Eichel gives Vegas a little something extra.... skill goals.

Yeah, I paused it at 4-2 and then resumed to see the Jets' PP goal and then goal with the extra attacker.... they had like 12 shots at one point in the 3rd and really didn't look up to the task, and then may have doubled it by the end of regulation.

mlyonsd 04-22-2023 05:53 PM

Oops giveaway.

Own-goaled it in on a delayed penalty in the 2nd OT...

League finals, Game 3, series tied at 1-1

Kiekko-Espoo (home team) was down 0-2 when there was 5 minutes left in the 3rd. First they scored at 55:10, and then tied the game at 57:35 to bring it to Overtime

Just when they are about to get chance to close out the game in 2nd overtime, this happens.

Normal hit by Reilly. Point lost an edge going into the boards. That's on Point's, not Reilly.
Lighting use it as an excuse to cross check Reilly in the back back while he's down, and have Stamkos initiate a fight against an unwilling Matthews.

Point was full of shit. He was back for his next shift.

If you mean he was full of shit like faking, that seems pretty doubtful, but I agree it was just an unfortunate hockey play... and next shift was like 15 minutes later, heh.

The Avalanche looked great last night... their passing was video-game level of knowing where your teammates are at, and a lot of fun seeing the big guns show up big. Very impressive and really fun to watch.

And hockey can be such a bitch....
Knights dominating, then have to go to OT.
Leafs didn't look up to the task, but force OT and win.
Avalanche look unstoppable for 15+ minutes and then the Kraken make a couple plays and it's 3-3.

Fish 04-23-2023 10:31 PM

It's a huge swing in the series. Man, we had a chance to really put their backs against the wall and didn't get it done.

4 games so far, 3 have gone to OT.

We'll see if the Kings can flush this one quickly and steal one more in Edmonton. It's a big ask, but I think LA is underrated. At least I hope so.

They've given the Oilers all they can handle two postseasons in a row... not much for style points (seems like all but one or two goals have been within a foot of the crease), but can't argue with the results (and of course they have their own 40-goal scorer and the ageless Kopitar).

I want to watch McDavid for as long as possible and would love another Avalanche/Oilers WCF... but, I wouldn't be sad if Kane had an early exit, as he's kind of a clown (and they take a lot of dumb penalties in general).

I was watching this series at 6:30am every other morning last week, and about halfway through game 4 right now.

The Avalanche were nice enough to schedule their games on the night before non-workout mornings this week, so they'll get the 6:30am time slot tomorrow, Thursday, and Saturday.

Fish 04-24-2023 05:01 PM

Weird.

Avalanche's Valeri Nichushkin out for personal reasons

DENVER — Colorado Avalanche forward Valeri Nichushkin has left the team for personal reasons, according to the Avalanche.

Nichushkin last played April 20, helping Colorado tie the series against the Seattle Kraken in a 3-2 win. He was a scratch for Game 3 in Seattle, which Colorado won 6-4.

Before Game 3, Colorado head coach Jared Bednar said at a news conference that Nichushkin was taking a "maintenance day." On Sunday, he clarified what had happened when asked by a reporter.

"That's the information I had at the time," Bednar said. "It was a maintenance day, and then he left for personal reasons. If he was around or could be around, then he would be available to play."

I must have glossed over the 5-4 part earlier and thought it would be a 4-3 OT win... got a little dicey with the 4th goal and then Kings PP right after that.

Megatron96 04-24-2023 07:23 PM

NYR look discombobulated. Passes are way off in their own zone. They look like they all need to get their eyes checked.

Womp, womp. Guess it wasn't the worst thing to miss the first 9 minutes of that game, but would be nice if the NHL wasn't so freakin' stupid and would choose the 7/10 double header instead of 7:30/10.

The Kraken were everywhere, they were really buzzing most of the game.

DaFace 04-25-2023 08:43 AM

So Makar will have a hearing today for the hit on McCann. I'm not entirely surprised, but I wonder how many times a play 1) wasn't been called a penalty initially, 2) was elevated to a major after the refs talk about it, 3) was reduced to a minor after review, and 4) the player gets suspended for it.

It'll be brutal if he's suspended, but I guess we'll see. From what I can tell watching the replay, Makar (and the refs) thought the puck was still in play while McCann knew it was out. The hit itself wasn't that bad, but McCann wasn't ready to defend himself. It's absolutely, 100% interference, but I'll be a little frustrated if it turns into a suspension.

But whatever. It's just the norm this year for the Avs to be missing half of their best players.

The drama is nuts, people are so hyper sensitive over shit like that.

Makar isn't a dirty player. Makar screwed up.

