it's an easy fix - I realize the recipe was designed for simplicity. However, there are small additions that could make this bread really good. The foundation is there - just needs a little TLC - that's all.

Simply Red 05-07-2013 11:58 PM

I'd be glad to offer up my recommendation should anyone be interested.

Hammock Parties 05-07-2013 11:59 PM

hit us up

i fail to see what the point is though

there's no way to keep the flavors of the ice cream alive

Simply Red 05-08-2013 12:06 AM

depends on what you're after, flavor-wise. They make things like extract that works wonders in baking.

Anyhow. If I were to attempt this:

increase temp by 10 degrees.

butter ONLY to line the pan, skip the flour overcoat, the release won't be QUITE as easily, but it'll release. Ironically it browns faster w/ butter only

increase flour by 1/8th cup

add sugar and an egg to the recipe as well as 4 oz of melted butter

I'd work in cinnamon, if it was the right flavor

Last on the procedure:

Mix softened ice cream, sugar and butter with electric mixer, gradually fold in flour, mixing slowly - careful to not over mix - if u continue w/ the electric mixer here - shift it to 'Lo' setting.

Simply Red 05-08-2013 12:07 AM

I may've missed something - it's really late - but that's about it - i think.

Simply Red 05-08-2013 12:10 AM

sadly i'm thinking 3/4 cup on the sugar - the flour eats the ice cream's density and flavor intensity.

Simply Red 05-08-2013 12:14 AM

look guys - if you do want to do the flour overlay on the pan sides that's fine - here's the thing - go generous on the butter/marg if you do this - this will be fine - if you choose to keep the flour overcoat.

Show us the way Simply. Pinch out a loaf.

Msmith 05-08-2013 07:12 AM

If, as Red said, the flour takes away the density and flavor of the ice cream, then what is the purpose of putting ice cream it this bread? I could just add fruits, nuts and other stuffs to make this bread tasting better.

That does not give you the right to call mine a "turd loaf." Mine is superior to yours.

Now this right here is a fine example of why I love this ****ing lunatic asylum we call ChiefsPlanet...

Yours looks possibly the worst out of all of the posters who attempted this - If you insist I will school you and do it real time. I am going to need my digital camera though, which is at work.

I will dominate you like Vader.

If you do the recipe as written, you'll make shitty bread too.

I said this early on in this thread; beer bread is easy, cheap, and OUT-Fing-STANDING.

Beer
Self-Rising flour
Bake

I can't even taste the chocolate.

It's decent for spreading nutella on. More than regular bread, I guess.

But I'd rather just eat ice cream.

Verdict: Edible, but meh.

I figured that would be the problem. I did it with 2.5 cups of ice cream and wen slightly under on the 1.5 cups of flower. Makes the bread a little bit sweeter without it being too desserty.

I also used this stuff:

Worked pretty well.

These idiots were complaining - the adjustments are minor.

Fire Me Boy! 06-14-2013 04:28 AM

First ice cream bread, now ice cream biscuits.

http://www.cookistry.com/2013/06/ice...gredients.html

Quote:

1 cup ice cream
2 cups (9 ounces) self-rising flour
Butter (for the tops of the biscuits - optional)
Instructions on the blog. Someone make these so I don't have to.

Msmith 06-14-2013 08:05 AM

Someone would pose a fake result to claim how wonderful the biscuit is. Then bunch of us would follow that recipe and come back later and be pissed off.

I may have to make some again... I have a blog post ready to go on ice cream bread, but I didn't take any pics of my last attempt.

Hell no. I wasted enough ice cream last time, never again.

Fire Me Boy! 06-30-2013 10:31 AM

OK, I'm trying this again (either today or later this week). I'm making some additions though. Going with Breyer's Natural Strawberry. I'm gonna add a little sugar and fold in some fresh chopped strawberries.

Chocolate Chips???

Fire Me Boy! 07-21-2013 04:34 PM

Finally got around to this... sugar, fresh strawberries, and I apparently made strawberry ice cream muffins.

Here's my blog post: http://recipenotincluded.com/2013/07...e-cream-bread/

Simply Red 07-21-2013 06:10 PM
