Plus i 'punish myself' for my sins by going to the gym 3-4 days a week.
I use the stair stepper 30 minutes plus working out. People are taken back when they see me light one up if they don't know me. |
Give it up Fraz, it's just not worth it. Cigarettes are great, I smoke 50 of them per day. Man, they are satisfying. There really is no sense in torturing yourself since you'll start again anyway. You will get even fatter and it will overwork your heart and you'll die before you're fifty. I'm 60 and in great health. I've been smoking heavily for 45 years.

I've seen people smoke for decades on end and do fine. Others will have problems early. You never know. Be like me and just pick and choose when to smoke. But don't let it rule you. |

Hang in there, Tim. And certainly don't listen to Skip.

I'm on Day 5 since I quit smoking last Thursday. I smoked about a pack a day and I smoked over 2 packs on last Wednesday because I had a few friends over and we drank and woke up the next morning with a bad sinus infection that I believe was caused by the smoking and inhaling a lot of second hand smoke at the same time. So I decided to quit! I haven't smoked a cigarette since and I just hope I don't start up again!

Yeah Fraz theres a loophole in your smoking contract. Just say that you never buy them. Not that you never smoke them. Bum some smokes or get some good sized butts out of the ash tray to smoke. |

I didn't see Frazod smoking at the 37 forever festivites. Maybe he's been successful at quitting?

I have a questions to the smokers here, how long did it take you guys to get addicted? If the question makes no sense, you don't have to answer it. I started smoking a little some time ago, and I'm afraid of getting addicted...
|
Alright FRAZ any Updates...
Just read the whole thing and with the 200th Post in this thread I would like to say that im still quit now after 24 hours... I have chewed Two of the Nicorette gums today but otherwise made it throught a Stressful Friday at work. I will be revivng this thread if y'all dont mind |

Good job Slag. Make it through this weekend and next week will be a breeze. I'm happy for you and your family.
|
You can do it buddy...
|
Thanks for the support..
I went and did my Max 4 at old Chicago with the wife and a couple of shots of Patron Silver... When we left I chewed one Peice of gum |
Hang in there bud, it will be worth it. I quit chewing 2 months ago after several years of that nasty habit. It's a bitch at first, but got easier every week.
|
Gum will help. You can make it.
If she is quiting too that will make it easier. |

I just chew regular gum. Its the oral fixation of doing something with your mouth, IMO, not the nicotine itself. I think the patch and the special gum and all that other bullshit is just a racket. If you want to quit, just do it. Good luck. |

Well im still quit no slip ups or anything... For the Really strong cravings the Gum is working great... I can Feel the Nicotine enter my system and it feels kinda like when you have been running and you stop to catch your breath.. Other than that no really strong urges or cravings that are making me slip or go crazy at this point |

Alright, Still quit... cravings have pretty much stopped except for right after I eat and Right when I wake up.
I find that I am A bit more Irritable but not too bad... Im just not an Angry Person |
great to hear. took me from age 21 to 38 to get quit. always did pretty well till month 3, then i'd fall apart.5 year now, nicotene free. good luck
|
Quote:
I mean why wouldnt you just stay quit after that point? |
good deal, man...
stay with it... even one lousy puff can get you back on the road to smoking... you have to think of it like being an alcoholic... you just can't handle even one drink/smoke so you have to not smoke even a little bit - stay strong... and always carry a stick of nicorette with you (i had to for almost a year, for those times when you'd really really like to have a smoke)... keep up the good work and use that money for something good, like a future vacation or a wide screen tv (ok, you probably won't save up that mch)... :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: |
couldn't deal with it. wouldn't have bad cravings till then.don't know why. could have been drug and alcohol related too..

Altoids as replacements.

Trouble times:
day 1 week 1 month1 month3 Look at the times they give they're "awards" for AA, those are the proven, known "bad times" for addictions. |

For example, I quit copenhagen Jan 2nd 2005. Jan 2nd because I didn't want it to be about a resolution thing. A month later my old man found an unopened can of cope rolling around in his truck. He didn't know I'd quit so he gave it to me. I couldn't stand seeing $5 go to waste so I opened it and put in a giant dip. Threw up about half an hour later. Drove straight through to Virginia a couple months ago. Got tired so I did what I always have done when I'm tired and on the road. Stopped and bought a can of cope. Didn't heave this time but I got pretty sick for a while. I'm a slow learner but it's not a lesson I need to learn 3x. |

The physical craving is now gone. The psychological craving is what can get you. Stick with the mints/gum/whatever. And don't underestimate the power of your own brain to fuck you up. |
I find myself using the gum more and more lately... idk if its just a rough day or what... but I chew one peice for like 2.5 hours then I take it out and want another one right away
|
You're going to be thinking about it a lot ... esp if you have friends or coworkers that smoke. Just chew the gum, grab some suckers... do anything you can other than light up.
It's going to be tough as hell, but you can do it. You need to start associating smoking with things like ... licking a cat's ass... something disgusting. |

Im not QuickSsurfer ... I will equate Smoking with the Broncos winning the superbowl |

Good luck Fraz. I said i wanted to be smoke free by my birthday (this Friday), well it might not quite happen.I started last week cutting back to half a pack, then today I was down to 7.I may never be "totally" smoke free cuz lord knows I do love having a buzz kick in :bong: while I’m having a smoke now and then.BUTFor all intents and purposes, other than say 2-3 a week, I’ll be "smoke free" :thumb:
|
Im still smoke free... but just a tip to the future Quitters..
Dont Buy generic Nicotine Gum... its horrid |
Great job, Slag.
Now you have to quit the gum. |
I'm considering starting smoking to get me off this damn nicotine gum.......
Besides, it gets all gooey when I light it. |
Quote:
Thanks... I think thats going to be easy with this damn Generic Gum.. Its so bad... Id almost rather put a ciggerette out on my tounge |
I successfully quit smoking, I am on week 5! I have attempted to quit 3 or 4 times in the past and the longest I lasted was 2 weeks. But this time it is easier to quit now that I got a new job and they do not allow smoke breaks or smoking on the premises. It seems though when I go out drinking on the weekends, I always bumb a couple of smokes......which I now I shouldn't do, but I still don't wake up the next morning and light one up. I just went cold turkey the day before my first day on the job and it really wasn't that hard
|
I know you catch a lot of hell, but I'm really happy for you, Paul. Good job, man. That's quite an accomplishment. Only other addicts know exactly how difficult.

thanks, it is nice waking up in the morning and not having to hack up a lung, plus I'm probably saving $100/month or so and I can run a mile without getting out of breath now!! it's crazy! |

Seven smoke-free months now.
One problem - last week the wife and I were out having pizza. They had Sam Adams on tap so I ordered one. Now, I don't drink much any more, and when I do it's generally sipping expensive scotch at home. This was the first time I'd drank beer out since I had quit. As soon as I'd swallowed my first mouthful (Sam Adams on tap is wonderful, BTW) the cigarette demon said HEY fuckER I'M STILL HERE AND YOU CAN'T DRINK BEER WITH A SMOKE, DAMMIT! GET ME A MARLBORO NOW! Oh my God it was like someone walked up and punched me. Now, I was at a non-smoking restaurant, and the urge was long gone by the time I left, but I don't know what I'd have done if there had been somebody sitting there smoking. That would have been tough. The moral of the story - cigarette demon is still lurking. It will try to hit you over the head with a bottle (or glass) of beer, so be ready for it. |
True, Tim.
I was waiting in line at a convenience store yesterday. I was fixated on a can of tobacco. I wanted it SO badly. I should really pay at the pump. |
