it wasn't over 200 or 300 like Alabama and Colorado. I think UAB got a pass because their RPI was 31.

That's got to be the message this committee is sending: schedule people in November and December, or you are toast. Scheduling people doesn't get you in, but if you don't play anyone until the conference schedule, they will punish you.

Not even close.

There isn't a single player on this team who would start for that 2002 squad. Not one.

Arthur Johnson, Ricky Paulding, Kareem Rush, Clarence Gilbert and Wesley Stokes.

That team would have annihilated the Big XII this year.

Not to mention Justin Gage and Travon Bryant.

Man I miss that team

It's stupid though, because they didn't even play any of those teams close. In fact, they only played 3 noncon team that's even in the tourney, one being VCU.

Michigan State is another good example. People were crossing their fingers, but as a 10 seed they weren't close to being out.

This year Michigan State lined up a hilariously hard schedule, won only a couple of those tough non-con games, and then hoped the committee would like it. The Spartans absolutely nailed it.

ChiefsCountry 03-13-2011 05:39 PM

UAB also won Conference USA regular season title.

I'm not all that upset about UAB, good RPI, won their conference, fine.

I'm puzzled about VCU.

tk13 03-13-2011 05:49 PM

I do wonder how much of the weird seeding had to do with 11 Big east teams. They had to probably do a lot more thinking than usual to try to separate them all.

Titty Meat 03-13-2011 05:54 PM

Why is everyone pissed Colorado didn't make it but Michigan State did? Colorado has 4 more losses and has beaten 2 less tournament teams than Michigan State.

'Hamas' Jenkins 03-13-2011 05:58 PM

Gottlieb likes this gutless, heartless collection of scumbags to beat Cincy.

tk13 03-13-2011 05:58 PM

LMAO Doug Gottlieb hoping the game between Temple and Penn State will be on Tru TV because it's going to be ugly. All Pennsylvania matchup there too.

The big 12 is the 3rd-toughest conference, and Colorado did great. 4 wins against top-25 RPI teams, Michigan State only has 2 of those even though they played top-25 teams 10 times.

Michigan State loaded up on a tough schedule and didn't look that good this year. Its not a good idea to play a cupcake non-conference schedule, but in prior years you could overcome that if you do really well in a tough conference.

The committee basically said "not anymore". If you play an easy non-con schedule, you are apparently dead in the water.

tk13 03-13-2011 06:08 PM

Colorado's schedule is pretty rough. Especially nowadays where teams are playing 30+ games and the non-conf is now half your schedule. You could probably make a case their non-conference was worse than some of the low-major conference schedules.

I'm having this debate right now. The Big 10 is better this year than the Big 12 is it not?

Uh, VCU and UAB are the teams in the spotlight, at least in this thread, on ESPN and on CBS.
