11 inches and still growing here.

ghak99 02-04-2014 07:30 PM

Not much fun out there.

The highway crews can't keep a single lane from drifting over here. I'm going to say a solid 10" so far and it's still dumping out of the sky.

....and half the grocery store shelves are wiped the **** clean. LMAO

Yeah, when I looked at radar around midday, I knew Topeka was gonna get hit near the hardest, overall.

I got off work today, but tomorrow I have to go in, unfortunately. Unless I decide to play hooky.

HonestChieffan 02-04-2014 08:55 PM

Lotta freezing rain here then back to fluffy snow…sucks

greatgooglymoogly 02-04-2014 08:55 PM

 Less than two inches in SW MO. Both storms this week missed us for the most part. No precipitation in the long-range forecast. It's more "Coldmageddon" here.

O.city 02-04-2014 10:45 PM

Bout 10 inches plus here in North KC.

Buehler445 02-04-2014 10:53 PM

We got like 3 inches. Not much moisture in it. It's pretty light.

The moon is out. Going to be a high of 7 tomorrow. Yay!

when I measured 11 it was still snowing. I went out to shovel again 2 hours later and there was 3 more inches on the driveway.

12.9 is the official from Billard airport but we got around 14 here.

Mrs. Radar’s Jeep Liberty gets around very well too.
My Jeep does great in a straight line but turning a corner is a horror show.
That’s the bad thing about putting an automatic positive locking differential in the front axle, it has to have some semblance of traction in order to sense when to unlock and allow one tire to turn faster than the other to go around a turn. With no traction it just stays locked up oblivious to any steering input and its loose snow on top of ice this morning.

Dunit35 02-05-2014 08:52 AM

Only got 4-5 inches here. -23 degrees with the wind chill right now.

My XJ plows through it like it isn't there. I will never own anything other than a Jeep!

I guess it must be the -30 wind chill and the 11tybillion snow days that didn't get used the last 10 years. They must have said "**** it" and taken an extra day.

Liberty's are amazing.

Years ago we test drove several different small SUV's for my wife. The Trailblazer sucked, Explorers were garbage.

The little Jeep Liberty was head and shoulders above both in terms of power and handling the snow and ice.

It was an easy decision. She loves the Liberty and it still runs GREAT.

The only weakness is the power window linkage. I have no idea WTF they were thinking when they designed that POS.

Dartgod 02-05-2014 09:14 AM

I'll be cleaning my driveway for the 3rd time this evening. There was only an additional inch or so on it last night when I went to bed. This morning it had all drifted over and was 7-8 inches deep in some areas.

Thank God for snow blowers!

What, are you under 5' tall? :D

Those things are not made for people who outgrew the toddler stage.

My trail blazer does really well in snow and ice. I don't have big gnarly tires on it either. It's not as good as my pickup (that has a little more aggressive tires on it), but it is better than almost everything else.

EDIT: My WIFE'S Trail Blazer. I need to remember my place in all this.

We traded off a Yukon three years ago for a Buick Enclave. Its a great driver and comfy. But in snow it is a danger. Selling it with only 47000 miles and getting a new Yukon. Wfe can't be without 4wd and Im not buying another small car with traction control bullshit

KCUnited 02-05-2014 10:30 AM

Is there anyone you won't help? I dig out the old couple across from me. I clear out my neighbors drive and walkway when her work takes her out of town and it snows. The guy next to me though, he clears one little spot on his windshield to see out of, makes no attempt to clear a path, gets in his economy sized vehicle and tries to gun his way out to the street and of course gets stuck halfway in his driveway and the street. He does it every time it snows and I refuse to help him.

Is that the terrain type unibody setup?

Wife's trail blazer is full framed and standard 4wd. It has traction control but you can shut it off.

6'3

I drive a Yukon.

The Liberty is small, but my wife is only 5'3. We have taken it up in the mountains quite a bit and it has plenty of room for me (since I always drive ;))

I was dead set on buying a Trailblazer until my wife talked me into test-driving the Liberty. To be honest, I didn't even consider the little Liberty to be an option. I was very surprised. The Liberty was a lot better than the Trailblazer in the snow, and had a lot better acceleration. It was a lot simpler, and simpler = less broken shit.

It might be different now, but 5 years ago it was an easy decision.

NewChief 02-05-2014 11:42 AM

Speaking of cars: my wife recently bought an Acura RDX Turbo with AWD. It's done very, very well in the snow.

No replacement for my old 4Runner, but it's close to Subaru as far as handling the snow.

They don't make trail blazers anymore. Or any small full framed SUV for that matter. Wife's is bottom of the line as far as trim goes. It's pretty damned simple. It doesn't have the v8, but that 4.2 inline 6 (I was like wtf and almost didn't buy it because of the motor) does well. Even when wife thinks she's Andretti.

I hope that bitch lasts for 30 years because if I save every dime, it'll take that long before I can afford a Tahoe.

Last winter I was "help everybody" guy. I live in an apartment complex, so that can turn into quite a few people.

Until some old bird drove straight into a snow drift; and as I was attempting to push her ass out, she couldn't grasp the concept of drive and reverse and nearly ran me the **** over.

Now I'm "help nobody" guy. My next door neighbor is cool, so I'd help him if he had any issue, but he's got a jacked up truck so that's never going to happen.

Went out this morning and saw some poor lady shoveling herself out from the nice two foot drift the snow plow had pushed against the back of the entire row of cars. Hopped in the wife's Sorrento and backed over that lump, cleaned it off and went back inside. She looked on in amazement and most likely realized she should buy something with AWD/4WD and a bit of clearance for times like these.

It will haul 3 little Buehlers for the next 25 years.

We are going to hit a bottleneck on our next kid with the Liberty. My wife just said,"We can buy a new Suburban or Yukon."

Ya, **** that. 50-55k for a car just goes beyond my comprehension. I like my money to make more money instead being put on top of 4 tires.

Right there with you buddy. I'm pretty sure you can tie up 65K if you set your mind to it. It's absurd. We bought that trail blazer a year old with 25K miles off like 19. I bought her a Buick Regal that is quite a bit fancier again a year old with 22K on it and I'm only 22 deep into it.

My poor old pickup is a salvage title with 130K on it, and it gets more miles than both wife's cars combined now that she's not commuting.

God I'm a cheap bastard.

Heh. I was worried about mine. The last time we had enough snow to snowpack the street, my tires were really new. Now, they're well...not. But there must be enough rubber to keep decent enough traction.

It's pretty easy to think you're indestructible in a pickup. But high center that whore and it is A LOT of digging to get it out.
