Did we seriously think he had trade value? How come everyone else in the world knew we needed to non-tender him?

Because no organization clings more stubbornly to the "scout's view" of a player than the Royals. It's painfully obvious. Look at the track record.

Hochevar and Davies are the best examples, but they are far from the only ones. Jeff Francoeur last season is another great example.

Luke Hochevar passes the eye test with flying colors. If you watch him throw, you can see what SHOULD be there.

But that's a good thing... it's the Royals' only hope of moving him, that someone buys into the eye test at this point.

So the Tigers are reportedly shopping Porcello for bullpen arms and high-upside prospects.

The apparent interest in Rick Porcello is mystifying to me. Why does anyone is baseball want this guy?

He's 25, is an extreme contact/luck pitcher, and has never shown any signs of being a strikeout pitcher at all. His already-atrocious K rate is likely to drop as he gets older, too - just like every other pitcher as he ages.

I realize his FIP number looks slightly better (4.26 vs. 4.55 ERA), but the guy has enough experience now to believe he's someone who underperforms his metrics, just like Hochevar.

I'd say yes to Porcello in a heartbeat.

We have 4 solid starters right now and Duffy and Paulino coming back at the end of the year. We won't be adding any more starting pitching.

and even if we were looking, Detroit sure as hell wouldn't trade him to us, unless they believe he's terrible and could give us some losses.

I could understand how they'd believe he's terrible. As he is...

Just dropped a few hundred bucks to see 3 Royals Spring training games... Rangers, D-backs and Dodgers. Can't wait!
