Does anybody here really think he is a great guitarist? He does that one little "doo de doo de doo de" riff a lot, I guess.

FAX

Listen to his work on "Estranged".

Not gonna say the best, but the guy got a full arsenal. Love his harmonics

I love it, but this guy picks so much you may just want to skip to 6:25.
Saw him in a club on Bourbon street. His first song, I yelled "little wing" and laughed thinking he couldn't play it LOL.

picking a favorite guitarist is all personal preference, I like Jimi and Page and Vaughn I guess, but it's kinda like picking who's the hottest women ever. Personal preference.

To add to that. Pat Smear played most of the guitar for Nirvana.

Not before In Utero he didnt, as far as Cobain the guitarist i think theres too much emphasis placed on technical ability & not enough on his ability to wrench emotion out of his songs, i couldnt care less that he wasnt capable of excessive, wankoff solos... his playing perfectly conveyed the twisted emotions he sang about. No one knocks impressionist painters because their work isnt photo quality life like.

As far as Hendrix, i have no qualms with him at #1, he was the first truly revolutionary rock player.

No Steve Howe?

Can't believe they left Steve Howe from Yes off the list. Was in band many years ago for about 10 years, and it was a rare guitarist who could hit his licks. Just listen to "Yours is no Disgrace." Or for a real treat youtube his solo on the classical guitar called "The Clap." Pretty impressive stuff.

Not reading the whole thread but no mention of Omar Rodriguez Lopez is criminal.

Woo-hoo, you are in good company. There are four or five of us who are mortified about this!!!! :thumb:

They are STILL my second favorite band after Led Zeppelin. Yes, I'm almost 50 and haven't found anything else I love more.
