That doesn't even make a little sense... go back to threads as long back as you want and KU fans are trolling ya'll telling you to be better before it's even considered a rivalry.

It was a JV rivalry except for a couple years in both sports.

"Ducking" is an interesting term to use given the context and the stature of those two programs. I'd say "ignoring" would be more accurate.

You can call it whatever you want but they 'avoided' playing Mizzou because they were pouting and upset over them leaving.

That part really isn't even up for debate in lieu of some of Self's comments.

I'll call it ignoring an irrelevant program, yes.

You're right, this isn't like any rivalry I've ever seen.

Drink has already pulled ahead and lapped Leipold in football.

Once Gates gets his recruits in, basketball will start rolling. Once Toupee Bill hangs it up, it’s going to get ugly in Hoops for kU in this series.

Not to mention the enormous resource advantage MU is going to enjoy going forward being in the SEC vs the misfit 12.

I’m afraid the gap between kU and their daddy is only going to continue to widen.

lol

Bill Self sure had a lot to say about it from time to time when it was brought up over the years for supposedly 'ignoring' them.

He could have just said 'next question' and left it at that and moved on but he felt the need to justify his position.

Sounds like butthurt to me, but if you want to call it ignoring by all means . . . .

It's funny you all say things like this and then the second tickets go on sale for this 'irrelevant' program, your KU fans by them up in what, under an hour? I think the first game it was 15 minutes.

Seems like a lot of your fans and boosters are still interested in this 'irrelevant' program, huh?

Mosbonian 12-08-2023 11:41 AM

Hard to feel a rivalry with a team that had to practice how to celebrate after winning a game.

At least a few million people watch Thursday Night Football every week, too, but we can still call them awful games against awful irrelevant teams. I can even say the Chiefs/Broncos game in week 6 was pretty damn bad and it's an irrelevant rivalry against an irrelevant team, even if Arrowhead was filled to capacity.

Oh sure, because KU hasn't been able to find good coaches to take over the program. Only 3 HOF coaches in the past 40 years or so.

As I recall, Missouri leaving like they did caused a lot of disruption and uncertainty for the conference. And Self felt that we should not reward Missouri by playing them. Most KU fans were fine with and agreed with that stance. Most MU fans here were the ones trying to convince us that we should continue the rivalry. Frankly, I would have been fine with never playing MU ever again.

Of course, most of that turmoil was ultimately due to Texas and their controlling BS. Well, now they're your problem once again. Good luck with that. :p

Yes, I realize KU likely sells out all of their home games.

But how often do they sell them out in under an hour? Or 15 minutes in the case of the first game back at AFH between KU and Mizzou.

That was the point.

Apparently, some people (including many on your side) still REALLY care about the game.

I'm not one of them and it just feels like the real 'hate' between the schools has passed.

YES! And THAT pisses me off!

I welcome Oklahoma with open arms to the SEC. Fun old Big 8 rivalry. Want nothing to do with Texas and their bullshit!

The silver lining here is that Texas won't be able to pull the same shit in the SEC that they did in the Big 12. The 'old guard' will make sure of that.
