True.

That said many have done well given the right roles.

I can't imagine the acting being any worse than the 1998 version...

I'm A G-fan but he was the BEST of the whole lot on that radioactive $3itstorm.

His "love interest" and the guy right off a huge award in the birdcage was the worst acting I've ever witnessed. I take that back. Now that Syfy is helping to produce Asylum movies we've finally surpassed that.

Barely.

Only TOTL computers saved that film...

Ceej 02-22-2014 01:14 PM

FTR, I am not a Broderick fan.

However, Broderick, when you look at it kind of looks like Brokedick.

I am now VERY interested.

bowener 02-25-2014 02:09 PM

Wow. Over/under on number of monsters in this film? Just Godzilla? The video shows a weird foot like thing stamping down on the ground that doesn't match a part of Godzilla.
edit: After rewatching it there are some strange things at 1:33 which looks like something with folded wings diving or falling into the ocean. 1:48 there is something knocking fighters from the sky, and the setting looks similar to the scene from 1:33. 2:07 is the weird foot thing, that looks like the edge of a bent wing, sort of how a bat walks on the ground.

I would enjoy if Ghidorah makes an appearance, though with an altered appearance deviating from the tree trunk form in the past. If there is another monster with wings, my money is on Rodan. The Destroyer had wings, but it basically an unknown, so highly doubtful.
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/vIu85WQTPRc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Ok, did a bit of digging. Minimum of 2 monsters is the rumor. I'm sticking with Rodan.

ThaVirus 02-25-2014 02:12 PM

I think I saw that. It looked like a folded wing or something.. Like a pterodactyl or something similar.

There was also the water bear thing in the teaser but that could have just been to create hype.

Ghidorah is just all kinds of stupid. I'd rather they stay away from there.

Rodan would work fine for me.

Yeah, well, one of us got smarter since he was nine, and the other apparently hasn't. :p

I imagine you could do a giant three-headed monster "right", but the original ghiderah was just as stupid as space-travel enabled, jet engine powered, flying, sabertoothed turtle.

My nine year old self loved it. Now my kids couldn't get me to spend $50 to bring the family to a movie so far beyond stupid. Give me realistic oversized, invincible monsters!!

Destroyah, if it isn't King Ghidorah

Amnorix 02-25-2014 02:46 PM

Definitely keep those expectations low. Better to have them exceeded than crushed... Let's face it, "modern" versions of those old Japanese monster movies centuries have really failed to live up to even the low expectations we've set for them.

It sounds like it is going to be 2 new never before seen insect like (possibly mutating) monsters. Speculation is that they are man made in the Nevada desert since there are shots of Las Vegas being destroyed (which is a funny nod to disaster films destroying monuments... all of them are in LV).

KC_Lee 02-25-2014 04:43 PM

Things I love about the upcoming movie after watching, and re-watching, the latest trailer;
1) Looks like they are tying this movie to Godzilla’s origin story from the very first Godzilla movie
2) The tone of the movie appears to be very somber and serious. Godzilla’s first movie had that same tone but after 50 years of camp it’s hard to remember that fact.

Dear God am I hyped to see this movie.

This genre will always lend itself to campiness, but it is good to see them moving back toward the tone of the original film. At that time it had good special effects, and a very serious tone and message to it.

This movie can be good if the acting is not over the top, and they let the message of the film speak for itself rather than ramming it down the audience's throat. Something else that may not bother some, but I hate revelations that come via exposition. Obviously some things should be revealed through dialogue, but I do not want this to be something like M. Night would do where the entire back story of the monsters are spoon fed to the audience via the mouth of some government official or scientist that could not possibly know everything he knows.

Let us fill in the blanks dammit!

Where did Godzilla come from? What is he?

The trailer says they awakened it and that the nuke tests in the 50's were actually attempts to kill it. So was it created by the radiation from Hiroshima and Nagasaki nearly a decade prior? What's he been doing in all the time between the bombings in the 50's and now? Are the other monsters' origins the same as Godzilla's? Are all of the monsters trying to destroy mankind? Is Godzilla an anti-hero of sorts?

I am ready to know.

Or if you go by the Heisei Series timeline Godzilla is a radioactively mutated Godzillasaurus and King Gidorah is the result of three Dorats being placed in the same location as the original Godzillasaurus.

I liked both of them. I don't have a very specific memory, but I'm pretty sure I cried when one Rodan went into a volcano to save his/her brother/sister/child or whatever, and both died.

'course I was probably 7 or something.

Mothra. If you don't know this song you don't belong to my generation.

That was a great breakdown.

Slowed down, what most of us thought appeared to be a folded wing actually looks more like an insect leg. According to IMDB: "Urban Collector, an online toy distributor, revealed that one of the monsters featured in the film is named "Muto" and has eight-legs. It has also been confirmed that another monster will have wings".

Now I'm curious to see:

-The monster designs
-The origin of the monsters
-The origin of the huge skeleton
-The motivation behind Godzilla fighting the other monsters

The panoramic view of the skyline and the falling streaks?

I'm guessing that's just a widened shot of the paratroopers holding flares in their hands. I can't imagine why they'd be sending those guys into the city like that though. I guess the flares could be used to 1) make sure they don't hit each other on the way down, as the weather seemed a bit rainy/foggy/hazey or 2) mark the location of some sort of bomb strike..

Marking a bomb strike seems unlikely, though, given the fact that the troopers would be bombed themselves and also that Godzilla is ****ing huge and likely wouldn't need any sort of marking in the first place.

Something else of note is at 1:44 during the shot of the huge skeleton. There's a large pile of bodies to the right of the explorers. They look pretty "fresh" so it'll be interesting to see how they got there.

.

Nope. Not ever in the history of ever would you do that in a tactical/combat situation. I know you're just guessing- but that scene kinda made me roll my eyes a little bit.

But I can deal with it, cause I'm as jacked as everyone else for this.

Wow, maybe I need to get my eyes checked! It looked like some alien tentacles or something to me. Watching it again (and wondering why I didn't notice the jumpers right before), I know see what they are if not why. Thanks.

My most anticipated movie in a long, long time...

Love the homage to 1954 and the twist about the nuke tests being a cover for them trying to kill Godzilla.

Oh and that final scene...just *chills*...

Heisei Series (1984 - 1995)
The Return of Godzilla (Godzilla 1985)
Godzilla vs. Biollante
Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah
Godzilla vs. Mothra (Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth)
Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II
Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla
Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (Godzilla vs. Destroyer)

Overall the Heisei series of Godzilla movies were good; better effects, solid storytelling and all 7 followed the same continuity.

Favorites of the series, in order;
Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (Godzilla vs. Destroyer)
Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah
Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II

Moving into the 2000's started the Millennium series. (2000 - 2004)
Godzilla 2000: Millennium (Godzilla 2000)
Godzilla vs. Megaguirus (Godzilla x Megaguirus)
Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (GMK)
Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla (Godzilla x Mechagodzilla)
Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. (Godzilla x Mothra x Mechagodzilla: Tokyo S.O.S.)
Godzilla: Final Wars

While still solid movies there is no continuity with these films. Each one only ties to the very first (1954) Godzilla film, with the execption of Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla (Godzilla x Mechagodzilla) & Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. (Godzilla x Mothra x Mechagodzilla: Tokyo S.O.S.).

They mess with the whole Godzilla cannon in Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (GMK) but it's a good movie.

Favorites in the series, in order;
Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla (Godzilla x Mechagodzilla)
Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. (Godzilla x Mothra x Mechagodzilla: Tokyo S.O.S.)
Godzilla: Final Wars

He is a kind of pterodactyl I believe
