WTF was Bubba thinking? Horriffic decision...

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-15-2010 06:01 PM

And let's not act like the rules officials are always consistent or accurate with their rulings.

Mark O'Meara won the 1998 British and Ernie Els won the 1994 US Open because of incorrect rules decisions.

Old Dog 08-15-2010 06:09 PM

Bubba just completely pissed down his leg didn't he?

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-15-2010 06:10 PM

Holy ****.

LMAO You have to be kidding me.

DAMNIT!

SPchief 08-15-2010 06:10 PM

this is just weird

Miles 08-15-2010 06:10 PM

Would have been pretty cool if that had dropped.

tk13 08-15-2010 06:10 PM

What a bizarre circus this has been.

Buck 08-15-2010 06:11 PM

2 millimeters to the right and that drops

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-15-2010 06:13 PM

Given that he was trying to make it, he really should have had his caddie tend the flag and pull the pin.

BWillie 08-17-2010 01:37 PM

So what the fuck is the deal w/ Corey Pavin saying that Tiger may or may not be on the Ryder Cup team, and that he is just high on his list? WTF? It's Tiger freaking Woods. He's the 2nd best player of all time, only 34 years old, and you MAY select him w/ your captains picks? What a joke. That is a slap on the face to Tiger. I don't care if he is a terrible human being or screws hookers in front of his wife, he's one of the best players of all time who is had a bad year (for him).

Corey Pavin should just shut up and go hit the ball his girlish 250 yards.

I wouldn't pick Tiger right now with my pick. Sorry. He's playing like shit right now and it'll be some time before he's back to where he was. If that's even possible.

Unfortunately, he can't keep his driver on the planet (which kills you in alternate shot), he's putting like ass, and he's only played decently in two tournaments this year.

He's also never been a tremendous Ryder Cup player, anyway. Hell, given the chemistry that Kim and Mickelson have as partners, I'm definitely giving AK one of my picks if his wrist is healthy, and given Tiger's mental problems, does he really need to be in front of a raucous Irish crowd right now?

OnTheWarpath15 08-18-2010 08:26 PM

TPC at Deere Run is one helluva track. I've been humbled.

Normally shoot in the mid/high 80's - shot 99 today. And I was actually playing pretty well.

You CANNOT miss the fairway. The rough is thick and nasty. Extremely penalizing.

Great layout, very scenic. Had a great time. I'll upload some pics when I get back in town.

tk13 08-18-2010 08:29 PM

I wouldn't pick Tiger either... but he'll probably get picked. I don't have much confidence he'd do well at the Ryder Cup. If he does get picked... I definitely wouldn't run him out there against their best guys.

Just think some guy shot 59 there a few weeks ago. I really didnt think it was that hard when I played there but I didnt play from the tips and the rough wasnt grown out. Rough makes an amazing difference

wildcat09 08-18-2010 09:33 PM

It would be tough to pick Tiger. There are some young players playing really well right now. There is a new generation of golfers poised to take the PGA by storm.

One of the Golf Discount Superstore locations here in STL is having a store closing sale - 50% off of everything in the store.

I went expecting it to be pretty picked over - and it was - but I was able to walk out with a brand new set of Taylor Made R9 Irons, Stiff KBS shafts - for $400.

So if anyone is looking for a very nice set of Ping G5 irons, let me know. Mine are officially for sale.

Is this another trick for those R9 irons? Are they going to make you take them back the next day when you get a call that they were put up for sale at the wrong price?

'Hamas' Jenkins 09-24-2010 03:12 PM

I've never been a TM guy. Part of that has to due with the fact that they churn out their equipment so frequently that they make few to no changes and destroy the resale value of their old sets.

That's the only reason I'm contemplating sticking with my Ping's and selling these.

But Christ, I can sell my G5's on Ebay for $300. Downside is that the R9's with be worth that the minute I game them, so I'd have to commit to them for the long haul.

kstater 10-02-2010 09:36 AM

If the US ends up winning the cup, it'll likely be because of that putt on 17 from Cink. Making that prayer got in Rory's head and turned a full point for Europe into a full point for the US.

Looks like we're headed to Monday for the finish now. Beautiful Wales, but not so much with the rain...

Jerm 10-03-2010 03:27 AM

We're also looking at the doomsday scenario of not even finishing on time on Monday and the Ryder Cup being decided without all the matches being done.

Apparently the forecast isn't all that great for tomorrow either.

What a disaster.

That'd probably be just fine with the Americans at this point.

Looks like we're ready for play at 1:30 GMT. Here's to some good weather.

'Hamas' Jenkins 01-23-2011 11:47 AM

So, my brother-in-law won a 7 day golf vacation via a contest he entered (yes, it's actually legit) and he's taking me to play five courses:

St Andrews (Old and New)
Prestwick
Carnoustie
and one other of our choosing from a certain list.

Will do. My wife has a DSLR that I'll bring with me. I don't know what kind of camera policy they'll have (if any). I definitely know that I'm going to have to buy some new rain gear and practice my ****ing ass off this spring. I'm hoping we can go sometime in late May before I have to teach for the Summer term. Otherwise, I may have to wait until early August.

Damn you Hamas lol...jealous now.

Getting to play the Old Course would be worth it alone...Carnoustie is awesome too. Just don't go full van de Velde on 18 lol.

What are the other courses you can choose from? Something like Troon or Turnberry would be the icing on top.

