How do you know how many threads you've started?

Go to your profile, click on "statistics" and "find all threads started by".

Go to User CP, click "your profiles on the left side, click the stats tab, and select "Find all threads started by..". It'll tell you.

You keep count in your head.

I did that, but I didn't see a total. I'll check again.

User CP -> Your Profile -> Statistics -> Find all Threads, and it's on the top right

It says you have 500, but I'd guess the search maxes out at 500? :shrug:

That was actually the reason I asked Jim how he found that stat.

I didn't know how to find how many threads I started, and didn't know how to find out.

I screwed around until I figured it out.

It says your first thread was Feb 2006, so unless you lurked a while...

Apparently it maxes out @ 500, DaFace might be able to find out your actual total.

I really thought gochiefs would be closer to 10%, but I guess he's calmed down in the last couple of years.

...and out of complete randomness (or is it? :hmmm: ), Rain Main's ratio comes out to almost exactly 3% (3.004). That should surprise no one. :)

Taking a break from work and needed something else to do... if you do a search for last posting date in ascending order, it adds 188 threads from 2/26/06 (where it originally maxed out) back to 3/05/05. So, 688 total.

A quick search showed one was a police officer, one was a taxi driver, and several have been teachers.... all jobs carried out for the greater good. Okay, maybe that's not what the taxi driver had in mind; it was probably more about being unemployed with a GED, but still important to society. Ken Jennings was a software engineer, which might not save the world, but at least he's not going down in the Wikipedia history books as Jared from Subway.

Yes but somehow some guys are finding out about more than 500.

But according to Skip its not how many threads you started but how many of those have over 100 replies that makes you a good poster on the Planet.

From your profile, it does a search in descending order, and maxes out at 500. If you go to the last page, you can see the oldest date it comes up with... yours is 2/12/06. Then, you can go to Search -> Advanced Search and do an ascending search for threads started by you... then find that date and count backwards (25 threads per page). So yours is 680... a few short of luv.

So I've started 61 threads that have had at least 100 replies. How does that rank among posters on the Planet?

Is there a way to data mine the post counts with a criteria of at least 100 replies and rank em?

Oops, screwed that up... searched for posts and not threads... it's 500 + 25, so not 680.

Hmm...if the search didn't max out at 500 results, you might be able to do a search for all his threads with the word "scout" in one of his posts. Maybe.

Of course, the search index is still pretty suspect, so even that might not be accurate.

Hmm...if there is, it would have to be through the search function somehow. I don't have any real limiting criteria in the admincp or anything.

I'd bet if I were a mysql guru I could take it direct from the db, but I'm not touching that thing. I'd probably blow the place up!

Of 14 threads, my highest are 98 (a HoC thread), 81, 56, and 56.

Yeah, looks like you could figure it out for individual users pretty quickly, but I don't have any easy way to pull out a full list or anything.

Ooh! That'd be an even MORE telling stat: what portion of a user's threads made it to more than 100 replies?

For me, that would be 10/278 = 3.6%

The percentage of threads to forums would be interesting, too.... or who has the most threads in the HoC, DC, etc. I didn't even know Taco posted here anymore until seeing his name in the DC 'last post by' a couple of weeks ago.

Definitely. You can do a lot of that manually, but vBulletin doesn't have a lot of features when it comes to summary stats by user. Even my "top threads" list is generated by the addon at the bottom of the forum root (and even that's limited by whatever constraints I hard code into it).

To be in the top 10 with only 1 or 2 threads started in DC is something to be pround of.

I believe Bearcat manually generated that list based on my list of posters with more than 500 threads. You don't have 500 threads, which is why you weren't on the list.

So Bearcat's list is one of most 100 reply threads? I wish it listed how many each had.

His list is how many 100-post threads people have, compared to how many threads they have overall - but only those with at least 500 threads. So yes, I think.

If you look at the list, the first number is total threads, the second number is 100-post threads, and the third is the percentage of their threads that receive more than 100 posts. So, Logical's started 857 threads, and 119 of those have received more than 100 replies for a percentage of 13.89.

After a few replies and a PM, I guess I underestimated the importance of this statistic to Skip. So, here you go... To be on this list you have to have started at least 500 threads OR have at least 30,000 posts. It didn't add that many to the list, and I'm sure that still leaves off some quality thread makers, but I'm not that bored today. ;)

The first number is the number of threads started, the second number is the number of threads with over 100 replies, and the last number is the percentage of threads with over 100 replies.

Well, I got repped by patteeu (who used to be good for 2,000 points). he now is good for 300 points. o:-)

Everybody's rep power has been decreased it seems. it's a calibration system that you can adjust. I'm a mod at a Jet site and did the rep calibrations there. it's all about the point system. Skip.
