Petrino is a dirt bag just like Saban. I am surpirsed anyone trusts these guys professionally. Good luck being a loser in Arkansas.

jlscorpio 12-12-2007 12:10 PM

Good hire. Regardless of Petrino's penchant for job-hunting, he's likely the best coach they've hired since Lou Holtz.

KIFFIN "PISSED" HE DIDN'T GET ARKANSAS JOB

An industry source tells us that Raiders coach Lane Kiffin was "pissed" that he didn't get hired as the next head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks.

The job instead went to former Falcons coach Bobby Petrino.

Here's our question. Since when did Arkansas become such a plum job?

Regardless, and as we hear it, Kiffin wanted it. He manifested his displeasure by, as we're told, slamming doors and cursing.

It's bizarre. The guy is the head coach of an NFL team. He has done well in his first year. Why in the heck does he want to give up what could be a promising career at the highest level of the sport?

So if Kiffin wanted Arkansas, then we assume that he'd be interested in other available college jobs. And that, as a result, he's possibly not long for the Raiders.

As to the Raiders' position on all of this, we're told that the belief is that owner Al Davis would be happy to let Kiffin go.

"It's the same deal there as it was in Atlanta," the source said. "No one is real happy."

I love how Petrino has a 41-9 college record and people call him a loser.....

Say what you want but that's a better pull than I think most people expected Arkansas to get.

you don't understand the simple distinction between the man and his record?

bailing on a 5yr, 24 mill contract makes you a loser, or a putz, or a p%&^y....it has nothing to do with your college record...everything to do with what kind of a man you are...or aren't...

Kiffin is from Arkansas. That's probably why he's pissed.

Fayetteville and the surrounding area has a lot to offer. Beautiful scenery, very diverse and progressive without the big city crime problem....hopefully that won't change. Also, we have a great stadium and Arena here with all the modern amenities. With Wal-mart, Tyson chicken, & JB Hunt all have their world HQ's here so there's a lot of money in the area.

Petrino is a complete dirt bag for pulling that crap on Art Blank and the team. He left them hanging out to dry. Six hours before the game the owner asked him point blank twice "What shoud I tell the media when they ask if you're staying" Petrino looked him in the eye and told him "you have a coach I'm staying."

The guys word is not worth jack. He is to football what Hootie is to this board. I hope his luck takes a dive when he gets back to the college level, he deserves it.

He's a loser with the way he conducts himself and handles people.

I know you equate everything to football, wrestling, but there is no record to score integrity. I don't care if he was an undefeated college coach, you don't conduct yourself that way as a professional.

It's disgusting that he couldn't look players in the eye, the same ones that killed themselves for him since he was hired 10 months ago, to tell them he was leaving for Arkansas. He couldn't even tell the assistant coaches, the same ones that uprooted their families, that he was taking another job.

He's a ****ing scum.

Herzig 12-12-2007 06:41 PM

I don't really care what he did to Falcons...in fact, I think he's stuck with Arkansas because of what he did. I'm happy that Nutt is gone and Petrino is replacing him.

That’s all well and good, but he has lost all creditability. What happens when he goes to perspective players houses and they as him “coach, you are asking me to play for your school for 4 years, are you going to be there for 4 years?” The guy has no integrity and who is going to believe a yes answer? He looked Art blank in the eye, shook his hand Monday six hours before the game and told him he wasn’t going anywhere. Blank goes on national TV and told the audience he was staying. He made a chump out of not only Blank, but the organization, the players, the assistant coaches and the fans. I think he dug himself one hell of a hole with the way he weaseled out of Atlanta. To put it in Layman’s terms, not only did he screw the Atlanta organization, but he screwed himself.

'Hamas' Jenkins 12-12-2007 08:27 PM

I can't believe he just left a note.

Work the extra three weeks, quit, and then explain yourself in front of your players.

What a pussy shit bitch.

