Minor leagues today. Although Duffy technically gets credited with a shutout, it is one of those goofy short minor league shutouts, so it isn't as amazing as it might seem.

Why haven't they brought Giavotella up to AAA yet? Seems like he's been ready 60 games ago.

Greinke just got hosed on a walk

and the no-hitter is now gone.
Royals will probably win the game, but I dont have much reason to watch the rest of it tonight. I'll just catch the box scores. |

The U.S. Pan-Am qualifying tournament team's 24-man roster was announced today. Six Royals prospects made the team. That's a quarter of the roster, pretty impressive. Apparently that's also a record for USA baseball. Moose, Hosmer, Duffy, Montgomery, Tim Collins and Everett Teaford. Tournament starts Oct. 1st. |
Cuba is going down this time.

After watching Pena this past week, I'm sure glad we were treated to Kendall's worthless ass most of the season.
And people wonder why many think Dayton Moore is dumb as ****. |
So it's Sept. I'm at Petco Park to see my first NL game several years. The Padres after having the wheels come off in the last 15 days are 1 game up on the visiting Giants. The first player I see as I enter the ground level is none other than Jose Guillen. I yell at him: "Hey ****face! Remember me? Yea that's right I travelled 2k miles just to heckle your ass". (security moves me away). Guillen bats 5th and when he's introduced I lay into him pretty good. "Jose! You have Albert Belle's temperment and Mario Mendoza's talent". He stares at me. I laugh heartily and say: "You don't recognize me w/o my big scorebook, eh Jose"? He strikes out. In his 2nd AB he draws a bb but not before fouling a ball off his foot. I think it gave him a concussion. The ****head. I hate that guy

You don't have Willie Bloomquist to kick around anymore:
Reds acquired INF-OF Willie Bloomquist from the Royals for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Bloomquist is batting .265/.296/.388 with three home runs and 17 RBI in 170 at-bats this season. The 32-year-old will not be eligible for the playoffs, but he's a useful utility man, capable of playing all over the diamond. http://www.rotoworld.com/Content/pla...rt=MLB&id=3181 |
Spork for $3.25.

Oh, and Brayan Pena was named AL Player of the Week.
Imagine how good he'd be if he had Kendall's grit and bat control. Way to go, Dayton and Co. Dipshits. |

Interesting...a player needs to play more than once a month to get in a groove? Whodathunkit? (Certainly not Dayton) |
I heard we got an XBox 360 for Bloomquist

Was it at least a fun game? The score sounds really shitty.

It's because we did not have Willie BOOMquist to hit third. Its his natural position.

Plus if we brought guys like Moose and Hosmer up, they couldn't play for USA baseball in the Pan Am tournament. |
With Aviles now hitting over .300, I'm wondering what you guys think about his future and specifically his future on our team. I'm a fan, personally.

Some good news. Tonight NW Arkansas won the AA Texas League championship with a 2-0 win. Will Smith (acquired for Callaspo) pitched 6.2 scoreless innings. Wasn't too much offense but Hosmer did have an RBI single for one of the two runs.

FYI - former Royals pitching prospect Dan Cortes made his major league debut for Seattle today. He was said to have reached 98 MPH as he pitched one scoreless inning (0 hits, 0 walks, 1 strikeout) for the Mariners. Dayton traded Cortes to acquire Yuniesky Betancourt.
|
Glancing at his stats, looks like he had a bit of a rough year in 2010 (Cortes that is). 196 strikouts in @182 innings, which is great, but he allowed 180 hits and 114 walks. ERA over 5. I can't remember much about him now from when he was in the system except that he had a plus fastball. I think I read somewhere he asked to go into the bullpen earlier in the summer.

I know nobody cares but Kila has raised his avg to abou .220 tonight, .300 obp. He has walked, tripled, and hit two hrs tonight. I dont know how many games are left but it would be nice if he could at least get to .240 with 10-12 hrs and build on that next year. One thing about kila is he typically struggles for a bit when he moves levels but after a while adapts and starts to rake.

I'm not giving up on Crow until I see at least two professional seasons out of him. We'll see how he comes back next year... if his command doesn't return by the first few months of next season, then I'll worry. But the guy is flat-out filthy (his stuff is on a different level than Hochevar's. Crow throws harder with similar movement, and has a much sharper, nastier slider). and came up huge in several big games in college (including clinching a trip to the Super Regional as a true freshman). A lot of people had given up on Moustakas and Hosmer at this point last year as well. I remember some saying that Moore deserved to be fired for drafting those guys... |

