Daughter and I came in from the west on 70. Took almost two hours to get to the west bottoms (Kemper parking). 40 minute walk to 13th and Grand. Felt terrible for the dozens of kids that were 5-10 rows back. They could not see anything.

Dartgod 11-03-2015 04:41 PM

What a great event. We skipped the rally and headed out after the parade. We kind of screwed up and ended up quite a ways back in the crowd and couldn't see much. We could have had a much better spot earlier. Still, it was awesome and soooo glad I made it.

Parked in the Town Pavilion Parking garage at 08:30 and backed the truck and cars overlooking the parade route. Had a great breakfast at Cosentino's, (LOL, the son and I opted for Sushi!), got a limited-edition Shatto milk container, and walked downtown a bit.

Got back to the vehicles at 10:30, setup the seats, TV, MiFi, and true to form the "Joe Buck Parking Garage" (Town Pavilion Parking Garage) told us we had to hit the streets. LOL, they suck balls. And like I told them, we'll be back, but those rent-a-mall-cops lurking weren't going to stop people manning the rails for long! So we went down to street level waiting for the fun to start.

The fun started at around 12:05, we watched the first few, then migrated back to the truck because, as I predicted, the parking garage security peeps couldn't stop the will of the people and all the rails were properly manned with awesome Royals fans all around.

We finished-out the parade from the top of the garage and had a blast. And had a great time waiting for the crowd to clear.

My God that was awesome! What a wonderful city!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What we've seen in this whole WS run is what makes KC a gem. Some may think it's a "fly-over" city, and that's fine! I'll take this kind of environment over almost anywhere else in America!

For the size city we are (top 40 I think), this is simply an awesome testament to how awesome we are!

I wouldn't bank on it. They were running people off up until the moment the parade started. If they hadn't, cars would have been getting proper ****ed up.

Sweet. I had the younger son on my shoulders until his leg went to sleep, that's when we all migrated up to the vehicles.

Wow, JUST WOW!!! Maybe 30 years has something to do with it, but this city is ****ing awesome...

And while the parking garage was initially monthly parkers (like my group), the people who parked after that, some came from out of town and partied with us (no alcohol!! [well, maybe a little]), were just awesome.

Parked at the zoo at 930. Took just under an hour and a half to get on a bus. Got to Liberty Memorial around noon. MASSIVE crowd all the way up the hill. Could barely see or hear anything. We worked our way to probably 300 yards away and could still barely see. Still well worth it. Rally got done a little after 3, we walked back to the bus pick up spot and they were estimating a 2 hour wait to get on the bus. So we walked up main to the plaza and got picked up and taken back to the zoo. When we got there, maybe a 1/4th of the cars were gone.

It was funny, we called it whack-a-mole. We'd see a section clear, then when the mall-cop moved on, like a school of fish clearing for a big fish, they all came back. Hey, once it started we claimed our spots by our vehicles, and all was well.

It's cool, I don't think it gets dirty very often, if ever.

Parked at Sunfresh just next to Westport walked to the Liberty Memorial, got there about noon, set down on the steps and waited 2 1/2 hours couldn't hear a thing. watching the replay on TV. Hear there as 800,000 down there today. And we were part of it. Next year they need more speakers. :)

KevB 11-03-2015 05:50 PM

Parked in the River Market area around 8:30, walked up to 9th and Grand and got a front row spot on the rail with the family. Had a great time and got out of there somewhat painlessly. Got home and watched the rally. A great day my kids won't forget.

Bearcat 11-03-2015 05:57 PM

Walked around some before the parade, watched it from the big screens at the rally... getting out wasn't horrible, but had to give it about an hour after leaving the rally.

We didn't make it. Driving from the south on I-35 around 9:30 the traffic from Southwest BLVD was slowed all the way back to 75th street. There was just no way we were going to make it and get anywhere near anything so just we got in the left lane and turned around when we could.

We saw maybe three or four buses the whole way who were coming from the Olathe shuttle area. There were tons of people there who didn't get to go because there just wasn't enough shuttles. Apparently people who got there at 9 am still didn't make it to the parade. Also, the shuttles were stuck in the same mess of traffic as everyone else so even the few who got on would have had basically no benefit to taking it because there was no shuttle lane.

bummer, but understand...71 north was backed up at the triangle early on.

