Yeah i wasn't trying to imply that I want him out, I was a freshman in 2003 and was there for 2008 so I'm fine with him staying until he decides to retire whenever that might be, but the vibes seem weird and I can see a contingent of fans getting restless

Sorry about that.

Lots of emotion, and fist pumping, and good in spurts, but overall pretty lackluster.

18-7-3-3 for Darryn Peterson.

McDonald’s AA MVP.

This season is going to be like that episode of Fresh Prince when Will and Carlton were on the basketball team.

Hopefully, Elmarko doesn’t wrestle the game winning shot away from Darryn and air ball it.

For money.

Also, Udeh isn’t particularly good (and certainly not even close to as good as Dickinson). I would hope we could do better for a big.

Kiimo 04-02-2025 08:30 AM

I would hope so too but at this point he's the best big in the portal other than the one we just lost who could still come back

I think it's to the point where as long as the 5 can catch lobs, rebound and play some above average defense I'm okay with them.

I feel like with the last two portal classes (minus HD) have been awful.

I just want serviceable.

I'm in shambles.

Because Flory presumably has a distaste of this coach/program for playing KJ Adams over him all season and doesn't trust this coach/program.

He's probably going to be very expensive, along with a big risk. I don't think they should invest a lot of money in a risk for the Peterson year. Especially since they already have two other expected contributors who are coming back from injury.

Well, I guess Kentucky did the same thing and ended up making it further in the tournament.

On one hand, outside of Flory, a clean slate sounds great compared to the past couple seasons.

OTOH, I have a feeling when the season starts, it'll be like watching preseason football... exciting for a few minutes because CBB is back, before realizing you don't really care about any of the players getting significant minutes because they may not even be on the team very long.

Blaming Bill for players transferring/testing the waters is a little ridiculous. Half the players in the country are in the transfer portal and there will be more to come. Agents are trying to get everybody to test the waters and hunt for a bigger bag.

He has a generational talent coming next year, plus another top 20ish recruit. I'd say that's a decent start to the class.

The last few years, it was well beyond this point before they'd signed any transfers. I don't think it's time to panic yet.

By all accounts, Bidunga's camp was fully aware that he was raw and needed a few years to develop. They didn't expect major minutes, especially on a roster with Dickinson. Bill actually did him a big favor by giving him minutes at the 4, which he's not at all suited for.

Why is Bill to blame?

ROYC75 04-04-2025 10:50 AM

Flory happy -> Flory transfers
Flory happy -> Flory stays

Flory unhappy-> Flory transfers
Flory unhappy-> Flory stays

Pretty simple to make a guess at the chances of each of those outcomes, and why you might want to keep him happy, considering he's the one person who could play a significant role next season... and on top of that, knowing that group of seniors wasn't going to win shit, much less make it out of the first weekend.

Don't want the players driving the bus, he could transfer anyway, etc etc... but coaches have less leverage than ever when it comes to doing things they've always done before and not adjusting on the fly.

Mr. Plow 04-04-2025 12:30 PM

Except it's not that simple. Self also has to keep all of his handlers and his agent happy. And even if they're all content, the player might transfer anyway because somebody else lures him with a bigger bag, or he wants to be closer to home, etc.

Self's job is to try to win games. Not to bend over backwards to meet every demand of every recruit...who might turn around and bail anyway. Besides, he DID meet their expectations. If those expectations change retroactively, that's not Self's fault. Bidunga did nothing this season to earn significantly more minutes, especially down the stretch.

Half the players in the country are in the portal and plenty more will follow. Did all their coaches fail them?

I apologize for not accepting your assumptions as fact and proceeding to shit all over a HOF coach.

You're assuming that Bidunga was angry/unhappy, and that's why he's in the portal. What makes you think this isn't just about money? You realize that every agent in the nation is encouraging his players to test the waters, right? Hence why there are 7 billion players in the portal and guys are asking for 5x their worth.

And in fact, I've heard that his relationship with the staff is okay, and this IS mostly about money. Which makes a lot more sense than the theory that he's pouting because Self gave him the role he expected, and has decided to pass up the opportunity to start and play 30+ min next year with Darryn Peterson out of spite.

KC_Connection 04-04-2025 01:49 PM

From Vernon's newsletter last week:

Quote:

I'm Hearing Flory Bidunga plans to enter the transfer portal, ending a week of speculation about the former 5-star freshman. ESPN has since confirmed the KUHearings update.

I’ve Heard KU wanted Bidunga to return, and it appears to mark a significant blow to Kansas' frontcourt plans for next season. I don’t think KU expected this when the season ended.

While Bidunga showed flashes of his elite potential during his freshman year, his playing time fluctuated. I’d Heard multiple times this year that his camp wasn’t thrilled with how he was being handled.

Most notably, Bidguna had a four-game stretch playing 25+ minutes with KJ Adams sidelined with an injury. KU went 3-1 in this period, with the lone loss coming in a double overtime collapse to Houston.

When Adams returned, Bidunga's role immediately diminished - managing just one field goal attempt against Baylor and only two against Iowa State in the games that followed.
If Flory isn't playing with KU next season, it's pretty obvious who/what the reason is.

You might be too stupid for this thread, and we literally filtered the most often used word to describe such a person to the username of another KU fan, so we don't exactly set the bar very high around here.

KU played like one of the best teams in the country in the short time that Flory was starting and playing big minutes.

It was clearly an egregious mistake to bench him for who they did and I imagine the whole team grasped that by the end. It would seem Flory's camp certainly did.

Which part is funny? You think Bidunga is an ideal fit at the 4?

I think ....... It's a waste of time trying to explain where you are wrong.

Pretty sure I said exactly that in the last thread. No way to understand if you're not watching the games.

I thought it has been pretty clear who is to blame already.

At least I can agree with KCC again. :)
