Updating a previous report, the Kansas City Chiefs are expected to meet with free-agent OT Eric Winston (Texans) later this week. Specifics are not yet confirmed, but it's in the works.

I wonder why we would want to meet with him "later this week".

That just screams us being a fallback option.

The Chiefs seem to be suffering from The Royals syndrome. They just WON'T spend any money. They are losing their fans.

Pioli has thought about calling the agent for every major FA on the market. Somebody left a gum wrapper on his desk and he just can't get near the phone.

And as long as you put in a request to meet with a FA three months out, you can still tell your fans that you 'tried'.

I know everyone on CP is pissed about FA, but who has been signed elsewhere that you wish we could have gotten?

I'm looking at Pioli's laundry list. How can a team have so much cap space and still look for the cheapest free agents? This team can't even have a cup of coffee with Manning. They let every other feasible option to challenge Cassel go by without an effort. Day one of FA and Pioli is already into second tier players.

That is an entirely reasonable and rational question. What is it doing on CP?

Denver has 40 million of cap space and, if they don't sign Manning, are screwed in that the best FAs are gone. I hope PM keeps them on the fence for another week or two while we get Winston and Schwartz signed and then PM decides to go to Tennessee. The Denver fans will be right to go nuts ... all that cap space gone to waste.

Meanwhile, a FA period for us that includes Routt, Hillis, Boss, Winston, and Schwartz would be huge for us, regardless of space we have left. Winston and Routt will not count against the compensation picks we might get for Carr, Orton, McClain, and any others because they were cut prior to our signing.

Except Hillis and Boss are bad signings. But yeah include that in the HUGE part.

They have DLs Amon Gordon and Jerrell Powe returning from last season's roster. Yes, I'm hearing good things about both of those players. And, they are both in positions of need.

I absolutely love Chandler Jones. Great motor, long arms, outstanding pedigree. However not at 11. If you can trade down to get him and pick up another 2nd then I'm all for it.

The closer the time gets, the more this just makes sense.

I heard a bit of the interview Kuechly gave Tim and Pat on Movin the Chains. Sounds like a very bright kid, and some of the numbers they rambled off on him were impressive. Not a ton of sacks or INT's, but a ton of stops behind the line to go with a fair amount of pass breakups.

I can see us drafting him.

After gambling on Baldwin and Houston last year I can see Pioli going with more the sure thing this year unless Tannehill slips to us. Keuchly or DeCastro if we can't trade down and the odds are against that. I think I'd rather have DeCastro over Keuchly. We could have the youngest and best interior o line in the league. We'd be set for a long time on the interior o line.

If we draft Decastro, we better have the best offensive line in the league.

This draft, in regards to Decastro, really depends on what they wanna do with Hudson. If they are gonna put him at C, fine take Decastro. If you are gonna keep him at G, wait and take a C a little later in the draft.


If thats the case, with who all is available at our 11 pick, I could try and get on board with Poe. If Romeo thinks he can turn him into Wilfork, hell yeah take the guy.

One big plus to bringing in a center to start is depth. If we draft or bring in a C to start then Hudson becomes the backup as well as playing G. If we go with Hudson at C we still have to add backup.

Yeah, you essentially want a G who can play C as well just in case.


I think Decastro worked a little at C in a pro day, so he could likely do it if he absolutely had to, but wouldn't want to try and move him there. Same reason I don't really want to move Hudson to C, as he was a great G in college. But I guess thats what he was drafted for so who know.

Neither of those guys fit the scheme we run. Like DJ said, if we are moving to a 1 gap style with some 4 man fronts, sure. But we likely aren't .

Per KFFL, the Chiefs might possibly draft someone to play football for them as early as Thursday.

And they might trade up or down!
