Jaime Arana del Angel helped his friend by burying the murder weapon and leading him out of town on Interstate 70, showing him the way to Las Vegas and California.

But his assistance had "extraordinary, almost mind-boggling" repercussions, said prosecutor Bruce Levin.

It cost prosecutors the chance to try Gomez-Garcia for first-degree murder and seek the death penalty for the murder of Denver police officer Donnie Young. Ultimately Gomez-Garcia went to Mexico and couldn't be extradited until prosecutors agreed to try him on a lesser charge of second-degree murder.

"Because of this, Mr. Gomez-Garcia escapes, in my opinion, true justice," Levin said.
Young's widow, Kelly Young, seconded his words.

"If he had been caught here, then definitely the death penalty would be what he deserved," Kelly Young said.

."

That makes my blood boil.

Boy I hope del Angel and Gomez-Garcia get what they have coming to them to the full extent of the law.

Unfortunatly they will probably be hailed as heros by fellow inmates

God don't tell me that. Is there a way to let it leak that they are both NAMBLA members?

As far as Angel and Gomez-Garcia, I'm right there with you. Drawing and Quartering might be appropriate...for a start. Either that, or this old chestnut:

Take 'em out to a wood shack with a wood table fixed to the floor. Nail their "members" to the table. Hand them a spoon. Go outside and set the shack on fire.

Give them a choice.

If they make the wrong one, wait outside with a shotgun. :D

Sounds o.k. to me. The minute you let a cop killer live is the minute law and order takes a black eye.

Yes indeed. I've got a few friends who are part of that thin blue line, and I'm damn glad they are there. In large part, they are the difference between civilization and the "jungle".

While some sure as hell don't deserve to wear the badge or the robe, a cop, like a judge, is in large part the law incarnate. Let a killing of one go by, and you've just moved a step closer to anarchy.
