It's true, though. It's probably why we are such great fans. A feeling that our sports teams put us on the map to some degree for being a smaller market.

And now we have national attention thanks to Eric Winston. Thank you Mr. Winston for alleviating my insecurity and making me feel "big time". Whitlock should have gotten Carl Peterson to co-write the article. KFTW. Karma for the win. So Hamelin, Indiana? Who knew? Edit: Whit, ya got skillz.

a + b = c

(a) We all wanted Cassel to be replaced
(b) The only way Cassel gets replaced is by injury--thanks to Scott Pioli
(c) We're happy when Cassel gets slightly injured by a tiny hit that Ngata himself said, "... I didn't think it was hard enough to take him out. I thought I hit him right in the ribs"

It's simple math.

CaliforniaChief 10-08-2012 10:51 PM

I've tweeted it to Schefter, Glazer, and Mortenson. I've blasted it out to Facebook.

I've only got a few followers on Twitter, but almost 700 FB friends, so hopefully it spreads.

I've tried posting this on the Chiefs Facebook page twice and they've deleted it both times.

Very Nice article Whitlock!!! very nice!

Inspector 10-09-2012 05:51 AM

Wow, incredible, superb outstanding article Jason. With all the negative attention that idiot Winston has brought to the fans of his (hopefully) soon to be former team, it is great to have a national voice of truth speak out and in such a well done way.

Any BBQ joint in town, your money is no good if I know you're there. PM me dude, serious - your lunch is on me.

BEST.
ARTICLE.
EVER!

Thanks again for your support and being part of our ChiefsPlanet family.

We cheered for the yardage on that play then we stopped and then when we saw Matt was down, stopped and held our breath. When he got up and walked off on his own, we cheered knowing he was going to be ok. Simple as that. Winston jumped to his conclusions only because he knows inside how lousy Cassel is at QB.

ChickenBandit 10-09-2012 01:40 PM

Keep this up

Keep this post up, because the article is down, on Whitlock's FOX page, so basically only Chiefs Fans will find it. Winston is an idiot. Chiefs fans are not.

I just found it on Whitlock's page

chiefscafan 10-09-2012 02:04 PM

I never thought I'd say this I agree totally with Whitlock.

Micjones 10-09-2012 02:53 PM

Every major sport comes with the risk of severe injury.
I've never cheered FOR the injury of an athlete in ANY sport.
And I've been a fan of both the NFL and Pro Boxing for 2.5 decades.

What is it about Whitlock and intellectual dishonesty?

I don't see your point, Mr. Micjones. Can't get a handle on it.

Yep Pretty accurate account of things. It's hard for me because Eric Winston is a friend that I have worked with for years. I want to stick up for him in this case. However, he is wrong to call out 70,000 fans the way he did. I get getting all caught up in the moment & sticking up for your QB, but if you're going to speak to the media, you need to be smart about it - The deal is, Eric Winston is a smart guy, though you wouldn't know it by the way he acted in this case.

Not sure what you mean by that. People cheer for knockouts in boxing, MMA, hockey, etc all the time.

I cheered like a mofo when Dan Henderson knocked Michael Bisping out cold and then supermanned him for good measure.

just sayin

Iowanian 10-09-2012 10:16 PM

It's been a while since I've felt as strongly about an article. A bold move can make an angry fanbase a pretty good friend.

KCchiefs dot com website should have an article at the top that said "Error 404, Quarterback not found"

A man needs a name to repay the debt of this article

Pioli has taken control of your internet service so you can't repost the link. Men in black suits will be at your door any minute now. Hope you cleaned up all the candy wrappers on your floor.

WTF.

It works on Firefox.

Weird.

lcarus 10-09-2012 11:57 PM

I thought Whitlock was going overboard with the "Egoli" stuff a few years ago. Turns out he was right all along. Pioli's ego just won't allow him to admit the mistake of Cassel and correct it.

BigChiefFan 10-10-2012 01:42 AM

One of JW's best articles. I think he encapsulated the basic sentiment of a majority of Chiefs fans. Well done.

This is the DNS thing I was talking about.. it's a screwy error that I have mostly seen with Chrome but occasionally IE as well. Someday when it bugs me enough I'll look into what EXACTLY is going on... but if you reset your router(renew IP), flush your local dns, and renew ip locally... it should clear it. Total pain in the ass.

ROYC75 10-10-2012 04:26 AM

Nice article Jason. Bout time somebody spoke out on behalf of the diehard Chiefs fans in the KC area. Too bad you are not in KC to continue the fight, maybe, just maybe the other Star reporters will grow a pair and be as bold as this article.

I think it was Fax that reference the JACKED UP feature on ESPN where they glorify the hit, laughing, giggling and making noises of celebration, usually of a players that end up being hurt during a devastating hit on the field of play.

Strictly a set of double standards here.

kcxiv 10-10-2012 05:07 AM

Jacked up was removed a few years back because the NFL didnt like them doing that. They dont do that shit anymore.

Still though from when kids learn football they are taught to run over the other guy and hit them as hard as they can to knock them on their ass.

Besides, fans were just cheering that the Matt Cassel era was over, not that the dude got hurt.

htismaqe 10-10-2012 06:54 AM

Jet fans cheered when Brian Cushing went down.

But they're from New York.

Good fans, good fans.

Could it be a proxy issue?

Chrome uses the system Internet settings used by IE.

Firefox has its own proxy settings.

That would explain why it has problems in Chrome/IE but not Firefox.
