What's kinda got lost, with all the focus on Ehinger, is that LDT looks like a COMPLETELY different player so far.

Again, Aaron Donald is a monster but Ehinger needs to grow up in a hurry.

Donald beat him more with speed though, with Ehinger being on his heels some after lunging. Donald is just really good. Not many guards in the league block that guy.

I just don't think it's the issue it's being made to be. In his 2nd preseason game as a pro he went up against the best DT in the league.

Eh, he looks better that's for sure, but he still had a few iffy plays against the rams.

They weren't straight blow ups and he ended up getting it done, which is a big improvement

Look at them pick this up. I haven't seen the chiefs ol do that in a damn decade.

I think you're underestimating how bad he was last year.

:hmmm: Couldn't you have applied this logic somewhere else?

:)

LDT gets into trouble when reaches instead of moving his feet

Who?

I hope you're not referring to the defense, going up against the fire Kenny Britt and case keenum

Nelson going up against Doug Baldwin.

Not a rookie, but his first "live" snaps at nickel.

I don't know that it's the problem were making it out to be

Aside from his measurables/athleticism checking most boxes, this is why he has high potential:

Is technique taught in the NFL?

Richburg: There isn't much teaching going on at all. It's kind of sink or swim. That's why I am here.

Warmack: What is good technique? Even if you have coaches who want to implement the techniques, it's not the right way. You do the same thing 1,000 times and it's wrong. Then you get in the game and they want me to block an All-Pro three-technique and you've been doing the same thing that's wrong since April. And it's October, and you get torn out the frame (on film). It's your fault. Not his fault. It's our fault.

Technique and football IQ are the hardest to find or teach in the NFL today. Ehinger has very good technique and football IQ. He can read blitzes and see twists/stunts and that's something we haven't seen from a G in a long time.

Ehinger needs one offseason to get stronger and he'll be an above average G IMO.

Yep, that kind of awareness is why Reid wants to give the kid first dibs IMO

Very good candidate for an in-season extension.

I think that's what sold the staff on Morse.

Kid was smart as hell right out of the box. It made him a huge asset early on.

I suspect they think they'll get a similar outcome from Ehinger.

Schwartz is probably the premier technician at T in the league. Morse is obviously very smart. LDT has shown a very strong ability to learn on the fly.

Hell, Fisher may be the 'dumbest' OL on the starting line at this point. If they can keep this unit together for 3-5 years, they're going to see a lot of things that most lines simply don't diagnose. It is a very very smart unit.

We got so spoiled with our Oline during the Marty and Vermeil years. We want Ehinger to step in and instantly be Will Shields. I know that Shields started from day 1 too. I wasn't a fan yet then, but I bet he struggled a bit early on too and people were wanting to wait before letting him start. I guess we need to just be patient with him and let him grow.
