Definition of a crying shame - 20,000 Steeler fans who paid $1000 per ticket can't get to Arrowhead Stadium because of an ice storm. Mother Nature 1, Pittsburgh Steelers 0

I'm new here. Would it do any good to put tire chains on my rear tires?

This game is way too far out to make an accurate prediction with a system like that. I feel like we're practically in Butterfly Effect territory.

No-chains won't help much-the main roads are usually in pretty good shape. |

So, how low do you all think prices will go because of the weather?

The Claynus Weather Report:
|
Just got this e-mail from American Airlines...
A potential ice storm, which is forecast to begin this weekend, may affect your upcoming travel plans. We are currently offering additional flexibility that may allow you to change your travel plans without a fee. Visit aa.com/travelalerts for details on the affected cities and travel dates. If I can't make it there or get routed to another airport, that'll suck. No matter what, not selling the tickets. We're all or none. Even if that means watching the game in the Little Rock airport with $800 worth of tickets in our pockets... |

This is the latest GFS model with total ice accumulations up to noon on Sunday. It's forecasting between 0.25"-0.35" up to that time. That would be a nuisance that will affect traveling, but not be catastrophic. Most of the freezing rain is forecasted to fall between late in the evening on Friday through Saturday.
|
I have the best job. My producer, a packer fan, saw the forecast and said "you should move your ticket up to beat the storm. Worry about getting back out later. The important part is getting to the game!"
:) She gets me. |

Cloudy, with a low around 28. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Sunday Freezing rain likely before 1pm, then rain showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 38. Chance of precipitation is 70%. |
I'm thinking of taking the train up instead of driving. Probably have a better chance of making it, I won't be taking a chance of wrecking my car and I'll have food and a place to piss if i get stranded.
I've taken the train to KC once, a long time ago, so I don't know if this is a great idea, or a terrible one. |

We took the train from Sedalia to st louis a couple months ago just for fun. Little one loves trains. |

Lots of days to go, but at it stands it is not looking good. I for one thinks this blows, but I will be out there regardless. Just MAJOR hassles likely getting in and out of complex. Hopefully this does not put a wet blanket on the attendance. In the 90s would not of mattered, but today's fans are far more fickle IMO.

I'll pay an extra $70 to not end up in a ditch, or stranded on some remote stretch of I-70 alone. |

I took it a year ago, Downtown to Lee's Summit 1W and it was like $45, IIRC. Flying is only $99, but my parents live so far SKC that I can fly KCI to StL, retrieve my car and drive home and get there practically before they do. |

Too late of notice to fly, Southwest wants damn near $500 RT - and if it gets shitty, air travel is certainly ****ed. |
Global cooling
Chill'n like a villain on penicillin

I would love to take a train but not an option from Joplin area.
|
I've been Googling the shit out of "Amtrak Ice Storm".
Sounds like luck of the draw. Still better than getting stranded on I-70 alone. |
BTW, this is a ridiculous amount of effort for a ****ing football game.
You mother****ers that question my fandom can suck TigerUppercut's uncle's cock. LMAO |

We're in Hermann. There are some trees. Hey, the Missouri River! Shitter's full. Stranded in Sedalia. |
Here's to all trying to make it to the game...GL. :toast: And please be safe.

|
It's looking like a non event at this point. It will all change three more times.
|
Gary Lezak said it should be okay, new data at 10! I bought a 40 pound bag of ice melt on the way home, he's probably right.

I think the projected temps are close enough to 32 F that the normal treatment of the highways and primary roads will keep them ice-free not affect travel.
The December 17th ice storm was not much total precip but near zero temps so the roads were too icy and everybody in KC needed to stay home. I think the biggest threat is enough total freezing rain to cause downed tree branches and power lines. |
Looking like it might be enough to get out out of work for a few days with the girls.

****. From the NWS.

It seems like the main event is being projected as more Saturday and Sunday now as opposed to Friday and Saturday.

I'm from Missourah... Show Me! Seen way too many predictions of doom and gloom from the weather center and then nothing. Also seen way too many predictions go the other way.
Since when have weather men ever been able to predict the weather? |

Last night Lezak said he wasn't expecting any major event. Some slicks spots at worse.
Said it would be just rain on and off during the game. |

I always get a kick out of the "Weathermen never get anything right" crowd. If your expectation is 100% accuracy a week out, your chances of being let down are high. They're really high. Take the info for what its worth, and plan accordingly. That's all a weather forecast is good for. I tend to agree that when Lezak starts getting a weather boner, its time to pay attention. He normally has a pretty level head when forecasting, but its impossible not to notice the guy is a huge weather nerd, so he gets excited when events happen.

I knew he wouldn't let us down.......

We cancelled our overtime for work this weekend. Supposed to be nasty. I would stay off the roads and airport unless you want to have a shitty weekend going into money's busy work week.
