I'm obviously a slut for pimping local talent. Evidently this video hit reddit today and started racking up the upvotes. Anyway, this guy plays at our farmer's market all the time, and the harmonica player is a fairly recent graduate of my high school.

Listening to The White Album. It's really incredible how great the newest stereo remasters sound, even on the speakers built into my computer.

NewChief 04-09-2013 10:36 PM

Listened to the new Dawes album today. They've taken a steady downward turn for me. Their first album was just magical. The second was fair. This one blew.

Now listening to the new James Blake album, which I've been waiting to do for a couple of days. Lots of the tracks were already leaked, so I knew what to expect. Still enjoying it. Will have to listen to it a few more times in various frames of mind to really get a good feel for it. Definite ear candy, though, when wearing headphones.

Yea, the production on it is stellar. I've played it for several non-cerebral hip hop fans (down south/pop rap fans) and everyone has said it was awesome.

I was a fan of the late 80s shoegaze genre (Jesus & Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, etc.). I'm reminded of those bands when I listen to Belong by The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. I hadn't heard of this band before hearing a song of theirs in a movie recently. A quick search shows that MoreLemonPledge had this album as his 15th best of 2011. Good choice, MLP.

Yup. Better than the leveler but not as good as Constellations... the horns still seem out of place.
I dig the album though... Not my AOTY though, not even close.

NewChief 06-30-2013 03:23 PM

So now that Deafheaven's album has been out a whole, I'll pose a question to the CP metal fans. Is it as good as the hype, or is the hype caused by the atypical image of Deafheaven (pink album art, cheery album and song titles) causing hype among fans who are not actually metal fans?

This thought crossed my mind after seeing "Sunbather" getting tons of votes for best song of the summer. I mean, if it were a typical metal album cover and title, I don't think people would be saying it was a "summer anthem."

Constellations would be so hard to beat.

But, the songs from R&R that I gave a whirl last night were really good.

Funny to see this as it went on sale yesterday morning. Only 100 were pressed to lime green, 30 wents to the bands and 70 were made available to the public. I was fortunate enough to grab one. Another pressing in standard black is planned for later in the year.

Pretty sure this isn't an official video or anything, but it works.

Yeah, that popped up on my Rhapsody new album queue this morning and got me in the mood for some hip-hop.

Started browsing through this thread while listening and switched over to Tyler, the Creator and haven't went back.

I'm gonna give it a more thorough listen.

The A$AP Ferg album is also streaming on soundcloud, and is very good.

I've been digging on "The Night's Gambit" by Ka as well, which is a little different hip hop, but really cool.

Here's their bandcamp. Lots of stuff up there:

They tour pretty extensively, but they haven't made it out West further than Colorado, afaik. They're all around this area (CO/KS/MO/AR/OK) regularly.

Not sure if anyone has followed the K-Dot controversy over his "King of NY" line, but the ASAP Mob recently showed up on Flex and dropped some freestyle, riffing and freestyling on Kendrick's line. Fun stuff. These guys just seem to really love hanging out together and have a great time doing it. Not sure I've ever heard ASAP Twelvy before, but his spot is freaking badass.

I actually enjoy this IWABO song. I don't know if I've been able to say that in quite a while.

In recent Shawn James news, they were just up in the Lawrence/Wichita area. Look who they ran into:

I interviewed the singer for Chicago's Weekend Nachos this week for a local KC fanzine. Track off their upcoming 4th LP set for Nov.

Kansas City's Sorry Excuse pregame, unfortunately these songs will never see the light of day.

I'm not quite sure what the **** is going on with Arcade Fire; or if I even like it. I think I'll have to listen this one through a few more times.

I dig it. It's a little more derivative than what I expected a new AF track to be. Lots of LCD Soundsystem with some Daft Punk thrown in. They're riding the electro pop wave as well, I guess.

Anyway, I'm a sucker for long songs, so I'm a fan.
