A North Carolina middle school teacher was charged with rape Monday after a former student came forward and confessed the alleged sexual relationship that happened eight years ago.

Lee Annette Williams, 50, a teacher at Ledford Middle School, was arrested after a former student, who is also a close family friend, came forward about the alleged sex assault, FOX8 reported. Officials opened an investigation in July and obtained enough evidence to arrest Williams.

The student was 14 years old and attended Ledford Middle School when the alleged abuse occurred sometime between August and October 2009. All the incidents happened off of school grounds.

Williams was charged with statutory rape, statutory sex offenses and taking indecent liberties with a child. She posted $50,000 bond and is banned from contacting anyone under 18 years old, the victim or his family.

Davidson County School officials said in a statement to FOX8 they are "aware of the charges" against Williams and will be launching an investigation, but did not say she was suspended.

"As more information becomes available to us, we will take the appropriate measures. As this involves a confidential personnel matter, we have no further information to share at this time," the school district said in a statement.

The age of consent in North Carolina is 16 years old.

A teacher gave birth to her pupil's child after allegedly grooming him from the age of 14.

Laura Lynn Cross, 36, is said to have had a three-year sexual relationship with the boy and posed as his "mentor" so he could move into her home.

The pupil's father said he raised concerns with authorities about the pair being inappropriately close in 2012, but no action was taken.

Ms Cross resigned from her post as an English teacher at Buchtel High School in Akron, Ohio, in January 2015.

She initially invited him to go swimming in her pool before he later began staying the night.

Ms Cross later convinced the pupil's mother to let her son move into her house in a court-approved "partial parental custody" arrangement.

The teacher said it would allow her to "mentor" her the boy.

She was arrested earlier this month after police learned she had given birth to the boy's baby in 2015.

The teenager's father contacted officers after being tipped off about the child. But he criticised the school and Tallmadge Police for failing to take action earlier.

"It was a straight failure from the system. From the school and the police, definitely," he told local TV channel News 5 Cleveland.

"Everbody I talked to I was frank with that my son was having sexual relationships with this woman, with a teacher.

"She had a hold on my son and [the police] told me he's not co-operating with us so we no can do nothing with it."

He added: "She's a schoolteacher. To get aroused by a child basically you have to be a sick individual."

Ms Cross has been charged with three counts of sexual abuse alleged to have taken place between August 1, 2013, and September 6, 2016.

A former middle school gym teacher was arrested Monday for a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Monday.

Shawnetta D. Reece, 40, of Blairsville, was sexually involved with the student in 2013, the agency said in a news release.

Reece was arrested after the Union County Sheriff’s Office received information on the alleged relationship, and asked the GBI to assist with the investigation.



“The student was moving from the 8th grade into the 9th grade during this time,” the news release stated. “As a result of the investigation, Reece has been arrested for child molestation and sexual assault by persons with supervisory or disciplinary authority.”

Officials said once the investigation is completed, the case will be presented to the Enotah Judicial Circuit district attorney for prosecution.

A female teacher at an elite Los Angeles private school has been accused of having sex with a 16-year-old student, it was learned Sunday.

Aimee Palmitessa, 45, a teacher at the Brentwood School, was arrested Friday, Los Angeles Police spokesman Tony Im told Fox News.

She was charged with statutory rape -- unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, Im said.

The alleged victim is a 16-year-old student at the Brentwood School, The Los Angeles Times reported Sunday.

Palmitessa teaches biology at the private school, one of LA’s most expensive schools, the paper reported. She has a Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology and previously taught at Penn State Abington.

Palmitessa is being held in lieu of $230,000 bail, according to the website of the LA Sheriff’s Office.

Brentwood School officials were shocked and distressed over news of the arrest, the head of the school Mike Riera said.

“On Friday afternoon, the Los Angeles Police Department informed Brentwood School that Upper School teacher, Dr. Aimee Palmitessa, had been arrested on suspicion of inappropriate relations with a student and is expected to face charges,” Riera said in a statement posted on the school’s website Sunday afternoon.

“The LAPD did not share additional information with us, such as the nature of the inappropriate relationship or the identity of the minor student,” he said.

Palmitessa was placed on administrative leave. School begins Aug. 28.

“As always, our primary concern is the safety, health and well-being of our students,” Rierra said. “To that end, we will do everything we can to cooperate with the official police investigation.”

The Daily Mail reported trying to contact Palmitessa. The paper reported speaking to the woman’s partner, Vicente Bruzzese, who said “I know nothing about this. I have no comment.”

The school is located in one of LA’s ritziest neighborhoods, the paper reported.

Students include the son of Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart and Reese Witherspoon's daughter Ava, 17, according to the Daily Mail, which first reported Palmitessa’s arrest.

Famous alumni include Patrick Schwarzenegger, 23, whose parents are former California governor Arnold, 70, and his ex-wife Maria Shriver, 61, and Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine, 38.

Also, comedian Jonah Hill, 33, "Boy Meets World" actor Ben Savage, 36, and socialite Talita von Fürstenberg, 18, attended the school, according to the paper.
