One might think that you would maximize the ability of your best player by not having him run into 9 man fronts all season by perhaps passing in a few running situations.

I know...crazy talk.

I met Herm earlier this year. He was extremely gracious. Some of the players I ran into had much bigger egos. I got blown off by Justin Medlock, and Mike Nugent got blown off by Dwayne Bowe. Herm wasn't anything like that. He took the time to talk to me one-on-one. Really nice guy.

Kansas City coach Herm Edwards, a former NFL cornerback, described the Wonderlic as something he was lucky enough to have avoided.

"They didn't have it when I was playing," he deadpanned. "I went to Cal-Berkeley, so I probably wouldn't have passed."

Herm was being facetious IMO, and if he does read this crap (which is what most of these opinions are) it's for a laugh. He took this broke dick team to playoffs in his first year with rough situations at QB, LT, RT, FB. The interior D line sucked as bad as it could have possibly sucked. and he started putting in a new system. I'm not ready to question his roster moves yet as so far I've liked "Herms guys" I can't wait until Sunday Chiefs 24 crazy ass points, and Texass with 9 (no td's)

How about the guy who won a road playoff game, and was a field goal away from winning a 2nd road playoff game while Pennington had a torn rotator cuff, and Reggie Tongue and Mark Brown were in the starting lineup?

The facts: 4 playoffs in 6 years, while playing in the same division as a dynasty in its prime and with a QB who always got hurt, 2 playoff victories (including a 41-0 shellacking of Peyton Manning and the Colts), 1 road playoff victory, a field goal away from another road playoff victory.

That's the resume. Everything else is just biases based on disliking the way he talks and his preferred style of play.

Keitzman was talking about this today.

Herm will never be popular untill we at least win the division. We went from that crazy high-scoring O, to... well, this.

He's changing the philosphy of the team... Vermeil's Chiefs made scoring look easy, and now it's not easy... so people are pissed off.

The man obviously wasn't saying that you shouldn't score more than 21 points. (for ****'s sake) He was saying that this team shouldn't need too.

He's trying to instill a tough, hard-nosed, defensive mentality.

Look, after the Jets beat the Jaguars in the playoffs in January 1999 Bill Parcells said ''we needed to score at least 30 points to have a chance to beat that team''. he never said anything about controlling the clock or running the ball. Curtis Martin had like 250 total yards and the Jets won. they were UNPREDICTABLE ON OFFENSE!

Maybe if you had gone from a good coach to a bad coach you would understand it a little better.

Jesus....

Agreeing with Reerun and Keitzman in the same day. :shake:

He's absolutely right.

It amazes me that it actually matters to people HOW we win or lose.

There's no difference between losing 35-31 and losing 13-10.

A loss is still a loss. Scoring 30 points and still losing doesn't make it any easier to swallow, at least for me.

I think if you put Bill Cowher, Andy Reid, or other excellent coaches in the same division as the Pats during that stretch (and had their QB get hurt 3 times), they would have struggled to get 3 playoff appearances and 2 playoff victories in that stretch.

And somehow Herm went to the playoffs last year with a strating lineup consisting of the reviled Samie Parker (who will be replaced by Dwayne Bowe by the bye week), Jordan Black, Kendrell Bell, aand over-the-hill Sammy Knight and Greg Wesley at safety.

You guys on this message board are always talking about how these are the worst players out there. Herm went to the playoffs with them!

Now he's in the process of replacing them, and by next year we should be ready for the next step.

His ability to draft is incredible. The dude plucked a potential Pro Bowl safety in the 7th round. Are you kidding me? The guy would have to post three consecutive losing seasons to get me off his bandwagon. That ain't happening. 'Cus Herm Edwards is the SHIT! Mangina is just plain old shit.

Every player Herm drafted is still a potential pro bowler. We thought the same of Ryan Simms after being a Chief twice as long.

Who caused the adversity?