Yet, apparently some Avs fans are dying on the hill that it was a clean hit and so on and so forth... I missed the hit and watched it later (thanks Leafs!), but thought it was going to be worse, for as long as they were talking about it.

Sucks McCann got hurt, but yeah would be a bit extreme if they suspended him for it... sadly, wouldn't be all that surprising given how inconsistent they are every season.

I'm not gonna complain too much. It was definitely an illegal hit that caused an injury.

I still just don't understand how it was reduced to a minor in the first place.

Seems silly, but given the injury, I get it. Well, as much as anyone can get it when it comes to the complete lack of consistency.

No head shot or hit from behind is probably why, the league maybe view him as a defenceless player with the puck out if play for that long not expecting to be hit . technically it’s just interference by rule but I think they are starting to crack down on possible intent to injure on this types of plays , running guys not expecting to get hit for only a 2 min doesn’t seem like enough it could be exploited to injure guys, not saying it was Makars intent.

Old Dog 04-25-2023 02:13 PM

Doesn't seem like a suspension is warranted to me, but I reckon it is what it is.

Megatron96 04-25-2023 02:16 PM

At full speed it looked like a pretty nasty hit. In replay, it didn't look nearly as bad; more just Makar didn't know the play was over, and I doubt he meant to injure anyone. Tbh, I'm a little surprised he got a suspension. I thought maybe a fine.

For better or worse, the NHL takes injuries into consideration when handing out suspensions. If McCann wasn't injured, I seriously doubt there was even a penalty on the play. But since he was, it is what it is.

Like I said, it looked pretty rough at full speed. And the injury made everything look worse.

Yeah, only two games on all night and it has to be a double header with zero time in between games. :cuss: Not sure I've caught the beginning of any game besides the one I stayed up for over last weekend that started on TruTV..... not that it matters a whole helluva lot, since the Avalanche haven't gotten into gear until they're down a goal or two (if at all).

I wasn't exactly giddy to get up this morning and watch (and then to see it missed the first ~13 minutes), and while it's great YoutubeTV records the entire event (once it starts on that channel :cuss: ) and not just a start/end time, it takes out some of the drama towards the end seeing the recording is only 2 hours long and unless the Avalanche pulled off the miracle of 3 goals to win it in regulation, there wasn't going to be any OT.

Hopefully with Makar back at least, they'll have some urgency Friday night. I guess there's still no details around Nichushkin's absence.

Nichushkin and his 8 year deal going AWOL with the playoffs on the line might be the straw that finally breaks the Avs' back when you throw that in with all the other guys out.

Hopefully he's okay and some of the wilder rumors going around aren't true.

Yeah, I refuse to pay attention to any of the rumors. Bednar has only said that 1) it's personal, 2) it's not disciplinary, and 3) it's not a legal issue, so that pretty much rules out most of the rumors. Until there's something concrete, I'm gonna assume no one has a clue.

But agreed on him being just one too many guys gone. If you look at last year's team, we're essentially down an entire 2nd line (Kadri, Nichushkin, and Burakovsky). Adding Rodrigues is fine, but he would have been a 3rd liner last year. And everyone else we added are 3rd liners at best and realistically would have been fighting for ice time last year.

We're just getting nothing from our depth at all. We're having to overwork MacKinnon and Rantanen as a result, and they're already starting to look tired. Having Makar back will help a little, but it's pretty clear that winning it all again will require a shit ton of things to go our way, and that has absolutely not been the trend this season.

At this point, I'm hoping for the best but resigned that this probably just isn't our year. At least if we go down, it'll be the Kraken, who are a hard team to hate.

Bearcat 04-27-2023 12:28 PM

And Landeskog.

They never really addressed the 2C thing, but I'm sure had some confidence Landeskog would make it back... and him + Nichushkin right now would make a huge difference.

Safe to say the Devils got their shit together after those first two games.

And the Rangers can't score goals anymore despite all that big name firepower.

First game where they looked like themselves. I always feared a bad start since our 3 biggest young forwards are not big on contact and the team likes scoring off the rush and driving play up the middle. But Nico has grown the **** up.

I'm not shocked they figured it out. I am shocked they have become the more physical, defensively stubborn team. Also been saying Schmid deserved more time all year.

Regardless of result the only thing I was worried about with this talented young group for the future was if they could handle playoff style hockey. I just hate the Rangers so much.

Good luck to the Avs. Took me 22 years to get over it but I'm finally there.

Yeah, they've been playing with fire going down multiple goals against the best shutdown team in the league over the past few years. And I think they've given up a goal within a minute or two of scoring like 3 or 5 times by now (or it feels like it, at least).

Maybe use some of that final-2-minutes energy in the first 58.
