The Royals need to get him back for next year.

The article posted above indicates they want to bring him back, possibly even for 2 more years to be a 4-5 starter as they look to make a trade or 2 of prospects for frontline starters.

Aaron Harang - San Diego - mutual option for 5 million, so I think he goes to free agency.

34 year old 6'7" righty is 12-4 with 3.92 ERA

Just to be clear, he has a 90 ERA+ this year. Last year, his ERA + was a 77.

I would not touch him with a ten foot pole.

I know Chen isn't flashy, but a team could do a lot worse at the back end of a rotation.

I liked the part of the article that quoted Yost saying people like to overlook him but he deserves respect. I like that other teams overlook him myself. Then he just beats them more often than not. Royals fans shouldn't overlook him though imo. You're right he isn't flashy just effective.

I like hearing they want to keep him around while looking for a front line guy or two.

Absolutely. And in baseball terms, keeping the dude will be cheap, so it seems like a no-brainer to me.

I'm still waiting on the Gordon extension, though. Sure would like to see this thing happen before the end of the year. Obviously, the Frenchy contract has pretty much obviated DM's claim about not wanting to handle contracts mid-season.

Get it done DM. Then package a few prospects for some good starting pitching this off season... like it sounds like he's planning.

That article got me all pumped up! It was interesting that DM indicated they were asking montgomery to work on stuff which is why his numbers aren't there.

It's probably often amazing to consider how much we as fans think we know when we really don't know whats going on at all.

If you can get King Felix for Moustakas, Montgomery, Melky, and Odorizzi/Dwyer do you do it? I think you do.

I took it that we were thinking more along the lines of minor league prospects than the guys we're trying to build around like Moustakas but of course I could be wrong. The great thing about having such a deep minor league system is we can deal some guys and not be left bare. My thinking is they really want Moustakas to be the long term 3rd baseman... of course that doesn't mean they wouldn't make a deal like that, nor am I saying they shouldn't consider it.

Dr. Johnny Fever 08-28-2011 06:19 PM

Can you guys imagine though IF WE COULD trade prospects and guys like Melky for the likes of Clayton Kershaw (as mention before) and Felix Hernandez? Good lord. They talk in the article about potentially making a couple deals for front line pitchers. We have the prospects.... I'm probably dreaming but dreaming is fun.

Vomit. Look at his splits, Petco is THE pitchers park. He's ERA is a full point higher away and 2 points last year. Just say no.

I don't know thats a major league ready top prospect, 2 of the best pitcher prospects in a great system and a solid major league outfielder. Look at the Ubaldo deal, I think that would be close.
