The Chiefs are considering submitting a waiver claim on Kyle Orton, a source tells NFL.com's Steve Wyche.
Although the Chiefs are only two games out of first place in the AFC West, they aren't realistic threats to win the division. But if they stick with Tyler Palko at quarterback, they might not win another game all year. The addition of Orton would be a major boost to Dwayne Bowe and the entire passing game. The Chiefs are ahead of the Bears and behind the Colts in the waiver process.

Please let the Colts pick up Orton. :grovel: He might actually put them in a position to win 4-5 games? Then S4L is back on!!!!

A thread posted 8-7-2011

A stat taken from another thread-Zero starts for Palko and Stanzi...who

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

would you like to see come in here if Cassel gets hurt? I see our lack of a veteran back up at the QB pos as a potential real dilemma if Cassel gets hurt.

We have a great running game with finally a legit passing attack from all angles and a Defense that could be ranked in the top 10 if everything clicks for us. We have a helluva a tougher schedule this yr and what you don't want to have happen is our team to be hitting on all cyclinders loaded with talent leading the division only for our starting QB to get hurt and then all you have is Palko or Stanzi?

FWIW, there is a 50/50 chance Orton gets released. Say what you will about Orton but he is smart, manages the game well and is far more accurate passer than Cassel IMO. The knock on him out here in Denver was, he was great between the 20's moving the ball up and down the field but as soon as he was in the redzone he failed. I see his so-called redzone failure as a severe lack of talent around him that you need around you in order to get that extra punch to get in the endzone. He had no talent around him after Josh's insane right 53 approach

The Denver fans, sports media and coaching staff are in such a "quandry" out here because Tebow sucks that bad. Orton is lighting it up everyday but yet Orton and the Denver FO no longer want each others services. FO mgmt wishes Tebow could at least hit a receiver in stride instead of behind on just about every pass he makes It's entertaining as hell listening to this Denver frustration out here with the fans saying to themselves, "Wow, Tebow really isn't God and actually sucks and why are we trying to trade Orton out of here??

Bottom line: Orton would be an excellent back up QB who could come in and keep moving our potent offense without ever missing a beat in case Cassel got hurt or Cassel started sucking the big one(holding on to the ball even longer or throwing more picks than usual) which is very possible.

You saw what he did to us in Denver, just sayin

Your thoughts

If the Colts actually did put in a claim for Orton.....there is no way that he would report.

Sorry if repost but heard Mike & Mike say Orton/agent came to Elway right after Cutler got injured and asked to be released.
Said Denver saved money by releasing Orton but also did it because they appreciated Orton and wanted to do him a solid.
If true it would seem it is Bears-or-bust in Orton's mind. Seems like he loves Chicago more than they love him.

So what happens in that case?Im not familiar with the process when a claimed player refuses to report.

Pretty sure he just doesn't get paid the remainder of his contract - which is only the rest of the season in Orton's case.

Then he'll be a FA in March 2012.

"Maggianos" and "Gene and Judes" I suspect.

So a player makes it clear he won't report for your team. Is there any reason at all not to claim him so another team can't benefit from his services?

Depends on if there are any costs associated with making a claim, which I think is what you are asking?

Yes which would allow the Colts to keep Houston from taking him. Although if he is going to Chi-town then there is know reason for the Colts to be concerned.

would he still count as a roster spot?

Putting a claim on him just for the draft pick would be worth it.