Falcons players bash 'disloyal' Petrino
Former coach called a 'cancer' on team

By STEVE WYCHE
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 12/13/07

Flowery Branch — Falcons rookie defensive end Jamaal Anderson, the team's first-round draft pick from the University of Arkansas, has gotten non-stop calls from players, friends and associates with the Razorbacks football program. They all want to know what type of guy their new coach, Bobby Petrino, is.

"Disloyal," said Anderson, Petrino's first pick as an NFL coach. "If he can leave players here, what makes you think he won't leave the players he's going to coach? I'm just afraid to see what happens if he does bad at Arkansas. Is he going to leave those kids?"

Lots, lots more here:

ROFL

Veteran safety Lawyer Milloy taped the "insensitive" farewell letter Petrino sent to players to his locker. Petrino's copied signature was crossed out in red ink.

"Coward!" was put in its place.

Terence Moore takes a whack at Petrino (and the Falcons organization):

http://www.ajc.com/blogs/content/sha..._blank_hu.html

All Petrino did was become Petrino, and this is what Petrino does: He lies, and then he leaves. He almost did it when he coached Louisville and tried to sneak into Alabama in the middle of the night to take the job of Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville. Later, Petrino signed a hefty extension with Louisville, supposedly as a sign of his loyalty, but he tried to get the LSU job a few days later. He also swore his allegiance to the University of Louisville, and then to the city, and then to college football two summers ago after he agreed to a 10-year deal worth $25 million. Several months later, he worked in the shadows to get his “dream job” in Atlanta.

Even so, Blank and McKay did a series of foolish things. First, they ignored Petrino’s historically deceitful ways - including the ones that got him to the Falcons - and then they shrugged over the fact that college coaches regularly flunk in the NFL, and then they hired the guy anyway.

That’s why it deserved just a yawn when Blank spent his portion of the news conference speaking of feeling “betrayed” and “let down” after Petrino did what Petrino always does. Blank also said he felt “abused” when he was told by Petrino that “You’ve got a head coach” after a firm handshake only to watch Petrino smile and grin and laugh the next day as the new head coach of the Razorback Nation.

McKay added later that Petrino expressed often during recent days that “He was able to communicate better with college players than pro players.”

Really? I mean, how could Blank and McKay not know as much before they did the ridiculous by giving the guy that five-year contract worth $24 million? The examples were everywhere (Lou Holtz, Steve Spurrier, Butch Davis, Nick Saban, Dennis Erickson) of college coaches who didn’t realize they were dealing with grown men in the NFL. “He couldn’t handle a lot of noise, so he didn’t even want us to speak that loud at team dinners,” said the normally taciturn Warrick Dunn, whose tongue was on automatic on Wednesday while speaking of Petrino. “It was like we were in kindergarten. He didn’t even want us to have the TV on in the locker room, and not even Coach [Bobby] Bowden or Coach [Mark] Richt was like that.”

Mecca 12-12-2007 09:54 PM

I bet the Falcons have a hard time...who the hell wants that job?

wow, these players say it perfectly....Petrino is a coward. He ran away. I don't care what his college coaching record is. He isn't a man.

Quote:

"Everything he preached over the past eight months was a lie," Milloy said. "Everything he said he stood for was a lie. He came in and messed with a lot of people's lives — he wasted a year of my life. It was a cowardly act. A selfish act.

"One thing I'm really [mad] at was while he was having a half-hearted approach to games, he was putting us all at risk. His mind wasn't in it. That explains why he threw a challenge flag a play after he was allowed to. Why we went for it on fourth-and-9 and punted on fourth-and-1. Maybe he was on the phone at Arkansas to the AD at that point.

"The cancer was diagnosed. Never would you want it to be your head coach, your general, to be that cancer, but in our case, it was."

Linebacker Michael Boley said of Petrino's departure: "He took the easy way out. There are a lot of different ways you can handle that. As a man, call us. Come in here for one last team meeting. A note in the locker? That's just saying, 'I can't even look you in the face right now.' That's cowardly."