Go back to his very first interview as the Chiefs head coach. He had to assure everyone he would not **** with the offense. The offense was bigger than the head coach!

HypnotizedMonkey 09-04-2007 08:16 PM

Herm gets to you people!

It IS gonna be kinda weird when we're losing 31 -10 in the 3rd quarter sometime this season though. If your D is a sure steel-trap, you might not need to put up a lot of points, but this D is suspect to give up quite a few points this season.. as it routinely has throughout the last decade.

I think Herm IS messing with you guys though :D ..
..they SHOULD put the applause-o-meter for LJ's carries.. so there might be SOMETHING to applaud for this season.

Yes they were the worst run D in the league during the regular season, but something happened during the playoffs. I too thought, man how pathetic are we that the Colts are stopping us like this, but then they kept stopping teams as they advanced, except New England, but the Patriots seem to have the Colts number. Yes we stunk, but it has as much if not more to do with the fact that in the playoffs the Colts D came on strong.

What the hell ever look at the boxscores,IF KC had had near the offensive production the Jets did, maybe fans would be a little less pissed to this day.

Pennington had almost 200 yds more than Green and focking Leon Washington against the Pats had more rushing yds than LJ against the worst run defense in the league.

Why get personal? For as "awesome" as New York's offense was, their defense SUCKED despite their defensive genious. Meanwhile, ours kept us in the game.

Seems you want DV back.

Messier 09-04-2007 08:27 PM

Oh and every time I hear the "That might be the worst most embarrassing playoff appearance ever" line I laugh. KK started that on the next day. First of all I don't even think it was the worst loss in last years playoffs, and second, the award goes to, and will forever go to the Miami Dolphins 1999 playoff loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. 62-7

That's because you were watching the game through anti-Herm glasses.

NO!!!

I don't want DV back what I want is a focking coach who follows up on what he said.

Go back to the Jags game,New Year's Eve,KC has trick plays etc etc and wins the game they have to and during the post game Herm says you do whatever it takes to win because there's no tomorrow and then the very next week doesn't even have the balls to try something different when it was clear the team needed a shot of something!

Nothing surprising there. Remember, you don't want to try to outscore your opponent on the road. That just doesn't happen a whole lot in this league.

I haven't read the other responses yet....my knee jerk response?

Herm is right.

21-24 points is a very good NFL effort.

If you score more than 21 points or more, on average...one of the following three things is true:

1. You have an OUTSTANDING offense, capable of hanging 30 point on ANYONE. (Vermeil's teams)
2. You are facing a defense that several NFL teams will LIKELY hang 30 points on. (Vermeil's teams)
3. You got turn-overs/breaks/defensive scores that obscure an otherwise average offensive effort. (Marty's teams)

Pretty simple really.

Only Arena league teams EXPECT 24 or more points a week. In the NFL, Defense SHOULD mean something....

JMHO

You might want to check Ryan Sims stats his first full year as a STARTER. He actually did have a good year as a STARTER.

You ignored the question last time, lets see if you do it again. When was Trent's security blanket, QB Coach, Terry Shea let go?

No, I had not formed an opinion then. I was never a member of Germ Warefare, in fact I had all those avatars blocked.
I was truly on a high from the Chiefs hitting the Superfecta the week before. I watched the game in shock and disbelief, much like the Monday Night Meltdown game.

No he didn't. He's always sucked balls.

Bullshit. You raved against Herm all season.

I really admire Kansas City and it's football fans. I would be surprised if they allow Herm Edwards to last as long as they did in New York.

Great forum! Great posters!

You are laughable, to the point of it being a waste of time to discuss this with you.

You totally have ignored the point, Jarred Paige has flashed, has played very little. RYAN SIMS earned a starting spot and played well for longer so far. What has Herm done so great?

You DIDN'T answer the question, in fact you cut it out of my post you responded to.
I was still forming an opinion, but was not impressed from the very first interview. Herm could not carry DVs briefcase.
