Yeah, the draft system leaves a lot to be desired. The draft board and auto pick features are pretty rudimentary, and it leaves you to feel like you need to babysit it to get the players you really want.

I left the internet for 8 hours and came back to find all my first round picks made. Luckily, I set a big board, but was still out of options when I went to check on it. If I hadn't put so many people in, I would have ended up with the same kind of shit sandwich.

As it is, however, I got DJ Hayden and Eric Reid in League 2 in an already stacked defensive backfield. In the Sandbox, a solid dime package works wonders.
In this league, I ended up with Shariff Floyd on a team that retires two DTs this year.
So, I got lucky as all get out this time, but I'd like to see a more equitable solution to the drafts.

I was panicking a little bit.

I was at the Mizzou game and had just enough service to watch Ogletree go and he was really my guy. That was my long-term replacement at Will for Burnett.

I also saw the Quinn for Lichtensteiger trade went through so I was down a G.

I had planned on going Elam to replace Pollard, but changed my mind after the Quinn deal. Unfortunately, my phone wasn't letting me move my draft queue and you can't draft straight from the queue, so I had to remove Elam from my queue to ensure Long would get picked (he was my #2 choice at the time). Unfortunately, my phone was hitching so both Elam and Quinn came out of the queue and I was left with my 3 guy. Of course, 3G went out at memorial stadium at that exact point.

I spent 1/2 an hour wandering around that damn stadium until I found a spot where I could get enough service to get Long drafted.

And while I hate taking a G in the first, I really really like Long. That guy's a Mathis level talent with a decade in front of him. With Irvin likely moving to Sam backer, I've essentially replaced my Sam with Irvin, Irvin with Quinn and Lichtensteiger with Long. I think that makes me a better overall team across the board.

I was sweating hoping Ogletree would get to me.

So you still have Lichtenseiger and you don't have Quinn. If you want to trade Long for Elam I can do that (in fact I would prefer it). Sorry I should not have undone that trade.

As Day One of the draft comes to an end, Duluth has done little in terms of short-term needs. The team added QB E.J. Manuel, but unless he shows a lot in training camp he'll likely ride the bench and learn from Phillip Rivers.

The club traded down in the second round, picking up an additional third-round and seventh -round pick while surrendering a fifth. Duluth will have three picks out of nine beginning with Pick 47, and that is when the faithful fan base will come alive.

Fort Wayne picked up Alec Ogletree to replace Urlacher in the middle, Cordarelle Patterson to giveBrees another playmaker, and picked up a high risk/high reward player in Tyrann Mathieu to add another playmaker to the defensive side of the ball. Overall I think its a pretty good draft.

This software glitch goes back more than 15 picks. I think I think we are going have to throw either Travis Frederick or Chance Warmack into free agency. I'm sure both players would have been taken by now.

When my team got the two for one pick I had my draft board set and locked for auto-pick, if that helps.

I had an autopick today and I only got one player. So it is inconsistent in its behavior, which makes it harder to understand why and when it is doing that.

Did anyone just see what Tyrann Mathieu just did? Hopefully that translates to Sandbox.

Just to confirm, it looks like League 2 is drafting and League 1 isn't. Is that what others are seeing? Assuming it's related to the software glitch.

I'm using the overnight mode to "stop" the draft. It allows people to manually draft, starts the clock on the next person, but doesn't automatically advance things once the clock expires. So both drafts are in the same status, it just so happens someone made a recent manual pick in League 2.

The software glitch is occasionally letting someone get two players with one pick. I'm 80% certain it is being caused by two users refreshing the draft page at very close to the same time. The first user starts the draft updating process and if it is time for an autopick that process gets started. Before all that finishes, another updating process gets started and and notices it is time for an autopick and repeats the whole process. So basically once an update starts, I need to lock that whole draft down and not let any other changes to that draft until the first process finishes. Meanwhile I want the second request to come through after the first request. So I need to put the second request into some kind of holding pattern until the first process clears.

All this might take an hour or two.


BTW, I have the 49er Packer game on and all I can say is Kaepernick is really, really good.

Right now the league roster is your best bet. Sort by position, then by contract and it gives a pretty good list. Free agency is a couple weeks away. I need to do some coding and we are still waiting for the player list from one of our data suppliers.

I imagine I will have a definitive list of all players that will be available on the free agent page, organized by the week you can start bidding on them. Haven't really thought about the best way to do the interface yet.

Duluth had a busy day on Day Two of the draft. Having traded down earlier, Duluth held the 47th, 50th, and 55th picks. The first two picks filled secondary holes caused by the retirements of CB Antoine Winfield and FS Ronde Barber, as the team drafted CB Dwayne Gratz and FS TJ McDonald. With the 55th pick the team added some serious beef in the middle with DT John Jenkins, who will join the Williams Wall of Kevin and Kyle.

I like the TJ McDonald pick. Good value there.

I want to voice my frustration with yesterday, but will wait until my typed responses are devoid of curse words.

Topeka has been quiet to the media, but their activity is still very evident. Picking up Tavon Austin with the 9th overall pick they solidified their return game and bolstered the receiving corp for Russel Wilson to utilize. With a void at strong safety as Babineaux seems to be on his way out, they picked up Jonathan Cyprien with the 33rd pick. With zen-like premonition, they selected Jordan Mills to play right tackle JUST in case Bryan Baluga tears his MCL in a preseason scrimmage and has to be placed on the DL. And with their most recent pick, the 66th overall, they pick up Bennie Logan to help at nose, as David Carter appears to be on the way out the door.

Clearwater's draft hasn't been sexy, but it's been a nice little 'foundation' draft.

Kyle Long will be the best interior lineman from this class and one of the best Gs in football, IMO. The kid is legit and my interior line needed depth if not an outright upgrade. Starting Robert Turner (a center) and Lance Louis (unemployed) at RG last season couldn't have done me any favors.

Margus Hunt is a freak of nature. I obviously wasn't going to get Jordan or Ansah and Hunt is an otherwordly specimen to fill in at DE. He's probably not going to be an immediate contributor, but he's as close to JPP as there is right now. When Michael Johnson leaves as FA next year, I expect Hunt to step in and really make some noise.

I drafted DJ Swearinger primarily to just injure opposing TEs. He's going to be a situational knee-diver this season. But in time, when Danieal Manning and Ed Reed realize they're old, he's going to step in at safety and likely provide a much saner SS option than Pollard.

CD - I traded for Margus Hunt and now it's saying I have to sign him to a regular priced deal (it's not putting him on the rookie draft scale). I actually doubt it will even let me sign him; it's treating him like a guy that was already on my team and I've used my 2 'pre-FA' player contracts.

I presume we can fix that; draft day trades happen all the time and the rookie scale remains in place.
