KU is going to rip A&M tomorrow night and let's be honest it's going to take a lot of luck to walk out of Lawrence with a win. I don't see that happening. It could but I wouldn't bet on it. Thing is KU will be up 2 games on us come Sunday. That is unless we pull out a win in Lawrence for the first time in forever.

I suppose we should just cancel the rest of the season then...no reason to go to Lawrence.......

Saturday's game is going to be incredibly tough...but giving up the whole season because of one loss is just asinine.

It is going to take a perfect storm to beat KU at their house. Hope we can do it but if they are smart and pound it down low we don't have an answer for it.

Unfortunately I am not going to get to watch it. Heading out for vacation. When we booked who would have thought this game would have had so much riding on it?

Yeah he did. Though I thought on a couple they were pretty ticky-tack calls that weren't called consistently on either side all game.

Since I stopped in though, I did feel bad for English on the T call. The damn ball just bounced wrong on him. It was one they HAD to call, but there wasn't any intent to show up the Ref IMO

O.city 02-21-2012 09:14 PM

MU just didn't shoot it very well tonight. I was looking around on ESPN.

They were 8-28 from the 3 point line and shot 38 percent from the field. KSU is a really good defensive team but MU missed some open shots that they normally make.

As frustrating as some of the calls were, this pretty much sums it up. Mizzou went through long stretches where they could not hit the broad side of the barn, and KSU had one of their better shooting nights all year. A bad combination for sure.

O.city 02-21-2012 09:40 PM

I thought it was a pretty good officiated game. You are gonna have calls go both ways in a game like that.

KSU is really good defensively. They mucked it up against KU the same way, KU just made some shots.

MU missed shots that normally they likely make. Usually that doesn't happen at home but it did. MU needs to move on and just play Saturday.

They just try to throw it at the basket and box out in hopes of getting second chance points off rebounds. They would look terrible on offense against any other team in the Big 12. And despite KSU's awful offense and getting some absolutely ridiculous calls (7-10 point swing at minimum), you guys still almost gave the guy away with Tyshawn pissing down his leg.

KSU didn't look so terrible today, did they?

That, of course, is the difference that defense can make.

petegz28 02-21-2012 09:51 PM

The K-State loss was Missouri's first home defeat of the season and just the fourth career loss at Mizzou Arena for the Tigers' 5-man senior class. It also kept Missouri from the best start in school history. The previous two Missouri teams to start 25-2, in 1990 and 1994 under coach Norm Stewart, also lost.

You beat me to that post. The Qatz are not a bad shooting team. They hit a stretch where they struggled just holding onto the ball. And I really think it just shook the entire team. Even Rodney was struggling. Frank kind of shelled up and decided if they were going to lose it would be lose while playing hard nose defense, until the shots came back.

But a big road win like the one Saturday at BU can sustain a team for a few games.

But in this case, I think the Cats just present matchup problems for MU and Frank exploited the shit out of them.

DJ's left nut 02-21-2012 10:10 PM

Well, we earned that ass-kicking.

If you show up to a sold-out arena and that's the best defensive intensity you can muster for the first 25 minutes, you deserve to get run out of your own barn. And if the extent of your offensive strategy for the last 8 minutes of the game is to start launching 3s regardless of merit...well that's not likely to help you much either.

In all honesty, if this was the game they had planned for Saturday, they needed this loss. If they play like that against Kansas they'll lose by 30. That was an effort loss, IMO and was pretty much completely unacceptable for a team that had designs on a 1-seed and a conference title. Yeah, K-State's a nice defensive team, but 68 points should be enough to beat them.

Mizzou didn't play with any urgency until they got to the point that they had zero margin for error. Their lackluster effort through the first 25 made it impossible for them to weather the storm at the end when the shots weren't falling.

The entire 40 minutes matter, kids. Try to remember that on Saturday.

mikeyis4dcats. 02-21-2012 10:13 PM

sold out? where was everyone?

Pitt Gorilla 02-21-2012 10:14 PM

KU can also make a lot of offenses look bad. Their defense is one of the best in the country. It was wrong to say that KSU was regressing or that they couldn't score. KSU's strength may be defense, but they're not abysmal offensively.

Agreed.

Mizzou's defense took K-State's normal game and made them look like 80 pt scorers. Against a good defense, they'd have still been in the mid-60s, though.

The games they were playing during that stretch of futility were games where they wouldn't have managed 60 even against a JuCo lineup.

KcMizzou 02-21-2012 10:41 PM

They played all right in the game before it at UT (lost by 10, I believe, but it was very close late and they had control of the game throughout). When they lost to OU at home (can't remember when that was), though, that was bad.

eazyb81 02-22-2012 06:31 AM

Shitty game but the Ecokats have our number. They basically focus intensely on all our weak points. Just have to tip your hat, move on, and hope we don't run into a team built like them in the tourney.

This obviously hurts our chance at winning the league outright but I still think we have a decent chance in the Phraud. Even if we lose that one too, we should still be a 2 seed - hopefully in the St. Louis region.

We are 25-3 and ranked #3 in the nation (at least for now). Hard for me to get too down about one loss.

we never lead past 8:25 left in the game and were never closer than 4 after 6:25 left. We shot TERRIBLE the entire second half. That's not controlling the game.

Your heading out west. KU will secure the #1 seed in the St. Louis bracket.

While I think Missouri is a good team, I think rely too much on the 3 pt shot. It didn't fall late in the 2nd half (like the KU game) and KSU grinded out the win.

Maybe... it might not matter what KU does if MSU wins out. MSU would probably get the #1 in St. Louis, and even if KU wins out, they would get the #1 in Phoenix. In that case, I'd rather see Duke and MSU win out and take the 1s, and KU take the #2 in St. Louis.

What a choke job.

I don't think Mizzou will get out of the Sweet 16 if they hit any team that is taller than them.

Depressing loss. Good season, but other teams are catching up to them. KU will kill them at AFH, and I can see Mizzou losing their first round game in the Big 12 Tourney too.

Not a good time of year to have peaked and downslide. Very disappointed in the effort last night. The polls should drop them to around #8 in the rankings after getting swept by a mediocre KSU team that got swept by Oklahoma.

I'm pretty pissed off today, to say the least.

“I’ve never won there, so I can’t say it’s my favorite (place),” said English, who followed by saying he appreciates the atmosphere of Kansas’ 56-year old home. “You feel the hatred walking in there.”

English continued by relaying a story from last season that hammered that point home.

“We were in the tunnel, and you’ve got to walk by their fans,” English began. “A guy (who) was about 110 years old had an old Kansas shirt on, and he looked at me and Marcus (Denmon) and said ‘Missou-rah, you’re gonna burn, just like you burnt down our town!’ ”

English, a Baltimore native, remembered Denmon’s comeback with a chuckle.

“Marcus was like ‘Yo, he’s from Baltimore,’ ” English said.
