Eichel gives Vegas a little something extra.... skill goals.

There aren't a lot of hits in hockey that leave me in the fetal position, but Point going head first into the boards like that... JFC.

Lighting use it as an excuse to cross check Reilly in the back back while he's down, and have Stamkos initiate a fight against an unwilling Matthews. Point was full of shit. He was back for his next shift. |

The Avalanche looked great last night... their passing was video-game level of knowing where your teammates are at, and a lot of fun seeing the big guns show up big. Very impressive and really fun to watch.
And hockey can be such a bitch.... Knights dominating, then have to go to OT. Leafs didn't look up to the task, but force OT and win. Avalanche look unstoppable for 15+ minutes and then the Kraken make a couple plays and it's 3-3. |
Great OT comeback win by the Oilers tonight to tie the series. Exciting game.

4 games so far, 3 have gone to OT. We'll see if the Kings can flush this one quickly and steal one more in Edmonton. It's a big ask, but I think LA is underrated. At least I hope so. |

I want to watch McDavid for as long as possible and would love another Avalanche/Oilers WCF... but, I wouldn't be sad if Kane had an early exit, as he's kind of a clown (and they take a lot of dumb penalties in general). I was watching this series at 6:30am every other morning last week, and about halfway through game 4 right now. The Avalanche were nice enough to schedule their games on the night before non-workout mornings this week, so they'll get the 6:30am time slot tomorrow, Thursday, and Saturday. |
Weird.
Avalanche's Valeri Nichushkin out for personal reasons DENVER — Colorado Avalanche forward Valeri Nichushkin has left the team for personal reasons, according to the Avalanche. Nichushkin last played April 20, helping Colorado tie the series against the Seattle Kraken in a 3-2 win. He was a scratch for Game 3 in Seattle, which Colorado won 6-4. Before Game 3, Colorado head coach Jared Bednar said at a news conference that Nichushkin was taking a "maintenance day." On Sunday, he clarified what had happened when asked by a reporter. "That's the information I had at the time," Bednar said. "It was a maintenance day, and then he left for personal reasons. If he was around or could be around, then he would be available to play." |
NJ/NYR game is off to a wild start.

NYR look discombobulated. Passes are way off in their own zone. They look like they all need to get their eyes checked.

Let's go BABY!!!!!
My little baby devils were not ready for playoff hockey for the first 2 games. They seemed to have figured it out and I still don't think they have played to their potential. Man this Devils team combined with the Chiefs, what a decade to come. |
Toronto putting on a fine finish...
|
Damn, Leafs.

What a comeback by the Leafs

Leafs are probably going all the way.

Man, I miss Pietrangelo.
Pretty goal by LVK. |
LV is actually pretty good.

Mikko!! Tie game!
|
These are some good games.
|
That was a pretty intense period.
Go Avs. Finish this! |
Womp, womp. Guess it wasn't the worst thing to miss the first 9 minutes of that game, but would be nice if the NHL wasn't so freakin' stupid and would choose the 7/10 double header instead of 7:30/10.
The Kraken were everywhere, they were really buzzing most of the game. |
So Makar will have a hearing today for the hit on McCann. I'm not entirely surprised, but I wonder how many times a play 1) wasn't been called a penalty initially, 2) was elevated to a major after the refs talk about it, 3) was reduced to a minor after review, and 4) the player gets suspended for it.
It'll be brutal if he's suspended, but I guess we'll see. From what I can tell watching the replay, Makar (and the refs) thought the puck was still in play while McCann knew it was out. The hit itself wasn't that bad, but McCann wasn't ready to defend himself. It's absolutely, 100% interference, but I'll be a little frustrated if it turns into a suspension. But whatever. It's just the norm this year for the Avs to be missing half of their best players. |
Quote:
Makar isn't a dirty player. Makar screwed up. Yet, apparently some Avs fans are dying on the hill that it was a clean hit and so on and so forth... I missed the hit and watched it later (thanks Leafs!), but thought it was going to be worse, for as long as they were talking about it. Sucks McCann got hurt, but yeah would be a bit extreme if they suspended him for it... sadly, wouldn't be all that surprising given how inconsistent they are every season. |
Suspended one game.

I still just don't understand how it was reduced to a minor in the first place. |

Doesn't seem like a suspension is warranted to me, but I reckon it is what it is.
|
At full speed it looked like a pretty nasty hit. In replay, it didn't look nearly as bad; more just Makar didn't know the play was over, and I doubt he meant to injure anyone. Tbh, I'm a little surprised he got a suspension. I thought maybe a fine.

Breathing room there. Tied up. Let's hope this gives them some momentum. Avs playing flat.

****ing horseshit. MacKinnon absolutely deserved a call, and it resulted in a goal at the other end. Yuck.
|
Lack of Makar and Nichushkin is pretty evident tonight. Yikes. Nobody stepping up....
|
This is a great game
|
Wow. THat was some of the best hockey I've ever seen.

Poop.

I wasn't exactly giddy to get up this morning and watch (and then to see it missed the first ~13 minutes), and while it's great YoutubeTV records the entire event (once it starts on that channel :cuss: ) and not just a start/end time, it takes out some of the drama towards the end seeing the recording is only 2 hours long and unless the Avalanche pulled off the miracle of 3 goals to win it in regulation, there wasn't going to be any OT. Hopefully with Makar back at least, they'll have some urgency Friday night. I guess there's still no details around Nichushkin's absence. |
Release the Kraken!!
|
Nichushkin and his 8 year deal going AWOL with the playoffs on the line might be the straw that finally breaks the Avs' back when you throw that in with all the other guys out.
Hopefully he's okay and some of the wilder rumors going around aren't true. |
Quote:
But agreed on him being just one too many guys gone. If you look at last year's team, we're essentially down an entire 2nd line (Kadri, Nichushkin, and Burakovsky). Adding Rodrigues is fine, but he would have been a 3rd liner last year. And everyone else we added are 3rd liners at best and realistically would have been fighting for ice time last year. We're just getting nothing from our depth at all. We're having to overwork MacKinnon and Rantanen as a result, and they're already starting to look tired. Having Makar back will help a little, but it's pretty clear that winning it all again will require a shit ton of things to go our way, and that has absolutely not been the trend this season. At this point, I'm hoping for the best but resigned that this probably just isn't our year. At least if we go down, it'll be the Kraken, who are a hard team to hate. |
And Landeskog.
They never really addressed the 2C thing, but I'm sure had some confidence Landeskog would make it back... and him + Nichushkin right now would make a huge difference. |

But yes. Huge losses all around. |

Safe to say the Devils got their shit together after those first two games.

I'm not shocked they figured it out. I am shocked they have become the more physical, defensively stubborn team. Also been saying Schmid deserved more time all year. Regardless of result the only thing I was worried about with this talented young group for the future was if they could handle playoff style hockey. I just hate the Rangers so much. Good luck to the Avs. Took me 22 years to get over it but I'm finally there. |
