No salary cap doesn't equal unlimited spending in Kansas City. The Chiefs don't have the same revenues from concessions, luxury suites and apparel that other teams have and the Hunts have never been a family that outspends other teams in the league.

I'm certainly not stating that it's impossible but I have a hard time believing that Clark Hunt would be willing to have $18-$25 million wrapped up in two receivers each season.

Not a huge fan of signing RBs to lucrative deals, but this specific contract seems to be reasonable, and it's worth taking a shot on a guy like Charles, who appears to be special.

Prop things to that Pioli guy.

Oh, and I hope we're already working on the Flowers extension. He's priority A. Then Bowe (depending upon the Fitz possibility), and then Hali.

I agree with this post. Normally, I'm not a fan of signing RBs to long-term contracts. This one appears totally reasonable, however.

I really like this team. Unlike Carl, they actually proactively manage the team instead of letting things become crises.

This is a great point. I'm surprised you made it, but it's a great point nonetheless. o:-)

And I've never used that particular emoticon before. Happy holidays.

I agree on the three players, but Halis deal should be next, then Bowe then Flowers.

Simply because that is the order that we have the rights for the specific players.

If we hold player rights for 5 years, this is the final year that we own Halis rights and if we lost him, where would our pass rush be? Remember 2008 when we had 10 sacks?

ChiefsCountry 12-11-2010 07:48 PM

Judging by New England's track record I wonder how they will regard Flowers. New England sort of let its defensive backs walk.

Not Ty Law...well, until he was like 31.

I think they ****ed up with Asante Samuel, but I don't see Clark Pioli letting Flowers walk like NE did Asante... I think NE felt they could do so and they still had enough talent to sustain a playoff caliber defense without him, this is a different situation.

Flowers is 24

As I pointed out, we own his rights another 3 years unless a new CBA is agreed upon...Hali only has one more year and Bowe has 2...again, using the current structure.

There is no way Flowers is going anywhere for the next 6 years or more.

Hali is a FA after this season and Bowe has 1 more year on contract.

Im not talking contract, Im talking rights to a player.

We can place tenders on either player of a 1st and 3rd or franchise either to keep them once their contract expires up until after their 6th year in the league.

That is why DJ is still a Chief and he didnt hit the open market after his rookie deal expired.

Average corners are a dime a dozen to a defense with a good front 7...players like Ty Law and Brandon Flowers are treated differently because they change the way your team plays defense.

Besides Samuel, I dont really remember the letting any good corners walk.

The only way I see Flowers not being a Chief in three years is if we get at least a 1st and 3rd for him and we sign everyone else, which I would view as a mistake because players like Flowers are extremely rare and almost irreplaceable.

If we lose him in the next couple years, it sets this defense back a couple steps.

Quesadilla Joe 12-11-2010 09:13 PM

That is a pretty cheap contract. I was hoping Pioli would overspend like he did with Derrick Johnson.

Shit, both contracts are outstanding for this team. Players are happy with the guaranteed numbers, and we stillhave plenty of wiggle room under the alleged cap for years to come. Pioli knocked it out of the park.

Derrick has made strides toward being the player he can be, but just wait till he takes the next step once we get a real DT to play in front of him to keep blockers off him.

Dude is gonna be in full on beast mode.

Same goes for Belcher.

Id also like to say that I think its very telling that KnowMo just made a comment about something Chiefs without adding some useless crap about the Broncos.

And this is a good thing...

The Bad Guy 12-11-2010 09:57 PM

Flowers basically has 2 more years on his deal after this one. He'll be an RFA after next year.

Lock Hali up now. Lock Bowe up next year and then get Flowers in the last year of his deal.

Reaper16 12-11-2010 10:03 PM

Might wanna' work on re-signing Brandon Carr, too.

'Hamas' Jenkins 12-11-2010 10:03 PM

That's a truly great contract for us, and it should cover the remainder of his useful years. Who is the guy who does the contracts for the Chiefs now (I know they separated these two formally after Carl left, but a new guy was hired in this capacity this year, IIRC)?

You'd hope Pioli would learn from that mistake, because their inability to retain talent in their back seven arguably cost them two SB's (when the Colts came storming back and the Giants).