Added veteran linebacker Keith Brooking: "I've been totally committed to Coach Petrino and everything that he brought to the table. That's why I feel betrayed. It goes a lot deeper than just me. It's Mr. Blank and everything that he's given to us. There is anger inside of me because I bought into Coach Petrino and his beliefs and what he was trying to do with this football team. I feel betrayed with the decision that he made."

guess I don't see the connection...

regardless of anyone's opinion on Vick, it is clear that Petrino is a spineless coward...not telling your assistants? lying to your owner? not speaking to your team? leaving them a 5 sentence note?

You get paid millions. You should at least be able to look your peers in the face and tell the truth.

Well, Vick's a dog killer who lied to everyone under the sun about it, and they're still wearing his initials on their game gear. Petrino lied about his job interests. That's all I'm saying, not that I really care.

To me the funniest thing about that is Roddy White this season has doubled in production....he's basically twice as good and finally shown he can play without Vick.....yet he does that......

I think the top candidate would be Jason Garrett. However, Arthur Blank was one of the main proponents of the NFL rule requiring NFL teams to interview minority candidates. When the Falcons hired Jim Mora Jr. I don't recall any minority candidates getting interviewed. Before Petrino was hired the Falcons interviewed Ron Rivera, but I think everyone knew Petrino was getting that job. Blank is going to have to make it known that he's giving serious consideration to a minority head coach. I'm not suggesting that he's obligated to hire someone because they are a minority, or that if a minority candidate gets the job they did so because they are a minority. I just think, given the racial climate in Atlanta right now due to the Mike Vick trial, Blank is going to need to do some PR- especially in light of the fact that he helped bring about the Rooney Rule. It's an interesting dynamic, to me.(I don't think the "fried chicken" remark will factor too much. From what I've heard most of the African American population in Atlanta did not perceive that as racist, and it's widely known there that Arthur Blank has a strong commitment to diversity in the workplace)
That being said- if it was me, the guy I'd want would be Jason Garrett.

That is awesome. Petrino is a douche bag and a coward. I hope parents that have kids recruited by Arkansas give a big middle finger to that school.

As I said last night from that ESPN report if he would have showed his face at the Falcons headquarters he probably would have got the shit kicked out of him deservedly so.

Garret may be in the mix but after this mess, I think he will be looking for a coach that has been through some tough times, hung in there and didn't quit. That being said, I also wouldn't be surprised to see Mike Singletery get an interview.

The players can still be idiots (true) and still get fucked over by someone else.

It's not an issue of what he really did to the players, in my opinion, but rather the fact that he

A) Only really had 3 more weeks of work
B) Promised his boss he was staying
C) Has done this multiple times before
D) Lied to his subordinates

Vick deserves to die, and I hope he burns in hell/L. Jackson

At the same time, Petrino is a sniveling cocksucking coward whose word is worth about as much as three pints of elk piss.

The two don't have to be connected just because they share a common element (the Atlanta Falcons players).

BigRedChief 12-13-2007 06:04 AM

The dude lied to his boss. His boss said no way am I letting you leave until the season is over. He went behind his back. I can deal with that. A person has a legal right to be free to work wherever they want but to go about it this way was not morally right.

But to treat his players like this? To send a form letter full of cliches? To not tell them in person. Cowardly. You went to training camp, mini-camp, through the Vick circus, you sold a team and family mentality and then you don't even tell them face to face?

You quit before the season was done. You quit on your team and the players. That's the unforgiveable sin.

Now, if I'm a 5 star recruit why would I trust him sitting in my living room telling me that he will be there for all 4 years of my college career?

I'm little impartial here in Arkansas...but I don't blame him for leaving. Head Coaches don't get hardly any loyalty from the press, owners, or fans. They are under constant scrutiny even if they are winning. Why should they have any loyalty under those circumstances?

I don't agree with the way that he resigned, but regardless...in that Atlanta situation...I don't blame him.
