I'm obviously a slut for pimping local talent. Evidently this video hit reddit today and started racking up the upvotes. Anyway, this guy plays at our farmer's market all the time, and the harmonica player is a fairly recent graduate of my high school.

Listening to The White Album. It's really incredible how great the newest stereo remasters sound, even on the speakers built into my computer.

And one from the harmonica player's "main project."

Listened to the new Dawes album today. They've taken a steady downward turn for me. Their first album was just magical. The second was fair. This one blew.
Now listening to the new James Blake album, which I've been waiting to do for a couple of days. Lots of the tracks were already leaked, so I knew what to expect. Still enjoying it. Will have to listen to it a few more times in various frames of mind to really get a good feel for it. Definite ear candy, though, when wearing headphones. |

Prized score from yesterdays haul. Ringworm 1991 Demo. 300 copies were pressed in 2005, A389 released another 700 for Record Store Day yesterday, 350 in color and 350 in black. I'm trading it to my homeboy later today though, but have to jam it.

Southern Lord Beard Metal tour stopped in KC on Weds. I caught Early Graves, Enabler and KC stoners Keef Mountain. I picked up Enabler's new 7" ep. A little melodic for my taste.

Showcasing my range and the compromise that is marriage by attending the Hanni El Khatib show tonight in KC, so I'm listening to some of that right now, eh. I guess there is a teenage 3 piece from St. Joe called Radkey who's opening that has a Ramones/Bad Brains influence, could be interesting.

I was a fan of the late 80s shoegaze genre (Jesus & Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, etc.). I'm reminded of those bands when I listen to Belong by The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. I hadn't heard of this band before hearing a song of theirs in a movie recently. A quick search shows that MoreLemonPledge had this album as his 15th best of 2011. Good choice, MLP.

The Sex Prisoner 2012 s/t 7" might have been the hardest thing I heard last year. Their back in 2013 with a new EP. Easily my favorite of the new wave of Crossed Out influenced PV bands. Only 100 pressed to white.

Brand new Budd Dwyer. If you were to emulsify (note to work emulsify into future band name) my entire music collection, save for my Trojan box sets, this is what would pour out. Brilliant blend.

So now that Deafheaven's album has been out a whole, I'll pose a question to the CP metal fans. Is it as good as the hype, or is the hype caused by the atypical image of Deafheaven (pink album art, cheery album and song titles) causing hype among fans who are not actually metal fans?
This thought crossed my mind after seeing "Sunbather" getting tons of votes for best song of the summer. I mean, if it were a typical metal album cover and title, I don't think people would be saying it was a "summer anthem." |

Not because you didn't enjoy it. Just because you didn't want to burn yourself out on it. That's where I'm at with Shields by Grizzly Bear. I just can't bring myself to stop playing it. |

http://shawnjamessoul.bandcamp.com/ They tour pretty extensively, but they haven't made it out West further than Colorado, afaik. They're all around this area (CO/KS/MO/AR/OK) regularly. |
Not sure if anyone has followed the K-Dot controversy over his "King of NY" line, but the ASAP Mob recently showed up on Flex and dropped some freestyle, riffing and freestyling on Kendrick's line. Fun stuff. These guys just seem to really love hanging out together and have a great time doing it. Not sure I've ever heard ASAP Twelvy before, but his spot is freaking badass.