I heard about people not even making it down there on the shuttle after waiting.

I got down "close" at 0900 at it was already jammed on the streets. The odd thing was so many were driving into it the whole walk.

Just got back to Wichita. We got to Kemper around 9:45am, parked and the shuttle line was around the building so we just walked. Found a spot at 20th and Grand about 10 people back and got a glimpse and a few good pictures of most of the guys. Couldn't get over to Union Station after the parade, but made it back to the car just in time to listen to the rally on the way home. Totally worth it.

Did people really think they could just like show up? Ignorant

Sassy Squatch 11-03-2015 07:56 PM

Never use the shuttle system again in situations like this. Leaving was a disaster of epic proportions. I was expecting it to be bad but goddamn. Having 4 different locations all pick up at 16th and Wyandotte. Another 4 at Main and 27th. No way they could handle it all but at least have a goddamn cohesive plan.

I went and I will put this on my list to never do again unless I stay in KC the night before. Got to the Triangle around 9am and it was already backed up and saw a gigantic line at the Red Bridge shuttle and I thought there is no way I will get close to downtown so I decided to park there and take the shuttle in. Probably should have drove in because the shuttle was a cluster**** and didn't get downtown until noon and it took 4 hours to get back to Red Bridge road.

Then you couldn't really see anything or hear anything so it was basically a complete waste of time and I would have rather watched it at home.

Fansy the Famous Bard 11-03-2015 08:10 PM

The shuttle sucked, but the parade was awesome

Dayze 11-03-2015 08:10 PM

My hats off to those who went. I literally live right off I-35 southbound at 95th. I can see north and southbound traffic on the highway from my living room. I noticed it started slowing to crazy "there's a massive car pileup crash" type speeds northbound lanes at probably 745am. By 9it was worse. By like 1030 it was thinning out but not by much.

Incredible. I knew it would be nuts but not until I saw pictures on CPand on the news did I full comprehend it.

Props to you guys.

Obviously organizers had no way of predicting that half the ****ing city would show up and thought for with that crowd, it went relatively smoothly. The big thing is how cordial literally everyone was down there. Freaking way to represent KC. I have no complaints on how anything went down. If people just expected to roll up into downtown at 1130, that's on them. I thought I was fine getting to the zoo at 930, and when it happens again next year I'm getting a room downtown and finding a spot at 7.

This

Only thing that torqued me a little was the group in line at the zoo front of us that went from 2to over 20 and they were calling more people telling them to hurry up and get there so they didn't have to wait in line,so I just took my group and walked around them and smiled on the way by.

Just heard from my dad in California. Said it was all over the national news. Not so much about the parade itself but how many people just packed the whole city. Way to make us proud, KC!

It's not even about predicting, there's just no way you're going to get that many people downtown on a weekday morning without some delays... the only thing might be starting the shuttles 3 hours earlier.

I grabbed a hotel room at 1am Monday morning... offered the other bed to a few people, but guess I either smell or people weren't thinking how difficult it would be to get in and out (or both, it could be both). One coworker said she was going to head there around 11, but this morning a few FB pics of the Metro North shuttles convinced her to leave around 9 or 9:30. I was able to get a few hours or work done this morning, wander around some and get a decent spot at Union Station at 10:30.... a woman next to me said they had been there since 8.

Dude, it's a day you'll never forget.

I love days like that and truly wished I could have attended.

Only thing that torqued me a little was the group in line at the zoo front of us that went from 2to over 20 and they were calling more people telling them to hurry up and get there so they didn't have to wait in line,so I just took my group and walked around them and smiled on the way by.

Oh, I got torqued when the wannabe cops in the parking garage sent us to the sidewalk thinking they were going to keep the crowd from lining the rails of the parking garage. Typical Town Pavilion parking garage bullshit. Other than that, the day was wonderful. Great memory for sure.

A McCloud clan lived near us in Roeland Park for awhile when I was growing up. Just wondering if you might be related.

Sorry for mucking this thread up.

Parade and rally was awesome. WAY more folks in attendance than in 85. Awesome crowd. Kinda makes one proud to be a Kansas Citian!