Besides, Flowers will still be very young when his next contract is up, and like Seymour, he's a special enough defensive player that they'll most likely cave to his demands.

Donovan is the business guy, nothing to do with football operations.

'Hamas' Jenkins 12-11-2010 10:18 PM

Could be. Whoever it is has done a great job. Ultimately, of course, the owner and GM always sign off on those deals, but someone else usually does a majority of the legwork. The Charles and Johnson extensions were great deals, because we weren't buying at their lowest, but we still retained promising players for a long period of time before their price escalated due to the open market.

From what Ive understood, Donovan is handling the seating and tickets and Clark took over for Denny Thum and is being hands on with trying to lock up the young core of this team.

There is a guy from another site I post on that has pmd me info from time to time that all of which has came to fruition...well one was a rumor that completely fits.

1) Clark Hunt is being hands on with trying to lock down the young core of this team for the long haul.

2) Haley felt Josh had cheated in the first meeting by some means of finding out about plays we hadnt run in games. this was part of the reasoning of "there is a lot of shit being talked about you"

3) He told me that DJs deal was gonna happen "in the following days" and had already been negotiated..e told me this a couple days before it was announced (at the time I didnt make much of it TBH)

I will hold more weight to what info he shoots me in the future because these three seem to be true.

I really could care less about this season. I honestly have been bored watching the Broncos this year and have probably only watched 4 full games and the rest of them I have them turned off by halftime.

Maybe next year we won't be decimated by injuries in training camp and I will have a reason to watch.

You seemed to care plenty in the pre-season when you declared a lot of false bullshit.

Now that your team sucks, again, you have another excuse.

You lost one key player. Dumervil. That's it.

Of course he doesn't. He's the most inmature fan I've ever come across in my entire life.

He's pulling the too cool attitude now. He spent months hyping the Broncos, making bets that he would never support about how they would be better than the Chiefs, and when it all falls apart, he pulls the "I don't care/here's another excuse card".

I'm baffled by how many on this board like him.

keep ya head up little homer. The rut you guys are gonna be in for the next 2-3 years will teach you alot about being realistic about your teams expectations. By the time you gare through it, it will help you appreciate the wins when they do come back around.

This years failure had little to do with training camp injuries and a whole lot to do with the way Josh dismantled your team step by step.

Clady missed all of training camp, Knowshon missed all of training camp, Buckhalter missed all of training camp, Darrell Reid (our best special teams player) hasn't played all year, Ryan Harris got hurt in training camp, so did Chris Kuper, Demaryius Thomas, Eric Decker, and Tebow.

The first time we started our entire offensive line was the first game we played against you guys. Our secondary has been banged up all year....

This has been a fluke of a season.

The bright side is that Denver only has a season like this once a decade and we will back to our winning ways next year.

A fluke season? How can it be a fluke season when everyone with a ****ing brain and a pulse predicted the Broncos would be roughly 5-11.

It's a predictable season.

A fluke is watching Brandon Lloyd turn in a top 5 receiver season or Kyle Orton leading the NFL in passing yards. That's a fluke if you want to label that.

But the Broncos record? Hardly a fluke.

You know why your defense couldn't stay healthy? Because you had a sack of garbage bunch of old washups.

That's why.

And sorry to disappoint, but your hero Mc****overafranchise just skull ****ed you guys into the ground for at least the next two upcoming seasons. Enjoy the bottom of the AFC West.

McDaniels didn't set us back. It is a fact that the Jay Cutler trade and Brandon Marshall trade was the right decision. We have 4 WR's with more TD's than Marshall and Kyle Orton has outplayed Cutler ever since the trade went down. And oh yeah... We also managed to get Tim Tebow.

Hey, if you feel like you are having success.

Then I wish you a hundred more years of prosperity.

Neither Orton or Tebow will be under center for your next playoff game.

Jared Allen played better with a worse D when he was with the Chiefs even when Hali still sucked.

Get my point now!!!!

Ok, this dude's not actually a Bronco fan. The jig is up.

Nobody here can honestly say that Denver won both the Cutler and Marshall trades.

We lost the Hillis and Scheffler trades but we struck gold with the big trades, heck we still have a second round pick coming to us from the Marshall trade.

Nobody cares about the trades. You are talking about winning and losing trades.
