Rival GM's are not going to assume that the Royals are haunted.

That's not the question. By himself of course he's worth it. Combining it with the future value of Myers and Odorizzi makes it more complicated. We traded prospects for Shields plus the contract. I did the hypothetical WAR calls earlier. James has to earn 6.9WAR to break even on the cash which he should do. The question is what the prospects earn for Tampa.

It's apples to apples. If they flop for Tampa we win, if they don't we lose. But everyone already knows that.

Actually he's not. Read the details. $21m is his base salary. His options (which we will exercise) add another $2.5m. There was a trade bonus of $0.75m that we surely paid. Then there's another $6m of performance incentives spread across his contract for innings, starts, Cy voting, etc. He will get some if not many of those.

So in truth it's $24.25m before he earns any incentives.

I was only mentioning base salary not options or incentives.

I don't think we're haunted, I just question our ability to properly develop guys. I could see other teams becoming hesitant to pay a big price for prospects out of KC's system if they essentially have to tack on years to redevelop them.

We will be paying him much more than his base pay. Tampa already picked up his 2013 contract in October which was the fully loaded rate with the option for 10.25. So that is really his pay on our books. He's off to another great start so we will (happily) pay the incentives.

Is there a reason the Royals can NOT bring up Christian Colon to play 2nd ?

"Over his last 10 games, Colon is batting .333 (12 for 36) with a triple, two homers, five walks and six RBIs. He is the Royals 13th-ranked prospect according to Baseball America."

Because it's only 10 games, and he was horrendous before that. Let's wait and see if he can sustain this.

Colon? Yeah, no thanks. He's sub-level to Elliott Johnson right now.

Sample size.

He needs to keep that up for a at least 2-3 more weeks before you start to take it seriously. He's been very solid in May (.783 OPS, .281/.354/.439) but needs to sustain it.

Earlier this week we were planning on going to at least one of these Angels games this weekend. But with how we have been playing combined with how the Angels are killing the ball, I don't intend on going out there at all. I wonder how many people are thinking the same thing.

duncan_idaho 05-23-2013 07:43 AM

I am crushed after last night's game. Taking tonight off from waching and seeing how I feel on Friday.

Just depressing.

People know they're a fraud. That's why people weren't jumping on th bandwagon after the hot start. I mean in 2009 we started 18-11 and went 47-86 the rest of the way. (With the freankin CY Young winner no less).

Until this team wins fans are right to doubt them.

Glad it finally hit you. The team was shit from the first day it took the field.

I'm not sure if its the holiday weekend or shit show on the field of late, but it looks like ticket prices on the secondary market are finally starting to come down. I may grab some tix on craigslist for a game if they're cheap enough.
