I doubt that GB is going to get these guys to technically hit any better, but I guarantee he will get their attention with his direct nature - he'll call these guys out when necessary.

Brett may not be a good hitting coach but if just sends the message that Yost can't seem too then it pays off.

That's not what he meant. He meant that if one guy comes up and homers, sometimes it can kill an even bigger rally because everybody behind him starts swinging from their heels for the fences. The important thing he said was "do what you are capable of doing. If you single, the guy behind you will double." The surest way to not hit a homer is to try to hit a homer. He just wants everybody to be selective, drive the ball, and relax. There's a lot of common sense wisdom in that.

Homers can kill rallies is what someone says when he cannot say that the lineup is ****ing short on talent.

He can see what I have been saying the last couple weeks...these guys are swinging for the fences too much.

As he said it .."quit trying to hit a 3-run homerun when there is nobody on"

Prison Bitch 05-30-2013 04:10 PM

I believe it was Muser who said sometimes a double can rattle a pitcher more because the pitcher had to now worry about the runner. I can't be sure since there have been so many laughably absurd statements from this org

Demonpenz 05-30-2013 04:10 PM

homeruns are how you complete a rally. Of course it is over after it is completed.

Brett's talking about the idea of the home run, meaning that if one guy hits one, then the next guy starts thinking long ball and that's not really a good approach. See: Jeff Francouer.

I disagree that Brett may not have a lot to offer technically; as a Charley Lau disciple, he had a very, very efficient swing and general approach. He'll pass that concept on, I would think. I remember him saying once that if he hit a homer, it was on accident. His approach was to hit the ball hard wherever it was pitched.

I think it's a good idea, and he might be just the guy to get these guys (Hosmer, Moose) to take a better approach to their swings and at-bats in general.
