Cowboys run a 4-3. He's a 3-4 ILB

I don't see that he has a defined role….what will he play?

Just MLB?

Is he any good at coverage?

9 passes defensed in 4 seasons is a joke

Why did they draft him then?

Either they drafted him and played him out of position of the Chiefs will be

Seems logical

Yeah.

Kind of like we did with Tamba Hali.

Would love to see us find a way to trade Sorensen for a bag of peanuts.

Hell, we once got a 5th rounder out of Kelcie McCray. You never know if there's a team dumb enough out there to bite.

He's still over the middle. He's still a LB. He'll have very similar responsibilities.

He's not making a drastic change like switching from a 3 point stance to OLB in a 3-4 who's now expected to help cover.

This is dumb because it would be like saying playing our new slot corner outside is "playing him out of position."

And you're almost all going ga ga over this move when I bet most of you hadn't heard of this guy until this morning..

I guess you're all just experts and he will have a HOF career in KC

My bad...

JakeF 03-13-2018 01:29 PM

Chase and tackle ILB ala Donnie Edwards?

Best22 03-13-2018 01:29 PM

Funny. Some people hear he's an "OLB" and think he should be getting more sacks

A 4-3 OLB is not the same as a 3-4 OLB

4-3 OLB translates to a 3-4 ILB

pugsnotdrugs19 03-13-2018 01:30 PM

AssEater—not sure what the confusion is about.

An OLB in Dallas’ scheme is like an ILB in our scheme. They are off ball linebackers. Not pass rushers.

It's not confusion

What does he do at an elite level that is worth that much per season??

That is my question

If you say he's an elite run stopper I just think that is BS

JakeF 03-13-2018 01:31 PM

Are we really going to keep Dee Ford?

BleedingRed 03-13-2018 01:35 PM

To the people saying Hitchens is a OLB you are ****ing reeruned......... Hitchens has played MLB for last two seasons with Sean Lee at WLB.

Is 9M a year elite pay for ILB? I don't really know. I don't know much about this player either. I do my best to avoid Cowboy games.

Mecca 03-13-2018 01:42 PM

If you listen to the people talk about this signing, he was the top available ILB/4-3 styled LB available in FA this year.

After him it's guys like Zach Brown.

pugsnotdrugs19 03-13-2018 01:42 PM

Not only is he an apparently great run stopper, but he has the fluid athleticism that is needed at WILB in today’s NFL. Can go sideline to sideline and cover.

Yes, he has good to great coverage skills to. Which as someone noted, will help keep J. Houston from dropping back.

Mecca 03-13-2018 01:43 PM

It's a good fit and it saves having to use a high pick on the spot as it was a glaring hole.

Perfect comment from someone named asseater.

You're right, though... we don't need to improve the run defense. Because that's not how we've gotten completely ****ed in the playoffs.

Mecca 03-13-2018 02:49 PM

Hey look Brett Veach values the MLB position a lot more than Dorsey did, as this and Ragland moves show that.

Also saying "what has this guy done" I think it's better to pay a dude that is 25 with good tape than a guy that is 30 with good stats.

Randallflagg 03-13-2018 02:52 PM

The only thing that bothers me about this signing isn't Hitchens - It's Bob Sutton. He'll have this kid dropping back 25 yards in coverage......

saphojunkie 03-13-2018 02:53 PM

Maybe don't compare him to Tamba Hali switching positions. If only there were a ring of honor linebacker we drafted who also went from 4-3 ILB to 3-4 will...

Oh that's right. Derrick Johnson did that.

Chiefnj2 03-13-2018 02:58 PM

The general consensus that I saw on Cowboy boards were that he was a good 2 down ILB, but not worth 9 million.

I've read a lot of talk about him being a 3 down LB. I wonder why the difference in opinion.

ToxSocks 03-13-2018 02:59 PM

Just looking at the videos he looks like a natural at the position. It'll be fun watching the LB corps develop.

I'm not done with Dee Ford yet, man. I have't given up on the Dee Ford first step dream.

He needs to stay healthy. I'm confident in his ability and if he can stay healthy then this defense will look a lot better in '18.

Because in general, fans are stupid.

I mean, people here have already dismissed Watkins due to boxscores.

I mean, people here have already dismissed Watkins due to boxscores.

This.

37 targets, 0 TD’s

He’s a 3 down LB.

I've read a lot of talk about him being a 3 down LB. I wonder why the difference in opinion.

Because Cowboys fans are telling themselves they wouldn't pay 9Mil per. That's fine, but again he was in a shitty defense. (Scheme not overall)

Man, I'm just freaking floored... woke up to the news of Watkins, and a couple hours later here comes Hitchens

A receiver going 6'1 210 who runs about a half step behind Reek, and a 3 down STUD ILB to toughen up the middle... and Veach is still gunning for a corner AND a nose?

Holy balls, if he pulls all that off, the draft becomes a piece of cake... and this team becomes one that goes deep in the postseason

Same here! I fully expect to wake up tomorrow to read that Veach has signed a DT and a CB.....

Probably because with Sean Lee, Hitchens usually sat in long yardage situations. So with Dallas most of the games he was used as a 2 down LB.

I love the signing but until we improve our DL to some extent Reggie and Anthony will be somewhat limited. You can't have offensive linemen getting to the 2nd level continuously and expect these guys to make plays. You know how this game is played:shrug:

All defenses have holes.

Jaylon Smith IMHO won't 'be all that' either. They will regret not signing Hitchens for sure.

Defense looks much better with Ford out there, even if he isn’t racking up sacks.

I never get excited over free agents. They are almost always overpayed compared for their production.

Wow you must be fun at parties.

Who cares what they are paid as long as the cap is right?

Any idea what we paid Priest Holmes? Marcus Allen? Joe Montana?

Me either.

Those guys won a shitload of rings here.

Both are solid acquisitions. Good on KC!

Comment from a friend of mine who is a Dallas fan:

"He'll be very difficult to replace. If you gave me the choice between keeping him or Dez, I'd take Hitch."
