I'm hoping for a discussion on suspension. I am working on a frame off nut and bolt resto on a 67 impala. But I cant seem to make a decision on suspension.
I previously built this with off the rack headers in the late 80s. Of course I had no money in HS and now I am going back through everything. The old headers are beat flat from dragging on everything which was my biggest irritant for my car. Now I cant decide on upgraded stock suspension or to go air ride. I know with a better header and exhaust set up I can still be low but not bottom out as much but the convenience of hitting a button and inceasing ride height would be great. The car will be a weekend driver approximately 400hp but I fo want it to handle decently which is a challenge for this boat. My other consideration is cost. I dont want to put soo much into some areas that I have to skimp on others ie. Drive train or paint/interoir. Thoughts anyone? |
So because you put junk headers on it you want to mod the suspension? Much cheaper to fix the header issue. And air ride, it’s all fun and games until you blow an air line in a parking lot 40 miles from home. It looks cool in pictures but sucks in real life, similar to implants.

Yeah, I've never known anyone with an air ride (OEM or aftermarket) that didn't have trouble with them. The nominal gains don't seem worth the maintenance issues.
