What about route running discipline? What about discipline with blocking assignments? What about filling lanes and keeping assignments?

Anyone who has played the game knows discipline is more than penalty stats.

I agree with your list. Some of these things are hard to quantify, though.

That said, did we look disciplined in week 1 when we gave up over 500 yards of offense? How about last Sunday, giving up, what?, 400+?

Basically if the Chiefs play even a good offensive team they give up about 450 yards.

This isn't quite as effective as the penalty statistics because last year we didn't even have a QB playing the position. I'd sure hope the INT numbers would be down with our new "franchise" player.

And we've only played 2.5 games thus far this season, so that affects the numbers, too.

Sure, penalty stats jump out, but often high penalty stats are an indication of being out matched physically and I believe that is more the case so far this year. For example, I don't see a lot of personal fouls. Although I'm not happy about the off-sides penalties on offense. Then again neither is Haley.

Sure it is hard to quantify. Another telling stat would be number of long running and passing plays.

In week 1 I saw a team that just got physically dominated. Philly was too strong in the defensive front 7 and they just executed well on offense. Again, both an issue of talent, experience, and strength of opponent, which is what I believe is the Chiefs real problem. For example, they only have 4 weeks with Haley as the OC. Did you know that the three teams that fired their OC the last week of the preseason are a combined 1-8 record?

I believe as they get more time together and the schedule softens they may find 3 or 4 wins.

Yeah, and I believe they will face another good offense this week.

I am stunned that Adrian Jones is still in the NFL.

No, that's not my contention at all.

But the numbers you posted are ridiculously skewed, and IMO, show nothing resembling improvement when it comes to discipline.

You're trying to show that the OL is more disciplined because they gave up more sacks, but don't take into consideration that the immobile Damon Huard was playing in the first two games (after Croyle's injury) and then the 3rd string Thigpen in the 3rd game.

The same argument can be made for the INT stats. They are horribly skewed.

Personally, I think this OL is WORSE than last year, and I have no idea how anyone can try to claim that this team ins more disciplined regardless of how you would like to define it.

I'm not contending the OL is more disciplined because they have given up fewer sacks. I am contending that the coaching is better and it shows on the field. The example about sacks was to offset you contention that the penalty stats were proof positive that the team is not more disciplined.