Hosmer, Moustakas key Team USA in win Royals farmhands come up big in victory over Cuba By Dick Kaegel / MLB.com | 10/12/10 12:37 AM ET There doesn't seem to be any stopping Team USA -- or Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas, either. The two Royals prospects figured prominently in Monday night's 4-1 victory over Cuba in the Pan American Qualifying's second round at Ponce, Puerto Rico. Moustakas belted a double to left field, driving in Team USA's two runs in the third inning. He also walked in the sixth and scored as Hosmer reached base on an error. Hosmer completed the two-run inning by scoring on a wild pitch. Hosmer's 2-for-4 game boosted his average to .394 (13-for-33). Moustakas is batting .270 (10-for-37) with eight RBIs, while Hosmer has seven RBIs. Team USA (9-0) enters the semifinals on Tuesday as the No. 1 seed. Cuba fell to 7-2. Dan Quisenberry entered Game 4 of the 1985 ALCS and promptly gave up the lead after Charlie Liebrandt had pitched a masterful 8 innings. Leibrandt opened the ninth having surrendered only four hits. But a walk to Damaso Garcia and a double by Moseby tied the game. Quisenberry entered the game and gave up a single to George Bell and a double to Al Oliver to RC field that scored Moseby and Bell, giving the Jays a 3–1 lead. The Royals did get two on and two out in the ninth, but Henke got out of the jam unscathed and emerged a winner for the second time in three games. I thought I was dead. I was in the stadium this night 25 years ago and couldn't help but think the baseball gods just hated my team. That was the last damage Al Oliver would do to the Royals. |
Any updated rankings from a reliable source of the farm systems yet?

Royals' Duffy, Team USA fall to DR
By Dick Kaegel / MLB.com | 10/13/10 1:15 AM ET Comments (0) Team USA's undefeated run in the Pan American Qualifying Tournament came to an end on Tuesday night with a 7-2 semifinal loss to the Dominican Republic in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Royals left-hander Danny Duffy started for Team USA, giving up two runs in 4 1/3 innings and taking the loss. Lefty reliever Tim Collins had his scoreless streak ended at 6 1/3 innings when he was charged with two runs in the ninth inning. The Royals' two position players combined for just one hit. Eric Hosmer was 1-for-3 with a triple and scored a run. Mike Moustakas was hitless in four at-bats as Team USA was held to six hits. Team USA, which was seeded first, fell to 9-1 and will play Venezuela in the third-place game on Wednesday. The Dominican Republic, seeded fourth, stands 7-3 and will meet Cuba, 8-2, for first place. Royals prospects give boost to Team USA
Hosmer, Moustakas driving force in Pan American Tournament By Dick Kaegel / MLB.com | 10/14/10 12:15 AM ET Royals prospects Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas provided Team USA with a pretty potent one-two punch in the Pan American Qualifying Tournament that concluded on Wednesday in Puerto Rico. Hosmer, the first baseman who played all 10 games, led the team's regulars with a .389 average and tied for the most hits, as he went 14-for-36 with seven RBIs. He also walked eight times for a .511 on-base percentage. Moustakas, in 10 games at third base, led the team with eight RBIs. He batted .244 (10-for-41) with three doubles and a home run. Hosmer had two doubles, two triples and a homer. The Royals had four left-handed pitchers on the team. Mike Montgomery was 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA in two starts and struck out 14 in 10 innings. Everett Teaford, in two starts, was 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA and 13 strikeouts in nine innings. Danny Duffy was 1-1 in his two starts, finishing with a 2.89 ERA. Reliever Tim Collins was in five games with a 2.57 ERA, scored on only in his last outing. Hosmer, Moustakas and Montgomery were named to the all-tournament team along with a fourth Team USA player, center fielder Mike Trout of the Angels. Team USA finished with a 9-1 record when Wednesday's scheduled third-place game against Venezuela was canceled because of rain. The cancellation meant the two teams finished tied for third place. The Dominican Republic, which inflicted the only loss on Team USA in the semifinals, won the championship on Wednesday night with a 5-2 victory over Cuba. Dick Kaegel is a reporter for MLB.com. Food for thought:
Looking at what Nolan Ryan has been able to do for The Rangers... does anyone other than myself think that if George Brett would have been able to buy the team the Royals could be having simular results? I mean you know someone who knows baseball and actually cares. |

An off day after Danny Jackson shut out the Jays 2-0 on a clear cool fall day at Royals stadium to pull the royals back from elimination by the Jays. The Royals scored single runs in the 1st and 2nd and Jackson was pretty much in command the entire day. This is the game where George Bell was thrown out by Lynn Jones form LF trying to advance from 1st on a single. It was a close play at 3rd and after the game Bell claimed MLB/the media didn't want a Canadian team to make the World Series. Bell was such a clown. But he was safe. It would be two days before Buddy Biancalana surprised Bob Costas and every Royals fan in existence. |
