I suspect they think they'll get a similar outcome from Ehinger.

Schwartz is probably the premier technician at T in the league. Morse is obviously very smart. LDT has shown a very strong ability to learn on the fly.

Hell, Fisher may be the 'dumbest' OL on the starting line at this point. If they can keep this unit together for 3-5 years, they're going to see a lot of things that most lines simply don't diagnose. It is a very very smart unit.

That's racist.

I wasn't a fan yet then, but I bet he struggled a bit early on too and people were wanting to wait before letting him start. I guess we need to just be patient with him and let him grow.

Marty? His line was constantly shuffling and could never run block well. Vermeil had an amazing offensive line from 2002-2004 but before and after, it was just above average.

No one's expecting Ehinger to be Shields. That's ludicrous. But he's going to struggle all year with his lack of strength and the fact that like Fisher, he played against a lower tier of college players in the AAC.

He'll be greatly improved next year but he's going to struggle early and often this season. There's just no way around it.

I almost put 'trigger warning' in the post but figured someone would bite on their own.

Marty had some decent lines. Particularly towards the end. I believe that Vermeil only added Road and that pushed Tait to RT. Tait was a good LT. Shields was always there. Tait and Riley were our bookend tackles for a while. Grunny was the center. Dave Szott (sp?) was with Marty. Alt was pretty good until he got too old and Jenkins was a disaster, but for the most part, Marty had good Olines

are you on the Ross Travis 'terror train?'

{shrug}

I think he'll make the team over Shags and be a competent developmental #3 TE.

I don't think that qualifies as 'terror train' enthusiasm, no.

Dude, just no.

Ricky Siglar, Irv Eatman, Victor Riley, etc. and so on did not comprise a "good" offensive line. They were fine at pass blocking but shitty at run blocking (outside of Shields, of course).

Dave Szott may be the most overrated Chiefs offensive lineman, ever. He was a 7th rounder and play well on occasion but who can forget his holding penalty in Miami, forcing a 32 yard kick to become a 42 yard kick that Nick missed, therefore losing in the playoffs?

Also, Victor Riley was a nut and was allowed to leave after 4 seasons, as was Tait.

Hindsight is 50/50.

With the lack of premiere tight ends in the league, O'Shaughnessy will be claimed quickly. I'm hoping that the Chiefs can get something for him and guys like DAT and Davis, even if it's 6th or 7th rounders that can be packaged to move up in the draft.

I think Parker ends up back on the PS, unless they've lost all faith in him.

I was thinking that Tait was pretty good, but got moved to RT when we got Roaf. The Roaf trade I didn't think was a slam on Tait, but rather, if you have a HOF talent available, you take it, and Tait lost out because of that, then left to be a LT, the more premier position. Not because he wasn't any good. I don't remember why Riley left. And I always thought Szott was solid. Maybe my hindsight sucks. It's been long time. But I remember everyone raving about Grunhard, Szott, and Shields being so good, so I don't know why you say he's overrated.

Simply Red 08-24-2016 05:14 PM

Ross Travis is an Ox and will eat teams' children this season. I just have a feeling! I think he'll be really good!

Simply Red 08-24-2016 05:15 PM

@ least in certain situations.

Riley drove his car into his living room while his wife and kids were sitting in there. He was a nutjob.

Tait left because he hated Carl and the Bears put a "Poison Pill" in his contract.

Anyway, the current lineup has a chance to be as good as the 2001/2005 offensive line, which were above average. If Reid can milk that out of them this season, the sky's the limit since the bookends are locked up for 5 years, Ehinger's a rookie and Morse & LDT should be easy to extend.

Trezelle Jenkins. *shudder*

Gunther drafted Tait and Riley was with Marty only one year.

jjchieffan 08-25-2016 11:44 AM

I guess you're right Dane. Marty was always struggling to get good tackles after Alt retired. It was just the Vermeil years that had a dominant line. It's been long enough ago that it's all running together a bit.

LMAO

This will never get old.

Also, Shrink guaranteed that Mike Williams would be a starter.

Oops again.
