Here's an interesting article by Bill James that talks about Patek quite a bit. According to this, he was above average but not great. He's certainly the best of the bunch as far as the Royals are concerned.

When Hoch is rolling, he's very efficient. His problem is that he can give up a crooked number very quickly. To his credit, he's been very good at mitigating the damage this year other than 1 inning.

His game against the Reds two years ago may be the best game ever pitched by a Royal. He had a complete game shutout where he allowed 1 hit and threw 80 pitches.

Patek was a helluva fielder, and he and Cookie Rojas were as good a DP combination as any in the league.
