Finishing second is clearly superior to winning the league by 2 games?

So, just give COY to every conference regular season champion then? :spock: No point in even voting.

KcMizzou 03-10-2012 09:23 PM

In short, yeah, Haith got screwed for COTY, but who gives a shit?

I doubt he does.

Yeah, when you finished second with 7 scholarship players and one of your best inside guys hurt for the season and with a new coach. And beat the conference winners and damn near beat them twice.

Did Tom Coughlin win COY last year when the NYG won the SB? They were best after it was all said and done? Just because you win the league does not mean you were the best coach.

petegz28 03-10-2012 09:25 PM

I agree, I doubt Haith gives a **** but to put the season in context, KU won the conference by 1 overtime point. Hardly a dominant performance but winner nonetheless.

We'll just ignore that KU lost like 70 percent of their scoring from last year and still came back and won the league again.

And were picked out of the gate to win the conference. Self did what was expected and barely. That to me does not make coach of the year. Coach of the Year, again imo, **** your link bullshit, should go to a coach that exceeded expectations in a large way.

That's life as a major college basketball team. Highly recruited guys stepped up thier game as they matured and playing time opened up. Shocking.

Ok then, by your logic, the runaway winner of COY should be Hoiburg. They were picked to finish 8th and finished T3(net of 5 spots). Missouri was picked to finish 4th and finished 2nd(net of 2 spots). Looks like ISU exceeded more expectations.

I could buy that easier than I can Self.

Or did more with less as I stated to him earlier. No one thought Mizzou would

1. Win the Big XII tournament

2. Be ranked in the top 5

3. Be competing for a #1 seed

4. Beat KU once and come within 1 point of sweeping them

This was all BEFORE Bowers went down. After many questioned whether Mizzou would even make the tournament.

But Haith was not COY material.

KC_Connection 03-10-2012 09:32 PM

Why does anybody care about the COY award anyway? It's even more forgettable than the POY award.

Arguments can be made for all three coaches, there is no one right answer. Heck, I could probably make an argument for Frank Martin too after losing Pullen and getting his team to the tournament with that group.