'Hamas' Jenkins 01-25-2011 01:22 AM

Here are the courses:

St. Andrews Old Course
St. Andrews New or Jubilee Course
Carnoustie Championship Course
Prestwick Old
Nairn (I guess they held the 1999 Walker Cup there and will host the 2012 Curtis Cup)
Royal Dornoch (which is rated by Golf Digest as the #3 course outside of the US). Tom Watson said it was the best links course he's ever played.

I'm just stunned.

That is a sweet set of clubs Guru, at least you'll look good out on the course.

A friend of mine plays really good golf, low 90's. Hes cheap though, real cheap. He uses his dads old set of clubs from the 70's. I mean they look bad. But he does good out there. Imagine what he'd do with quality clubs like yours.

I just bought the Callaway Diablo Edge driver for $99 on ebay... $15 shipping. I loved it when I hit it a year ago but wasn't willing to spend the money when the price was sky high. I'll re-grip it with a Tacki-mac jumbo grip when it gets here. It's a 10.5 with a stiffy. Heh! Stiffy!

Braincase 02-03-2011 04:25 PM

My oldest daughter didn't make the volleyball team this past fall, but she has two years of junior golf under her belt, so I've talked her into taking a crack at the golf team this fall as a freshman. I'll get her some lessons with the local pro at LCC. I wasn't about to drop $500.00 bucks on a set of Pings for her, but I may have found the next best thing. Ordered her a set of Ping G-15 knockoffs from Gigagolf.com. Hell, you can get a complete iron set for $120.00 if you go with stock grips and the less expensive Tru-Temper steel shafts.

I switched to the Diablo this summer (I had a Rapture before) and gained a few yards, but more importantly gained some accuracy.

Just a comment from a Ping fan (I5's in my bag)

Does your daughter really enjoy the game? If so, wouldn't that $500 set of clubs be worth the initial investment if she became good enough to earn a scholarship?

Trust me, I'm out at Alvamar enough that I often catch the KU women's team practicing. It apparently doesn't take a whole lot of skill to play for KU golf. While I'm sure there are some really good golfers on the team, there are also some girls that you wonder how they made their high school team.

I told if she gets into the running for a scholly, I'll get her a better name brand set. I don't want to drop 500 bucks if she decides to drop the game after one season. I've played with a set of Gigagolf P-3's, and they play as well as my G-5's and are better than my old G-2's.

They've got a nice deep cavity-back and the wide sole just like the G-15's.

I'll have her working with Kristen Samp over at LCC, one of the two best teaching pros in town. Kristen has played on the Duramed Futures and the LPGA tour. If we were members at Alvamar, I'd have her working with Drew Cote, the other of the two best in town.

I'm hopeful. She's a big strong athletic girl (5'8", starting power forward on her basketball team). Walking a course will be good for her legs prior to basketball season. She can already club the shit out of it, driving over 200 yards. She doesn't know how to finesse a shot, she wants to pound it as hard as she can each time.

What's in your bag this year?

Mine:

TaylorMade R9 - 9.5* - Aldila RIP 60 Stiff shaft

Taylormade V-Steel Fairway Woods - 13, 16.5 and 21*

Mizuno JPX-800 Pro Irons - 5-PW - True Temper Dynamic Gold X100 Shafts

Mine? Same clubs as last year.

Getting anxious as well. Had a couple nice days, but couldn't get out. Right now, it's just cold enough that I don't want to go. I'm hoping in the next week or so that it will warm up enough for me to get out.

I've only added a Callaway Diablo Edge Driver to my bag. I just got it and need to put a new grip on it since the standard grip is too small. Habanero stiff shaft.

Fairway 3-wood - Nike Sasquatch

Irons - Callaway Fusion +1" 2 deg. upright. 3-Lob Wedge
Putter - Zebra (bought in the '80s)

Our golf league starts the 21st. The weather has cooperated the past few years for the early weeks. I hope it continues.

Went to the course to practice this afternoon. I started working on making sure that my left foot was planted on the downswing, and letting my hips turn in the backswing rather than restricting them, as I did last year.

Just by planting that lead foot, and preventing it from spinning out on the follow through, I was able to anchor myself to the ground to the extent that I was picking up 12-15 yards of carry on my irons. I usually fly my SW 85-90, and today was flying it from 100-102. Eight iron was carrying 148-152 when it normally flies about 135.

That was some truly tremendous golf. I watched the second nine on DVR. Verplank fading was pretty predictable, but Phil was playing like he had power boost and spin options available.

The thing that portends best for Phil isn't the driving accuracy, it's the distance control on his irons, which was phenomenal over the last two days.

I was just getting ready to post this.

I think I've mentally blocked out the highest score I've ever made on a hole, but I don't think it was anywhere near 16.

I hope that teaches golfers the importance of one thing: provisionals.

The great Mike Weir finished 3rd to last in San Antonio. 5 strokes worse than a guy that posted a 16 on Thursday.

For every golf shot you want to lean slightly forward. Creat more lag, keep the 90 degrees longer, and you'll get that 8 to 145.

Here's a good drill in regards to your left foor action.

Set up like your going to hit a ball and then raise your left heel off the ground. Keeping the ball of your foot on the ground take a practice swing and on the through swing keep that heel up. You won't spin out if your weight goes to your left front foot. Take a few practice swings and then hit a few balls with the drill and see how it feels. It should make it difficult to get the clubhead past your target line and keep you from coming across the ball from outside in.

Try it.

I don't cut across the ball at all. My problem is getting stuck from the inside. The biggest problem I have is that I have a very wide swing arc, but I'm not able to float load on the downswing, which, even though I have a big turn and a quick action through the ball, limits by SS to 105. If I could load the shaft properly on the downswing, I'd bet I could add 10-12 MPH on the downswing.
