class is, we could pretty easily replace Sorenson as well. Look at how good the Chiefs have been at plugging/playing at that position.

I'm not saying don't cut Reid; I think he's an easy mark and will likely be replaced by a genuine swing-tackle. And if Jake Butt is available in the 4th because of his injury, sure, grab him and replace Harris (though I am not as down on Harris as some; we knew he was a project and he's developed nicely).

I don't know that Sorenson is the kind of guy you make moves with the express purpose of keeping. Make moves that are smart and if in the process you find a few bucks to make Sorenson's contract slightly better, okay. But don't match a 'poison pill' deal in the cap rollover era because you'll pay for it in short order.

Houston restricted last year iirc

Correct, but his signing bonus was so significant that there wasn't really any way to walk away from him in '17 either way. So it didn't matter because that restructure didn't impact their flexibility much.

If they did it again this year, it would lock them into a situation that I don't think they want to be in. Moreover, it would diminish Houston's motivation for '17.

Again - not a wise decision, IMO.

With this class so loaded at TE, I see no reason to keep hands of stone Harris. And Reid can go, too.

he's no Sabby Piscatelli

If they give him a long-term deal then they go a little under Ron Parker money.

Parker 5/25 - 5 per
Sorenson got 4/16 - 4 per

Hey, you didn't say we only got 1 guess. :)

Kind of weird to be honest. Word was 3 days ago that KC put a 2nd round tender on Sorensen. If that's true, then they matched someone's offer rather than taking a 2nd round pick, which I'd find to be stupid as ****.

we are spending a ****-ton on safeties

Berry - a bazillion dollars
Parker - 5/25
Sorenson - 4/16

That's life in the NFL these days. You need playmakers in the defensive backfield with the way the rules slant towards offenses.
