I think Lovie will better utilize the players. Kiffin has been nothing short of awful during his USC tenure, which includes superior talent.

I'd rather go with Jauron and avoid the Tampa 2 altogether...

Then we better trade for Tillman.

I think that defense is the least successful defense in the history of football. Maybe I was just ruined by Herm's version.

FAX 01-08-2013 03:49 PM

Yeah ... take the Tampa 2. Please.

I'd be much happier with an attacking defense to go with our shiny, new attacking offense.

Yeah, even though the Bucs and Bears were usually pretty good when they used it.

ncCHIEFfan 01-08-2013 03:52 PM

Tampa 2 wasn't very "Attacking" when it was in KC before

mcaj22 01-08-2013 03:53 PM

it wasnt attacking in Chicago either

the Bears were fortunate to have a lot of talent on defense to make up for that

Titty Meat 01-08-2013 03:54 PM

Lovie Smith was a great DC.

Not a Tampa 2 fan but I think it's fair to say all defenses need more talent than not to be successful good defenses

ncCHIEFfan 01-08-2013 03:58 PM

I think Lovie will be a great DC, just not too excited about they T2

FAX 01-08-2013 03:58 PM

I would very much like to hear one of our resident NFL experts comment on the statements below ... either to confirm or dispute ... or, perhaps, to clarify ...

As I understand it, the T2 was, essentially, designed as a response to the WCO. The idea was to allow the short passing game (which you couldn't stop, anyhow), but keep the big play in front of you, and wait for an offensive mistake to occur.

It worked for awhile, but it didn't take long for offensive coordinators to re-adjust while, simultaneously, overall quarterback play seemed to improve. One has to wonder, though, why teams continued to stay with the scheme while enemy offenses evolved.

It's almost as though, in a way, the T2 could get partial credit for the NFL's migration into a more passing-oriented league. There were rule changes that accelerated the change, but the T2 was, perhaps, a contributing factor.

I'd rather Clark back up the money truck for Kevin Butler.

I'm not a fan of Jauron, Kiffin or Lovie Smith.

DTLB58 01-08-2013 04:03 PM

The thing I think about with a Lovie Smith defense is the Tebow win in Denver. When he had everyone play back and let Tebow throw 10 yard passes all the way down the field to win the game. :doh!:

Then the next week, the Chiefs play them and cover all the WR's up in their face to make him throw in a tight window and he couldn't do it. Chiefs win.

I've thrown enough stuff against the wall through the years watching our DB's play 15 yards away from the WR's (mostly before RAC) and play this bend don't break BS.

I hate it and don't want any part of it!

Wait until Ray Lewis is done and throw a bunch of money his way to have him on the staff keeping everybody highly motivated.

RunKC 01-08-2013 04:20 PM

Would love Lovie Smith, but I doubt he'd be here for that long.

He'd be a Jack Del Rio hire. Good for us for a few years, but you know he'll get another HC chance in the near future and we'd have to replace him.

WTF is wrong with that. If he comes in and kicks ass it means we are winning dipshit.

O.city 01-08-2013 04:33 PM

Like already stated, you have to put good position guys in there too, who are of the same philosophy so you just continue to promote from within and the philosophy stays.

Like in Pitt, when Lebeau leaves, Butler is cut from the same cloth.

cabinet247 01-08-2013 04:53 PM

I came in here thinking he hired someone.

ghak99 01-08-2013 05:27 PM

I've had all this prevent, read & react, or bend but don't break shit I can stand.

Put the pressure on and never let up.... Screw Tampa 2.

The Tampa 2 needs more talent than most defenses.

Bigger problems than that. Tampa 2 is losing effectiveness because you can't press receivers, so you basically have two safeties with enormous territory to cover and receivers getting a free release to go deep. Secondly, it demands that your middle guys keep garbage out of the middle. With increased enforcement on hitting defensive receivers, safeties can't enforce the middle.

No to the Tampa 2. While Im not a fan of kiffin, I am a huge fan of him running the 4-3 under. Unlike the Tampa 2, a declining defense, he under is an up and coming defense.

Jeff McLane ‏@Jeff_McLane

#Eagles on Rick Burkholder: "He's under contract. We're honoring the contract but allowing him to seek an opportunity with Andy Reid in KC."

Burkholder is the Eagles top athletic trainer, btw.
